I'm willing to belive Halloween 2 was rescued by John Carpenter from Rick Rosenthal because we saw the Garbage he made with Halloween Resurrection when left to his own devices.
In his book John Carpenter: Prince of Darkness, he says that he had a responsibility to the investors and the studio to deliver a scary movie, but that taking a film away from a director is something he doesn't believe in and he hated having to do it.
20:10 I've been hospitalized for more than 2 months after a bad fall. Just on my wing there are more than 30 patients and a minimum of 6 Healthcare workers on the overnight shift. If Haddonfield is such a small town then why do they have a huge hospital? If they have a huge hospital why is there only 1 doctor, 3 nurses, 1 PCA, 2 EMTs, 1 security guard, 1 adult patient and 2 babies? The math ain't mathin'!

She didn't check the children? I noticed that as well when she was brought into the hospital in the beginning of Halloween 2. Laurie would never forget about the kids even putting their safety above her own.
Man how great would it have been to see Loomis with that gun that Meeker had in H4. Screaming like Rambo did in Rambo 2 when he gets back from Vietnam. Loomis could went in Smith's groove shooting up the file room screaming "I told everyone" Rrraaaajhhh!!! 🤣🤣🤣
I remember as a kid, watching Halloween 2 for the first time with my friends in the early 80's, and the absolute BEST part of the movie for me was when Marion tells Loomis " That Strode girl, that's Michael Myers sister". 😵 WE WENT CRAZY! LOL! Now of course they AREN'T related AGAIN. And all the little extras, like the little boy with the razor blade is his mouth is the little boy from The Fog, love that. And what EVERYONE already knows , that Dick Warlock's two sons are in the movie. And the friend walking to the car with nurse Karen after the party at Stevie Mathis house, lol , she was the mean girl Wendy in Prom Night. Her name is Darcy in H2. I enjoy your podcast. You're both snarky/jaded and yet still affectionate and reverent in your attitudes towards these movies. Thanks for sharing and elaborating on these insights from the Halloween series (& for introducing me to and recommending the Taking Shape book on which much of your conversation here is based on). Friday the 13th Part II is superior to the original--tighter, more cohesive and direct. There are aspects of Halloween 2 that are actually more entertaining and thrilling to me than its predecessor. Thanks again.
32:40 Isn't Dino DeLaurentis the same guy who forced Thomas Harris to write the shitty Hannibal Lecter prequel novel Hannibal Rising which gave him a stupid backstory where Nazis killed and ate his sister and fed what was left of her to Lecter in a broth which was supposedly why he killed and ate people.
Another fantastic episode. I’d love to see as many of these as you guys are willing to do, including H3. I actually really like the Alice kill at the beginning. It’s cool seeing Michael roam around Haddonfield and I love the whole Mrs. Elrod sequence followed by the random kill. I thought it was creepy. One plot hole I’ve heard discussed is that the TV reporters know about the murders from the first film before Brackett does. You’d think the cops would’ve informed Brackett about the murders before telling the media. One really interesting tidbit you guys talked about that I wasn’t aware of is that Laurie’s flashback dream sequence was originally longer. I would love to see whatever else they have of it. Is Laurie supposed to know Michael is her brother and the dream was a repressed memory? It’s clear she doesn’t know he’s her brother when she’s told Michael Myers is the person who attacked her and she doesn’t seem to remember him after she wakes up, so I found that kind of confusing.
Hey Bobby, thanks for the feedback. We are leaving Halloween 3 until September to tie in with the 40th anniversary. However re recorded Halloween 4 and that should premiere this Friday. It’s a good one 😉 Love your input.
Loved this guys, Halloween 2 is my favourite sequel it ends it for me but I'd love to see Rosenthals full version before John carpenter added his scenes maybe In future it will get a 100th anniversary release when we're all dead 🤣
Y’know I saw a still photo of that the shot with Michael bleeding from from his eyes and I thought they were open but I looked closer and they are indeed closed.
I seen one thing where they said he forgoed his payment so he can make the first movie get his name over title and have complete control now he's saying he didn't Gey paid that they owe him yeah they do forever owe him but that's what I've heard afewtimes that he was ok for not getting paid so he can get all his things he wanted and
One of the odd moments in the beginning of H2 is after Micheal falls off the balcony, Loomis actually pulls the trigger again and he was clearly pointing at nothing but air as Michael had already fallen. Why pull the trigger after the guy fell off the balcony? Also, they call MM 23 years old in the end credits, not 21. H2 was the first Halloween movie I saw, back around 1990 on the USA Network. One of the things I love about older movies is the lack of detail and continuation that they just didn't care enough about to pay attention to details. Been hooked on Halloween ever since.
