In this Slay the Spire gameplay, Baalorlord does an Ascension 20 run with Ironclad. First, he gives tips on choosing a path and a starting bonus. Last time i did a boss swap I got busted crown. The entire run from that point was just an awful struggle.
That's funny because I just got my first watcher win this morning with exactly that situation 😂 and yes it was rough
I'll take crown over runic dome any day of the week. Dome just takes all the fun out of it
I got my ascension 10 defect win on a boss swap busted crown. It was a super sweaty run though. In act 3 I got the question card relic that gave me an upgraded consume and a capacitor. Still would have lost if white noise didn't also give me a capacitor on the act 3 boss though.
@@captainvimes6079watcher has a better time imo w busted crown than the other characters (read: less bad). That’s bc her starter deck is very strong to deal w act 1 so she wouldn’t take as much damage while hunting down for cards/shops

This Juggernaut of an Ironclad seems Confused sometimes as to whether he has any debuffs or not!
This video confirms that Juggernaut is a curse in act 1. You have to have more energy/synergies before you take it. Speculative Juggernauts are worse than speculative demon forms imo.
I saw a Jorbs run recently where he took two Juggernaughts in Act 1, took no Attack cards in Act 1 and won.

@@jacobwansleeben3364 that's a speculative Juggernaut that just so happened to work out. It's like saying C for every multiple choice question is a valid strategy just because certain tests worked out in the past
Demon Form isn't bad, Demon Form has its uses - notably that it means you don't ever need to pick up any sort of scaling ever again and instead you can just go and pick up a ton of up front.

Thank you for all the help Baalorlord! I beat the heart this morning as watcher after....way too many attempts. Turns out my biggest mistake was not keeping my deck small.
10:30 It blows my mind how Baalor still hasn't learned his lesson about Jawworm. It's almost a parody at this point. He always defends to save 2, then later says "oopsie, should have striked.". Is he doing it on purpose?
We see him saving HP and getting punished, but maybe there are jaw worm fights where it did save HP.
He was also confident because of the upgraded Bash.
@@4ltruizer In my experience watching so much of Baalor, more than half the time, it loses him more hp. And sometimes it loses A LOT more hp. (can be over 30, and run ending). The risk/reward doesn't seem worth it. Additionally, he always says "should have striked", so he seems to agree. But he's still tempted next time into saving 2 hp early on.

I have watched a bunch of Baalor, including the infamous "Silent lose a bunch to Jaw Worm" incident.

He is indeed tempted to save that HP sometimes.

But also, I remember his decision to strike on certain fights, getting perfect lethal.
It's just that we can't help but notice Jaw Worm strike incidents.
TL;DR: Baalor is a human, makes mistakes, it's just that Jaw Worm fights repeating history is funny af.
@@SuperYtc1 I don’t think it’s on purpose. id wager it’s one of those “Ik what the right thing to do is but I still want to risk it” bc every hit point matters and sometimes it does work out. I’ve watched a lot of his runs too- I don’t think it’s that skewed towards him losing more health than saved (maybe you can argue 60-40 or 70-30) so that he may think it’s still worth trying to get good rng?
Some lessons I'm taking from Act 1:
- Don't take early speculative Juggernaut over consistent damage like Twin Strike.
- Play Strike early on against Jaw Worm instead of blocking for 2 or less.
- Don't take elite fights early if you're not sufficiently prepared. Spend time evaluating the deck and its damage output.
- Orrery is one of the most OP things in the game.
- Fairies don't get drunk.
That early speculative Juggernaut really paid off at the end. It definitely hurt in the short term though.
@@joshuahitchins1897 We'd need a much larger sample size to determine the true answer, but I'd guess it was an incorrect pick and luck/Baalor's skill got him through. It lost so much hp in act 1, and restricted some power gain options due to the hp pressure. End game solutions are almost always found, they don't need to be picked up on floor 1-4 imo. If Twin Strike wasn't there, I could see it maybe being a correct pick.
32:20 I can’t believe anyone hasn’t reached a20 on the clad with how much Baalor has been playing clad lately! I only had 67 hours in when I cleared a20 on clad and a16 on the watcher and a2 for the silent and defect characters…. What I’m saying is that watching him play as clad has been insane for winning against the heart. lol
I'm near the end of act 2 of this video currently, but so far this may be the single worst spot weakness I've ever seen. Virtually guaranteed to show up when the enemy isn't attacking.
Id love to see some format where you use that save state mod to replay lost runs at certain points to identify what changes couldve been made. Itd be cool to see if after 5 or 6 times you notice a fundamental changemyou wouldnt otherwise have seen.
He's talked about this before, bascially they'res so many branches and changes as you go through the run that it's a complete new run very quickly
@James-ff7mk yeah I remember him mentioning that in a video, what I had in mind was a more constrained version, i.e. what's the fewest number of floors he can go back to avoid the incoming death

