- Happy new year! The polyphonic zither I just bought here will bring you an avant-garde song with a full flavor of the new year. Playing God! @Polyphia
(auto-translated from the Chinese)
I posted a blog before soliciting covers that everyone wants to hear, and I was keen to find that several people of insight mentioned Playing God. You fairies! Polyphia is an avant-garde band I like very much, but their chords basically have no room for realization on my traditional guzheng. However, at the end of last year, Dunhuang recommended this polyphonic zither with 43 strings! I feel like I can do it again! I can! I'm sorry to say that I was already absent-minded when I was practicing nuclear explosions, so I just tried to play this song hahahaha while practicing. Playing God can be said to be the most terrifying cover ever, the chords are extremely perverted, the rhythm is very rough, and the vocal range is invincible and jumping, it is simply inhuman! So the cover still has a lot of simplifications, I hope all the guitar masters can give me more advice!
Hope you like it! Remember to subscribe to this channel!

tim will be very surprised👍
Happy New Year! 农历新年快乐~

She deserves a reaction video from Polyphia.

First thing I thought too
💯💯💯
Definitely... this is amazing
if she joined the Polyphia playing god cover competition, she could've won. this is stunning.

@@dylancarpenter9150 at what minute ? the cover competition was 4 months ago.
@@gerricosanchez849 In his heart ❤
@@dylancarpenter9150 stop spreading false information, dude
I mean I saw the winner, that shit was also hellishly impressive, with the manual drumming too, but I don't play either instrument so can't tell which one is more impressive
Love how she even matched the aesthetic of their video. 10/10🔥❤️
As a koto player and Polyphia fan, huge props.
This was insanely impressive. I sure as hell can't play koto like that.
Pretty sure koto and guzheng are distinctively different instruments, although similar, but they each have their own charm.
I think koto personally sounds more "stringy" to me. Have you tried both? I'm curious how similar technique is as they're obviously the "same" kind of instrument.
@@aitharel3009 I should've said "as a zither player"
Never played a guzheng, but on koto we don't play the other side of those bridges (kotoji, I don't know what guzheng players call them). I forgot that was a thing on guzheng. Maybe it's a scale length thing, but it doesn't sound very musical on koto, we use that side exclusively for bends and vibrato.
@@yukikofujiwara2144 Oh I think I get what you meant now.
Yes for sure, interesting, they look "the same" in terms of playing but had no idea about the playing style. I'm not sure if the other side of the bridge playing is actually "traditional" either though as it's a modified guzheng. Usually they're only used for bends and vibrato too most of the time I think?
Have to say, I am a little jealous of you guys playing one of those "traditional" instruments haha.
@@aitharel3009 I actually play 3 traditional Japanese instruments: koto, kokyu, and shamisen.
My mother taught traditional music in Osaka for years, and was a traditional musician and enka singer before that as well. Traditional music was my whole childhood with a buffer of video games, essentially.
Very fortunate upbringing that I try not to take for granted.
@@yukikofujiwara2144 Wow, that's actually awesome, now I'm three times as jealous haha.
I'm definitely more familiar with the Chinese traditional instruments: E.G Guzheng, Erhu and Sanxian, which are the counterparts to the ones you play, and very similar due to shared history and origin.
Yet each have their own distinctive nuances in sound which make them quite distinguishable.
I always wanted to try one of these as I've only played a classical instrument, but really do enjoy a lot of these traditional ones, so the fact that you play three! Haha
This is pretty much the most impressive cover of any song I've ever heard
Imagine being able to do anything this good
But it was recorded at 75% tempo of the original song & sped up. Try playing this video at 75% & you'll notice how much more natural the camera movements & her movements are. Still sounds good at 75%, though. But it does take away from the skill required to actually play this song at full speed.
@@realeveryday504 I doubt the video is the actual take we are hearing anyways, most often than not it isn't. Playing this in a single take flawlessly would be near impossible. Still an awesome cover, despite being spliced together. That's how everyone records though, including Polyphia, so can't fault her.
@Eddie Hughes But, but, but… yeah.
@@realeveryday504 bruh i see you replying under every comment can you just stop and appreciate the music and the artist?? why are you trying to dilute her skills with that argument. seriously you have better things to do.

