back in the day race teams would have been given plenty of blocks to test and reject. As you say, they only had to hold 500BHP. so no need to go all in on them.
GT500 blocks are just 500hp blocks. It's just a Nismo wank item like half the Nismo catalogue. They're fine for purists who are after a nice 600ps OEM+ build with the nismo kit. High hp straight line RB builds are isolated more toward the Aussie demographic.
They pretty much just advertised it as the same block they used in GT500, which it was. No advertising on the strength of it so I guess Nissan can technically get away with it. Back when they were being produced they weren’t that expensive anyway. It’s just scarcity and forum myths drove up the pricing in the later half of the 2010s.
The owner of that block must be devastated very interesting to watch though
Depends on what the owner expected. Maybe he just wanted an RRR block because it's an RRR block.

I believe that it's just more meticulously machined. Like propper blueprinted specs before leaving, rather than the everydayer blocks
It could be an homologation block that the GT500 teams had to use to pass scrutineering

Perfect block for 500hp which is what gt500 runs lol. We all made this block the holy grail. Not nissan. And now we woke up
Exactly. People think it's a bad block because maybe it can't run 1,000 hp? 500 hp in any car is loads of fun and that block will last decades.
GT blocks are expected to last 1 race though, no? And if you know its limits to build it up to the max power spec - that's all it needs to do, once.
How does that compare to say a cast RB30 block?
They have a video from a few years back where they test all RB25, RB26, and RB30 blocks. Check that one out.

I think they're about 10-12k.
