My dad won a regional tournament for this game and received a binder with the full set of cards as a prize.

That is so cool. This game is so awesome when you're playing advanced and with someone who knows the ins and outs of the games. So many nuanced layers. :)

@@pietrorasputin52 The advanced option is certainly MUCH more enjoyable than the basic rule set. I've a feeling they'd still be playing the first game had they not switched 😂. It really helps to have a deck tuned to your investigator's skill checks as well, which the starter decks do a poor job of implementing. I agree with Zach & Steve that boxing this as a complete (or lcg-type) experience likely would have been a better decision, as well as stream-lining some of the parameters to keep track of. It's still very fun, especially with all the bluffing mind games.
It's a shame a lot of these older games just completely vanish and die, which makes the throwback series just a *tad* bittersweet when you discover a game that piques your interest yet it is impossible (or extremely expensive) to obtain. I DID find a seller offering the entire collection of WARS however, so I am excited for that the arrive.

Tzera does your dad still play? There’s a 25th Anniversary Virtual Tournament he can sign up for: xfilesccg.com

@@tzera_rhuon Yep, the starter decks card distribution didn't help any. LoL. But for anyone playing the game to there's an actual official tournament happening! After 25 years, it's so awesome.

A friend of mine recently found a giant box of this game while cleaning out a closet. We tried a couple of the starters and the best part about it was recognizing actors we'd forgotten were in X-Files. Those starters really are terrible at selling this game, and even after trying the advanced rules I'm not sure the X-Files CCG is one of THE classic 90s card games.
But it's always a hoot to see CCG card design from a time when everybody was still trying to figure it out.

Whoa, this game brought back some memories! Thanks for getting this game on the table. I am totally excited about it again. This is the second Throwback Thursday that has made me get back into a "dead" CCG that I really enjoyed. The first was the Star Wars TCG you guys did, I think it was almost a year ago!

This was a solid fun pub game in it's day. Find a quiet booth, get a few pints in, play guess the X-File.
I still have my complete set, with the baffling Ultra rare agents that are the same as the starter set agents, just with different pictures. For a failed game, they've surprisingly held their value pretty well.

The site with a face down card on it stays in play until 🔎 or at end of turn.

I own a single starter deck I bought back in the day when I was just buying any old CCG I came across. Never had the chance to play, but I was obsessed with X-Files while it was running. The game (advanced version) actually looked pretty interesting. Probably still overdesigned like most 90s card games, but it was certainly unique.

Great job guys on playing both formats and showcasing the game.
    Two quick things though:
If bluffs are placed under a site, it doesn't automatically go away at the end of the Investigation Phase. It remains in play until investigated.
Also, advanced play is for constructed play. So your advanced game would have been a lot more nuanced and engaging for you both if you had used constructed decks and not starters.
But I'm glad you guys showcased this amazing game.

Bluffs or any other card is placed face down under a site.

    Actually...there were 3 sets released.
De first set was named Premiere (containing shots from season 1 and 2) the Followed by the set named 101361 (named after Fox Mulder's bday, containing shots from season 3). And after that they released The Truth Is Out There set which had the revised Premiere cards where 30 cards of the set were replaced with new ones. And there were quite a few promo cards released.
Apparently they had a new 125 card set named 22364 (Dana Scully's bday) ready to be released. But never saw daylight as the game got cancelled.
This video wants to dig up my collection and just browse the cards again as I have a complete Premiere and 101361 set. And several of the new cards from The Truth Is Out There and promo cards.
Thank you for giving this game some love. ❤

Oh, and the reason adversaries in general are more restricted in where they can drop is because in general they're going to be the most effective at eliminating skills from a skill check by taking out agents.
So it's a very solid balance they did in the game.
