    One year, the zoo here in Singapore asked for people to donate their trees to the zoo's beaver, Justin Beaver. So... that's a form of recycling?

    My favorite internet personality! the live vs. artificial trees is a little more complicated. a good artificial tree will last years or decades (I've had mine for 20 years), and thus doesn't require energy requirements annually to grow/harvest/deliver/discard. Definitely not saying artificial is better (either overall or for the environment)...just something to consider.

    Tree Tips-
    1. The spongy material right under the thin bark is the ONLY AREA that absorbs water. Easily remove it (the bark is thin) from the base where the cut is to expose more of it for watwr absorption.
    2. The trees needles drop when water deprived from the bottom up. If you want to test the tree for needle drop, pull on some branch near the bottom, not the top or at arm's height.
    3. Use hot water in the tree stand reservoir the very first time you are filling it. After that the water temperature you give it doesn't have to be hot.
    4. If you do see that you have bottom needle drop, spray Wilt Stop or Wilt Pruf on the bottom and entire tree before you decorate it. It needs time to dry and Wilt Stop really helps.
    5. Place a tree disposal bag under the trunk of the tree (I cut a hole for the trunk) and pull it over the tree when you drag it into the house. (keeps it from leaving a trail of needles in the house. Then drop the bag to the floor and leave it under the tree to catch needles when you decorate it. The trunk hole is bug enough to access tree stand for water. Cover it (bag) with your tree skirt or collar after decorating. When ready to haul it out for recycling, pull up the bag and you will reduce the mess of clean up drastically!
    6. Lights- Wrapping each branch from tip to trunk takes more lights but the results are amazing.
    The thicker the tree branches and needles, the more lights you need. My 7.5' tree took 1,000 lights because it was such a thick tree.
    Save a light box for when you run out and need to match the light color. Warm white, incandescent and LED all look different. 🎄
    🙏🌞

    • @aaronandrews3059

      As their name states, they are soft as fur. Members of the Abies genus don't have sharp spiky needles as pine or spruce, which makes them a pleasure to decorate. Another bonus, they don't have wind born pollen like pine and spruce. For those who suffer from allergies, these make a great tree because they won't have any pollen residue on them.

    Well i just finished setting up my Christmas tree (artificial one from like many years ago) Surprisingly, i did the every branches lighting method without ever knowing there are techniques, (just because I got the long string this year). normally it will be just a circle method. and THANK YOU for that 100 light for the vertical foot of trees! My rules for Christmas trees is the light need to be white or warm yellow light only, no colourful light.
    and also thank you for the environmental clarification, I already have this old one from years ago before I was very conscious about sustainability. I will just use and kept this artificial one as long as it can.

    is fire not a problem where you live?

    • @TrueFoodTV
      @TrueFoodTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No real tree ever spontaneously combusted! Fire is only a problem if you create unsafe conditions. 😉

    • @dr.kraemer

      my parents live outside Santa Fe, and they remove huge amounts of brush from their yard every year to reduce fire risk. but then, they also use an artificial tree these days...

    Funny how none of these are the same species as those we have for Christmas trees in Scandinavia....

    • @TrueFoodTV
      @TrueFoodTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! While we didn't have time to get into it in the video, I was fascinated to learn the differences between Europe and the US. We have different preferences for species, even for shaping/pruning, etc. I have noticed this year there are lots more Nordmann available here compared to last year (when we filmed this).
