    I thought that said soprano! We needed a sopranino sax for a quartet I play in! That's pretty baller you got to play it.

      Does this instrument is rare?

    • @musicbypedro
      @musicbypedro  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Asthy it's not rare. This is a brand new one and they make the all the time.

    It sounds a little bit like a soprano sax.
    It looks very nice.
    And the high notes are so funny and come so clear.

    • @musicbypedro
      @musicbypedro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      they're astronomically high! It definitely looks like a soprano from a distance, until you get closer :)

  • @lucashoffses9019

    I noticed that it's a lot louder in the lower register (written C#5 or concert E5 or lower) than in the higher register (or when you press the octave key). This is probably the case on a lot of saxophones, but is there a way around this change in sound color at the switching of registers? (I just use alternate fingerings)

    Pedro great video I've always heard good things about the P Mauriat line of Sax's. Like you my roots are in the Alto, now that I own a Yanagisawa SN 981 keyed up to D#/Eb they are a sweet sounding little horns. That PMSS-50SX and you make a great team. What I have learned thus far is the Nino sounds it's best in the second resgester , again great video thank you for sharing and may your reeds always stay wet.

    • @musicbypedro
      @musicbypedro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I've played other horns (Yamaha, and Selmer) but I'm very impressed with the P Mauriat line of horns!

    Wow that's interesting! Hey I'm a huge beginner and I know this has nothing to do with that awesome horn but can I ask how to get past a high c# on alto. I can play the chromatic scale all the way until that note and it's frustrating. Any techniques on how to get higher?

    • @musicbypedro
      @musicbypedro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I play tenor and have trouble with high notes, but use a lot of air and move it fast through the horn. Tenor is big and requires a lot of air support but with alto, high notes should come easier the more you play. Just tighten your embochure and use your top teeth on the mouthpiece if you still have trouble, that always helped with my soprano.

    • @musicbypedro
      @musicbypedro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sunhat Grooves while it is correct, there actually is more back pressure the higher you up in the saxophone family, with the Sopranino having the most. Tightening your embouchure will cause the pitch to go up making you play sharp. "Vocalizing" your notes is the correct approach. Pretending to sing the high notes, without actually singing it.
      I'll be posting a video about this soon so stay tuned! :)

    You should do another review when u have a different mouthpiece and reed, I recommend a yanagisawa mouthpiece and vandoren traditional

    Pedro by some chance do you now which brand and size of mouthpiece and reed P. Mauriant ships whith the PMSS-50SX ?

    • @musicbypedro
      @musicbypedro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      As with pretty much all pro horns, they come with a stock mouthpiece. I don't believe it comes with reeds, as that is a personal preference.

    • @VitoBb1978
      @VitoBb1978 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since it based on the Selmer Super Action 80 Series II Nino, it's a good chance it a Selmer C* style mouthpiece. Thanks aging Pedro :)

      @musicbypedro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      VitoEb1978 no problem, let me know what you end up getting or if you have any questions.

      Pedro I am testing the Yanagisawa Metal # 5 mouthpiece, which really darkens the tone of the Sopranino for me. Testing with Vandoren Blue Box started with the #3 which did fine, just got some #2's which should be easier on my chops :)

    Wow nice saxophone. Pedro is it harder to play than a alto sax.

    • @musicbypedro
      @musicbypedro  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, because it is a higher instrument, it does require you to have a good control of your pitch. However, once you spend some time on the tuner, you'll be in good shape. :)
