I think your DIY skills can reduce the cost of living out in the country by at least 50%. Thank you so much for showing the world you ingenuity. Most people in the younger generations by in large have very poor DIY skills and can learn a lot from you!

I think anyone that'd get bored watching your videos... well you don't need them around anyhow. I like the way you keep things simple. From the project itself to your knowledge and ability to explain it easily. I'm glad that you share your knowledge and the broad range of skills that you possess.

I Thank God for my Dad , that was born in 1912 , for teaching this ol country boy how to make do with whatcha got . You and I come up with a lot of good ideas along the same lines . I threw a contraption together similar to your kayak cart to haul my deerstands down into the woods . Grew up with a 2 seater outhouse , drew water out of a hand dug well , and we all took a bath in a wash tub . We were poor but I didn't realize it until I was grown and had a family of my own . Preciate you for showing people how to survive .

That's a awesome kayak rack for a truck Jeff. Let say the numb feeling that you have in your thumb and index finger I experienced the same thing from almost having frostbite in my right arm and hand. Flipped a car into a creek in the winter time, and the dr said that i was going to have to go to a nerve specialist. The dr told me that we have a brain that can still tell them to function but it was going to take a while for the feeling to return. You'll have to concentrate on using the effected fingers but don't worry about it it'll come back. I'll tell you that it took a long while for feeling to return, but it eventually came back and I have no problems with the arm and fingers today. Just work them and keep using them, most people give up when something like this happens to them. Luckily I am left handed and it was my right arm and hand that was submerged in the ice cold water. The coldest i have ever been was laying in the water before someone got me out of the car.

You have a beautiful family man. Heart of America you guys are. Great work on this rack. Im expecting a call today about a new job because I lost my job due to covid19. It may actually be a blessing in disguise because this new opportunity is in a MUCH more rural area where i am hoping I can reconnect with these outdoor hobbies ive been missing while living in the big city.

It was a lot of fun having you guys down for a quick scalloping trip! I am glad to see the yaks get put to good use too! I look forward to taking you guys flounder gigging next time you come down. Hey, why don’t you make you a rack on top for that big cooler of yours? Make it recessed so the cooler can’t slide out. If you are worried about weight, make it a drop in rack. You won’t always use it, but on longer trips it will be nice. Take care friend.

So not to heal wrong and as you say start having problems with your nerve endings with your fingers. I know how it is to not heal as well as you want to. Jeff that's a great "Free Style" Set up. If you put 4 Eyelets on top. You can just use a hoist under the shed or little winch to pick it up then drive forward and lower it down to the ground. (Just my 2 cents). The winch like you use for processing deer/Hogs is all you need.

Hey man nice kayak rack . Btw those are scupper holes. Actually its the weakest part of the vessel. It may seem convient to anchor that way with a pole but it will eventually sink your boat. Wisest system is the micro power pole or just a simple rope an anchor. Stay safe.

Might want to put a bump stop on the middle rack to keep it from busting your back window out brother. You don’t think it will happen till it does! Someone might steal that setup brother while your deployed somewhere. You may want to make the roller that picks up the rack into something like a counter weighted lift system or a “dolly” for lack of a better word type of design that is separate from the entire setup. Just some ideas my friend. Great job either way👍🏻

I like it. what is cool is you build things for how you will use it and what makes sense for you. I was about to play armchair quarterback and mention a safety to keep top one from sliding through the glass in an accident but.. you already thought of it. I should have expected that. only reason I knew to do that is we had steel pipe leave a factory here and driver stopped suddenly and one of the 5 inch line pipe on his load, slid right through the glass of his semi. lucky it was just to his right and he was not injured.

Pretty neat setup ya got there Jeff. Looks functional but I think I'd try to build a rack to suspend that whole kayak rack from so you could just back up under it, and lower it down into the truck bed. Then when it's time to take 'em off, back the truck up to the rack and crank a chain hoist/harness up to lift it 4" or 5" inches and drive out from under it and just let is hang 'til next time. Maybe you could use your new skinnin' rack for now? :-) My Gpa used to use a system like that to hold his truck cap. Good idea about protecting that rear window... haha

  • @RatdogDRB

Yup, definitely need that "runaway" to keep that top torpedo from breeching the hull (window). LOL. I was going to suggest an 8'x4' stand, same height as the tailgate of the truck and just back up to it and slide the whole affair off the bed onto the stand. If you had side lips to keep it from "yawing" while sliding, then one person could possibly push/pull to load/unload. Strips of teflon screwed to the stand would make sliding "more gooder". Pretty snazzy kayaks there. Love the spud feature too.