I’ve never seen anyone play a piece so technical on this instrument before. Amazing performance.
We don't get to see it so often on guitar either 😄
Weirdly enough, I think the Guzheng lends itself well to this style of play. Tim Henson uses a style that has a lot of polyphonic layering, and that's very difficult on a guitar. However, an instrument inherently built for polyphonic rhythms might have an easier time replicating that style than other instruments out there. That being said, its still very difficult to pull this off, and it was amazing to watch.
there are so many nore even more technical pieces for this instrument mostly very traditional chinese pieces but it isnt heard very often
I've never seen harmonics on a guzheng before wow
Because they don't want to transcend their skill, they thought that a traditional instrument should only play traditional music, well it doesn't matter a music is a music🔥🔥🔥
Even the cinematography pays homage to the original. Incredible performance and incredible MV. 🎉
This is insane! Totally awesome!❤

As much as I like the original, I find I keep coming back to re-listen to this version. Something about it just seems so very very right. Well done. Amazing playing.
Totally agree, this is the best version of this song and id love to hear her learn more
The Eastern influences give it something I didn't even know it was "missing"
@@moxxy3565the original is already super harmonics heavy and this thing is capable of ridiculously rich thick harmonies, it just sounds so good on this thing and there's so many in the song. Between that and the bends, it's such a cool and unique take.

You're like the Tim Henson of the guzheng world.
This is probably the cleanest cover of this song I've seen, you make it look effortless too 😂
Why does Polyphia's style fit this instrument so well!! Amazing performance
It doesn't normally, this isn't how normal people play but tbh it's a polyphia song, if it wasn't stupidly intricate and difficult it wouldn't be the same
because the sound characteristics of the classic guitar and the guzheng are very similar.
Maybe because Tim is half Chinese

Sorry Tim, but this is officially the coolest rendition of this song on TH-cam
This cover brings new breeze for Playing God. Especially the bend sound that only Guzheng can produce makes it so unique. I don't even know that Guzheng also has harmonics. It's good to learn and watch
She's taking the guzheng to the next level. Many guzheng player just play it the traditionally way with the chinese style of songs. This shows if you willing to be open and try something new, it opens up something else for the instrument.
The cool thing about plucked string instruments is that practically everything can be transposed from one instrument to the other and remain true to the original music, while having all the color of the instrument it's played on.
String instruments all have harmonics, that's just how vibration works

@@CBoxStudios Correct! Man, I scrolled through a lot of comments to see if anyone else noticed. Yep. Play it at 75% & see how it was really played. I'd also guess they detuned the audio of the original song to match a 25% lower tuning of this instrument so that when sped up 25% everything sounded good. Otherwise the audio from the song would've been time-stretched (what you hear at 75% & slower) & then sped up which wouldn't sound good at all. None-the-less, she definitely seemed to nail every note. But she also played it at 75% tempo & sped it up in post.
This is the most clean cover I’ve seen, truly the best, the technic everything was so BEAUTIFUL OMGGG I LOVED IT 😭😭😭you’re amazing I just love how your hands look while playing, all the movements look so beautiful and perfect

The expressiveness of guzheng and your playing works so well with this piece. You can get the crisp sound of Tim's playing with the expressiveness and rich harmonics of the guzheng. They should take you on tour.
this makes me think about so many musicians out there which play different instruments that are hardly even known and are so good at playing yet don't upload a cover so we end up not knowing that their talent even exists in the first place☹
I feel blessed by knowing Moyun and this cover exist.
Every single instrument has someone like this. A lot of people don’t realize just how mind-numbingly skilled musicians can be
Polyphia have introduced me to so many incredibly stunning artists
that was really impressive. also your dressed like a mortal kombat character so 10/10 performance

As a Polyphia fan and guitarist myself, my jaw dropped watching this. Incredible!
Nailing all those harmonics is so damn impressive, that's insane