It was good to learn some good trivia about this film that I didn't know about. H2 kind of gets worse every time I watch it though. It's generally a pretty quiet film with a number of lulls in pacing and overly long scenes. Garrett's death is drawn out and boring. But I still think it has a great final chase. And of course, it has my favourite version of Myers played by Dick Warlock.
@@TSLMoviePodcast i apologize and will rewatch. I did you hear you mention that it was reshot but somehow missed why they thought it was important to reshoot in a different location. Seems so unnecessary. But I love the deeper facts you gave on H'78 and now H'81. Subscribed!
Laurie, the babies and one other patient did ring for a nurse lol. But deleted scenes show the whole staff holds Laurie down to sedate her again. Jimmy is basically feeling Laurie up too. But the funny thing is when they all hold Laurie down. Michael knocks out the lights in the hospital after killing Mr. Garrett. But it's funny, I can't do it justice how funny or stupid it looks when the lights go out everyone looks at one another like this 😮 and it cuts to Bud smoking a joint by himself in the cafeteria 🤣
Never understood the hate for the brother/sister angle....for me it works fine as long as this was the end of the Michael Myers storyline which it was supposed to be for all intents. That ending was pretty difinitive with Michael being burnt to a crisp.
Alot of Fans bitch about the Brother and sister concept ,even though that Michael Myers Kills His First sister Judith in the First movie No bitching there from anyone...
@jamestyer8294 Yeah...and part of they're reasoning is that it gives him a motivation to kill which makes him less menacing or scary....but I don't know, he's still killing mostly anything that gets in his way....I just never had a problem with the sibling angle as long as H2 was the end of the Myers storyline, which they wanted it to and tried to make it be.
If you got Taking Shape 1 or 2 I think it's time cover the entire franchise, lots of content, there's gotta be similar books for other franchises like Friday The 13th
Hey I wanna talk about the ending with Laurie in the ambulance going to the other hospital I know Tommy was alive he didn’t die he just fell out in the car
I feel like this sequel gets trashed because it is every bit as good as the original in terms of continuation without copying aspects that didnt need to be copied. I see the original film as the warning. He's coming. And I see the sequel as the town's acknowledgment that he's there. It would have been pointless to rehash the first film.
Certainly it has its flaws but today in 2022 I STILL say this is the sequel that all the others are judged by. It's the best one...because all the original players were still involved..something that was missing by all future sequels.
Dick Warlock has done a lot of great movies. In Jaws when Hooper goes down in the cage to try to kill the shark, that was stuntman Dick Warlock amd not Dreyfus in those scenes. If you watch closely at the closeup of "Hooprs" terrified face,it so clearly not Dreyfuss in the cage. Well, online toy store Entertainment Earth just released a line of the Jaws human characters, and one of them is just that scene- Hooper wide eyes in terror as we was in the film. However if you look at the doll's face inside the wetsuit and goggles its Dick Warlocks face!!! (though they are marketing the doll as Hooper of course. Dick lives on in collectibles!
@@brianskeggs9785 ReallY? I own every Jaws book ever written and have not heard that. Which book or making of did you hear this at? I'd love to read it! Apparently there IS some Jaws material I'm missing! Let me know and thx!
I love this movie, gotta say it’s a toss up between this one and Halloween 4 as far as straying from the original and being next in line. The fact that the mask is so bad and so many people love it speaks volumes. And the marketing for this one reall was fantastic, especially on the amc channel back in the day

It’s a good one 😉
Love your input.
Could be a cool fan film where he stalks Laurie in the apartment complex. Always loved that idea
I’d like to have seen that
Could you please explain/in a nutshell what that Jamie Lee Curtis/parents scene that was cut from the film? What was that all about?
Just a surreal dream sequence with her foster parents crying blood. Sounds bizarre but I would have quite liked to have seen it.
@@TSLMoviePodcast thanks!
1:51 Given how Rosenthal went on to do Resurrection and that was shit I don't blame them for kicking him off II.
Loomis actually reloads the revolver in Halloween II while he's riding with Brackett...
He does. I think Franks was riffing on the seven shots that you hear at the start of H2.
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼
@@TSLMoviePodcast Ahhh, yes...could be.
Loved this guys, Halloween 2 is my favourite sequel it ends it for me but I'd love to see Rosenthals full version before John carpenter added his scenes maybe In future it will get a 100th anniversary release when we're all dead 🤣
I’m not sure I need to see more Quincy
@@TSLMoviePodcast 🤣🤣 Quincy
Halloween 78 was the best film of the franchise
I really thought part 2 was slightly better than 1
I can understand that 👍🏼
I like Halloween 2 over part 1 myself too i think its an awesome movie!