Watching this live must have been very different because I wouldn’t have assumed this run would actually make it, and he even seemed a bit frustrated in Act 1 and early Act 2
Interesting how Juggernaut -- ostensibly a weaker than average power against Collector -- not only ended up obliterating the fight through pellets flex, but was also the only card in the deck capable of doing so

I just finished a run with mods enabled. Does this block me from getting on the leaderboards? Or is it a cloud sync thing? If it is, I think you should put a disclaimer. Definitely feels bad to have your highest highscore ever and not get it on the leaderboard. I got 3068 with Silent.
Are you talking about the daily? Baalor doesn’t play dailies these days anymore, so I’m not sure why he needs to put a disclaimer

you act like the stuff you saying is completely new. If it's completely new they probably haven't found your channel yet.
so RNG fix is basically cheating. if you input the seed, the card reward on floor 2 is dual wield, iron wave, anger. I would say getting a 2nd floor juggernaut with an actual 1% chance, and then getting multiple rares early in act 1 is proof. imagine telling everyone how to get better, then just relying on cheating to do it for you. He even states early in the video you would need the RNG fix mod to get the same results from the same seed, so i tried it. Most definitely unsubscribing after a year plus. I don't like cheaters, it's frustrating to play such a hard game the legit way, and if it was my job to do so it feels dishonest to bend the RNG in your favor. I'll come back if he plays legit like most everyone else has to on phone, console, etc.
RNGfix does not alter the chances of getting rewards. It just makes them unpredictable. What it does , basically, is use the main seed (visible to the player) to generate a set of secondary seeds (invisible) wich are then used to feed each seperate function of the RNG. One seed for card rewards, one for events, one for potions etc. The calculating formulas themselves do not change. So it does create different rewards than the unmodded game, but not necessarily better. Sometimes they're just worse.

@@elim9054 yes I do. This is further proved by the shop. Orrery presents five card rewards. so, after the elite it's reasonable to see a rare due to high rare chance. He is offered three. Meaning the rare chance is reset to -5%. He then sees 6 more commons, and somehow miraculously sees another rare at 1% chance. He then proceeds to floor nine where he sees yet another rare at a 5% chance. You can tell he is aware of this by how often he checks the rare chance during runs. The mod was designed to prevent people from noticing patterns, but there no ways Baalor wouldn't have noticed how often he hits rares with low odds over and over. it drastically alters the course of the game and provided an incredible advantage on this seed with a .005% chance to see three rares with those percentages.
@@AnestisKatsiavos-bn7vw I understand you read the mod description, no I encourage you to check his card rewards going forward, he always keep an eye on his rare percentage and I'm sure you'll see the same. I've watch him pull rare after rare early in runs and after hundreds of hours watching his "luck" is just this mods questionable coding. He got three rares by floor nine. I played the seed mulitple times following the same path he did and never saw three that early, and on this run it gave a massive early juggernaut, fiend fire, and immolate, and I didn't see single rare. The shop didn't even offer orrery which gave him 25 more card rewards and I had choice of three useless relics. if it's cheating on this run by giving him a huge head start then it's cheating on plenty of other seeds as well. I've got no evidence otherwise. I'm happy to be wrong, but I don't trust him anymore
@@jacobdigby9822 There is no way of knowing prior to clicking 'Start' what gets generated in a run. Although you tried the same seed that he did, it wasn't really the same because RNG Fix changes the generated options. You could think of RNG Fix as the latest unofficial patched game version that changes the way seeds work. It would be like using a PC seed on a console.. you won't get the same results. Using RNG Fix doesn't give you any advantages but rather takes away predictable options that are SUPPOSED to be randomized, so you could argue using RNG Fix makes the game more difficult.
As for your argument about seeing multiple rares in Act 1, some runs are just lucky in that regard. Most of RNG Fix runs won't see that many rares. Card reward rare percentage isn't touched by RNG Fix.