One of the coolest covers of this song so far. So brilliant.
I don't know what I expected harmonics to sound like on a Guzheng, but it definitely wasn't that beautiful. Absolutely incredibly, the pitch bends work with the style so well! Seriously another level of talent *edit for the arpeggios, holy cow. Mind actually blown, just when I thought it couldn't get any better.
Wow, just wow, what an incredible instrument to play that on, and she plays it so beautifully and with style. It’s quite a busy piece of music but she makes it look easy. I absolutely appreciated watching that. Awesome.
I love watching the way you hit the harmonics on the guzheng! I never realized you could do that. Excellent cover, amazing talent, hope Polyphia reacts!
This was not only perfectly visually stimulating, this is probably the most fantastic cross-instrumental cover I've ever seen or heard! You are amazing!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰
This is legitimately the best cover of anything ive ever seen.
She plays it just as clean as Tim. Actually if not cleaner . Her technique is so on point. It’s so Badass. I could listen to her all day .
jup and this is wa harder too i reckon. the hand movement is way larger so it's got to be more difficult from a physical standpoint alone, not even counting in the tons of strings. also the angle your hands/fingers are to the instrument seems to be harder for intricate stuff
Because she recorded this at 75% speed. See for yourself by playing at 75%.
@@realeveryday504 On what basis do you claim that?
@@realeveryday504 ok?

Simply outstanding. I've had this on repeat for almost an hour. Very well played.
The most insane part is that she hits almost every note in a virtually 1 for 1 translation
they were born to be better than us at everything =)
As a musician, that is what I noticed as well. But upon a second & third viewing I realized how unnatural the camera & she moved. Play it at 75% speed & see for yourself.
Nah, the most insane part is she thinks she better wear a mask around these infected strings.
@RealEveryDay504 clown, it looks so painfully slowed down at .75, this is am actual jam session and you should feel bad for crying wolf about an artists talent.
This artist - Moyun, is called Goddess/Lord of Chinese guzheng, for her supreme technical skills (in some of the vids here she plays 2 guzhengs at the same time), lightning-fast fingers, and innovative interpretation of foreign songs with her own flair. If you are speechless watching this video, conventionally played with background track, wait till you see her CLEAN covers of AC/DC's Thunderstruck (1.7 million views, where she is the one-girl band, playing everything - guitar, bass, vocal AND percussion for god's sake!!! simultaneously and unconventionally SOLO, on 1 guzheng, without distraction of cool background. You can tell that she is having a grand time, with the attitude that she doesn't give a f*** what others think or say: mask or not. This genius showcased her highest musicality and BADASSERY in its purest form. I was actually laughing the whole time in utter disbelief), and my favorite - Chinese song Quan Yu Tian Xia (with a whopping 22 million views on a different channel, on here it's 2.2 million). I still have yet to pick up my jaw from the floor! 😀👍 She hails from Chengdu, mainland China.
Pretty sure Thunderstruck is playing audio that was recorded independently of the video footage, which taints the whole thing for me. Sounds awesome though.
Acdc...thunderstruck.............I think the polyphia transposing is a thousand times better ..... I don't want to hear another acdc cover
And view count doesn't mean better, view count is usually determined by "how cool the video looks" moreso than "how intricate is the music theory/performance"
Don't believe me? Look at the comments, it's more about the background than the insane playing,
You know, the whole "virtuosity is dead" thing, because people only want to see or hear cool things, instead of you know, being musically inclined
Edit: I mean, frank zappa is an absolute legend but lower view counts than he deserves,
Same for many other legends, they weren't "pop" enough
@@Lundix You think that in music videos you actually "see" the musicians playing the track you listen to? lmaoooo oh boi. Like, yes, they play to have realistic hand movements and so the video fits the audio, but the audio you're listening to isn't a "live recording" of the take of their video. And I thought that was obvious...
@@TheSpartanS196 Depends on the video and artist, sometimes it absolutely is a live take.
@@jegnur Music videos in 99.9999999% of the cases aren't. And I mean official music videos, with editing, special effects, maybe even some story going on, cuts, all the things that make them "cinematographic". A dude playing the guitar while sitting isn't a music video (and unless it's one single continuous take with no cuts and embellishments, that's probably 'fake' too. Like, if it changes POV, then focusses on the hands, then the dude has changed bass/guitar/whatever...). Live takes are live takes and thus their quality mostly sucks. If you want sound quality you ain't getting it with a live video recording.
