    We'll have to give it another shot in the dry so you can rip it around corners! Also, I didn't mention a whole lot about NA vs NB near the middle. It comes to three things: interior comfort (ex. seats and center console), chassis stiffness, and the 1.8L (preferably with VVT).

      Can you make a video covering that topic? I currently have a 93, im thinking about seeking out a nb to replace it. I thought about doing the vdt swap but people say just buy a nb

      NBs also got better suspension components, brakes, and solid lifters. The 5 speeds were upgraded and the 6 speeds introduced as well. NAs however have more interior room and are lighter. NBs are definitely the tightest miata inside.

    I drive a gun metal grey 2014 MX 5 NC. A ten second car. It came out of the box race ready with Le Mans paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Every time I drive it I'm in a James Bond movie. When people see it they ask, 'does it have machine guns behind the fog lights?' The license plate reads 009. It's definitely licensed to kill. Does a 'drift' nicely.
    Q branch read out, race ready with paddle shifters. A ten second car, does 0 to 100 mph in ten seconds. Double wish bone suspension and drive while flat tires makes her a nimble cat with tough paws. The body is made of rust resistant steel and carbon fiber (Kevlar) material. It has quarter inch metal armor under the engine and transmission. A seven speaker Boise sound system keeps the Bond theme music coming thru 5 by 5.

    I'm leaning towards supercharger over turbo with mine just because of the explosive transmissions. Turbos give you lots of torque and torque is what breaks drivetrains.

    • @wheel00fah
      @wheel00fah 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I installed the FFS TVS900 kit in my '94 NA. The positive is instant torque, even at low RPMs - great for daily driving. It really does feel like having a bigger engine. However, there is no question that if I were to do it again an FM or Bell turbo setup would be my choice. Here's why:
      For supercharging NAs and NBs your options are either Eaton (FFS) or Rotrex (everyone else). The Rotrex spins at extremely high RPMs (>100k) and is known to fail when abused, especially if you're bouncing of the rev limiter regularly. More importantly though is the way it disturbs the torque curve; the best way I've seen it described is "It feels very much like a cammed N/A engine that has lost the midrange."
      The FFS kit uses either a TVS900 or MP62 supercharger, which by far is the most well-built part in the entire kit. Every other part feels like jury-rigged bargain bin parts, right down to the literal Home Depot level hardware that rusts in two weeks. Almost every single part in the kit caused issues, from the fuel rail that was too short to fit the pressure regulator to the intake brace holes being drilled in the wrong spot to the thin aluminum throttle cable bracket that caused my throttle to stick open on multiple occasions - and that is only the start of the list. The capstone of it all is the extremely dubious "E-Cool" system which provides little to no charge air cooling when using gasoline, meaning that the supercharger will always be running extremely hot. As a result the car can't be run on a track, as the extreme heat will cook the needle bearings, destroying the charger. If you can run ethanol 24/7 this issue largely disappears.
      To be fair, the FFS kit has run well for 30K miles and makes the car much more fun to drive at 10-12PSI. However, I could be making 40 more horsepower if I had gone with a cheaper, easier to install, more reliable turbo kit instead. The transmission will not have any issue holding any power level a stock bottom end can put out (up to around 230 HP safely for the NA8 on stock rods).

    • @Shakshuka69
      @Shakshuka69 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wheel00fah very interesting. I looked, and couldn't really find any instances of rotrex failure on miatas, especially not with the TDR kit. Perhaps one or two gripes with the original KW setup, but zero complaints for Track Dog. It seems they got the cooling under control and lots of people are reporting back season after season with no issues. And honestly, for someone that wants to drive 10/10ths and not worry about having to keep buying 6 speeds or doing a Getrag swap, that's really appealing. And 245 whp is nothing to sneeze at. That's right where turbo motors start eating stock drivetrains if you drive them hard. So why spend money on an EFR setup or even just an FM2 kit if I'm never gonna build the motor or swap the trans?

    • @wheel00fah
      @wheel00fah 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Shakshuka69 You're right; a lot of the failures seem to be on high-HP cars, so it's likely you'll never have an issue. I just wasn't (and still am not) a fan of the way they build power compared to traditional blowers and turbo setups. They do definitely fill a niche in terms of cost and ease of installation though. If you want to have fun on the street I still think you are better served elsewhere, and turbo cars making the same power will always be much faster due to the increased powerband. At the end of the day though it's all about what you want out of the car - despite the shortcomings of the kit, the TVS900 still fit the bill for me at the time.

    • @Shakshuka69
      @Shakshuka69 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wheel00fah you're right about turbo power delivery. Its definitely a unique experience and it's nice to hit peak boost so early as opposed to at redline. That's the part that scares me though... I like launches and clutch dumps and fast rev matched downshifts. I'm pretty sure my early NB2 6 speed would turn into a 4 speed pretty quickly the way I drive, if I were to dump 220 lb ft of torque on it regularly. That's what makes the rotrex appealing.

    • @wheel00fah
      @wheel00fah 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Shakshuka69 Ah yeah, that makes sense. Used to do that on my old slippery stock clutch all the time but I'm kinda afraid to do it too often on my new one. Rotrex is probably a safe bet in that case.

    I just paid off my 2011 Subaru Legacy. I'm looking to purchase an NB Miata here in the next two or three months. I was looking at GTI's at first. Maybe even a 2.5RS with an STI swap but the Miata weight wise is a lot less than both of those. Doesn't take much to make them scoot. I wanna practicing driving manual more and what better than a Miata?