It has a lot of qualities
These are some things I also haven’t heard before can y’all throw some sources in there on the next one ?
It’s mainly the three books in the description under the video.
❤ 2 is great, so violent
Sometimes I wonder if it’s a more enjoyable watch than the OG
What's the book you get this info from ?
Taking Shape Jesse. The link is below the video
@@TSLMoviePodcast thanks
Y’know I saw a still photo of that the shot with Michael bleeding from from his eyes and I thought they were open but I looked closer and they are indeed closed.
16:39 Without all the deleted stuff it just seems like Laurie reacted badly to the meds.
That’s just a line they slipped into the film to make it work, you can even tell it was ADR’d after in one scene with Janet
4:40 It was embezzled by Joseph Wolf, Irwin Yablans producing partner.
Is that so?
@@TSLMoviePodcast Yeah. It's in the Taking Shape book, I believe. It might be discussed in the chapter dealing with 3 or 4.
@@TSLMoviePodcast They've been suing each other for decades.
Oh cool, I’m about to read that.
I seen one thing where they said he forgoed his payment so he can make the first movie get his name over title and have complete control now he's saying he didn't Gey paid that they owe him yeah they do forever owe him but that's what I've heard afewtimes that he was ok for not getting paid so he can get all his things he wanted and
Great episode guys. Too bad this movie doesn't exist anymore
Yep, would it really hurt to include it. Just shows how much of a low opinion the likes of Curtis and Carpenter have for this film
@@TSLMoviePodcast for real!
Yeah the credit errors are annoying. Not to mention the fact he shoots an extra bullet in H2. We still love the movie though.
Thanks Lee
John Hurt also lost best actor award to Robert DeNiro which I feel was unjust.
Absolutely
Sorry i couldn't make it, work.
No problem buddy.
I have just started reading Halloween 2 chapter.
Great books
The thing that bugs me the most is the radio reporting details before all the bodies are brought out. I heard you guys talk about it in another video.
You didnt mention why did they bother to reshoot the opening and have The Shape shot out of a different part of the house than the original. Why?
We do mention this, the fact that the stunt is redone with the ramp etc.
@@TSLMoviePodcast i apologize and will rewatch. I did you hear you mention that it was reshot but somehow missed why they thought it was important to reshoot in a different location. Seems so unnecessary. But I love the deeper facts you gave on H'78 and now H'81. Subscribed!
No problem, thanks buddy 🙏🏼
That’s the plan
Will you guys be using Taking Shape 2 to make episodes based off of the lost Halloween sequels?
That's the plan
Hey I wanna talk about the ending with Laurie in the ambulance going to the other hospital I know Tommy was alive he didn’t die he just fell out in the car
But that ending keeps changing
Do you mean Jimmy?
I feel like this sequel gets trashed because it is every bit as good as the original in terms of continuation without copying aspects that didnt need to be copied.
I see the original film as the warning. He's coming. And I see the sequel as the town's acknowledgment that he's there.
It would have been pointless to rehash the first film.
It’s a great sequel. A great double bill.
Certainly it has its flaws but today in 2022 I STILL say this is the sequel that all the others are judged by. It's the best one...because all the original players were still involved..something that was missing by all future sequels.
Completely agree
Amazing chap, always love listening to his stories
Interestingly enough...if you watch the making of Jaws, that closeup of the eyes isn't Warlock either...it's yet another stunt man or something
@@brianskeggs9785 ReallY? I own every Jaws book ever written and have not heard that. Which book or making of did you hear this at? I'd love to read it! Apparently there IS some Jaws material I'm missing! Let me know and thx!
My ranking would be: 2, 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 3, Kills, 2018, RZ 1, RZ 2
Thanks for sharing
The best slasher films have anonymous killers.this is just more mysterious!!
I loved part 2
Great movie
I love this movie, gotta say it’s a toss up between this one and Halloween 4 as far as straying from the original and being next in line. The fact that the mask is so bad and so many people love it speaks volumes. And the marketing for this one reall was fantastic, especially on the amc channel back in the day
Thanks for watching BM
I've read taking shape I & II. I'm rereading I because of your new shows. These books are must haves for Halloween fans.
Maybe you guys can do a show focusing on the best almost sequels from taking shape II. Some had promise
I’m enjoying going through them again.
I prefer H2 to H1 .
That's not going go be last one lol. They've already said they'll bemore. Might take a break but they got plenty of ideas lol
"I SHOT HIM SIX TIMES!!!" forever my favorite sequel
