Just depends on your state as to thelaw on how far it can hang out the back Texas says 3 ft and over you have to have a flag on it. Over 4 ft requires Brake Lights and tail Lights at night, Not just a flag. How is the rack still holding up? Its like 4 years later and has it cracked due to not being UV protected?.
Funny story, Last fall, a long tie down strap end flapped loose and when I backed into my drive it got caught under tire pulled hard on the rack and broke a couple joints. I cut apart and got some new elbows and Tees and fixed her right up. Still going strong. PVC has held up well. Just don't store in direct sunlight. thx for comment.
The rack is really a nice design. It looks professionally built. Do you think that to much of the Kayaks are sticking out of your truck ? Is it legal to drive with that much exposed out of your truck tail gate ?
Well they do stick out about 5 ft but i've never been pulled over and had police behind me many times. They say you are supposed to put a red flag on anything that sticks out, but my Hobie is bright yellow so I figure If they can't see that they are already blind.
