So the week of the Minnesota episode, we had a marathon race in Minnesota. Our flight back to Louisiana got delayed until Sunday, so we decided to book tickets to go see Nate. Then, as we are walking up to the theater, he was getting out of the car! We got to say hello, get a fist bump, and of course share a little “hey bear”. Nate was so nice! Thanks for taking time to say hello right before a show!!

First time listener, long time caller.
I grew up in Rochester, MN where the Mayo Clinic was started by a doctor who came to help with injured people after a tornado destroy most of the town, Nun’s helped as nurses, thus the “St. Mary’s” wing at the Mayo Clinic. The doctor who was doctor Mayo, had 2 sons who also became doctors and helped turn the Mayo Clinic into what it is today, leading in new surgeries and techniques to treat people. MayoWood Mansion (where the brothers lived) was visited often as a school field trip. I also learned more about my home state this episode than I knew prior to. Comedic and educational! Lol

Ever since you started doing states I have been waiting for the day you do Minnesota. You can imagine how happy I was this morning to see you show some love to my state. That is, until about halfway through you talking about the land of 11,842 lakes (more than Wisconsin) McDonalds was brought up and I knew the next 20-30 minutes would not be about anything except food. That and name recommendation for Dusty’s kid: Luther
PS thank you for not hitting us too hard on sports, it’s not fun here for that.

When they talked about the NHL team, i thought Brain* was gonna mention how they were called the North Stars, but moved to Dallas and became just the Stars, and then when a new expansion team started up that's when they became the Wild. And in the logo there's still sort of a reference with a "North" Star in the design.

When I listen to podcasts while driving, mowing, or doing dishes, I listen at 1.5 speed with the silence trimmed. That cuts the time in half. However, if I'm grading essays or need to be actively thinking, I have to put it on regular speed.
Great episode on Minnesota. The only thing it was lacking was more talk of the Timberwolves (the subject of many of my other podcasts)
    I'll go proofread this now.

Being a regular customer to the sideshows as a kid, I can relate to getting scammed by certain shows. One was Sandra the Albino Lady who multitasked as a Lady Sword Swallower. I used to come home and imitate the MC to my family. Looking back, those shows were really awful.

So when I was 10 or 11 my family went to visit some relatives in the twin cities for thanksgiving. On Black Friday we got the brilliant idea to go to the mall of America. The place was packed. I don’t remember what caught my attention but I broke off from the pack to look at something. The next thing I know, my family is long gone. I looked for them for what felt like hours. Finally they found me…but I never did get to ride that Snoopy rollercoaster… I had some experience getting left behind. When I was about 6 years old my parents left me at the St. Louis Zoo. They were in separate cars and they both made it home (about a 20 min drive) before they realized I wasn’t with them. A park ranger found me and let me call to have someone pick me up. I think they were just trying to get rid of me, but to no avail - I’m still standing! …middle child problems. Love the show fellas!!

Hearing Dusty talking about the naming of his child, (Congrats Dusty), reminded me of the story of when i was named.
It was 1971 Utah, and at that time, when a baby was born, it was up to the parents to get get the Birth Certificate filled out and sent in to the County Recorder. And it was traditional to wait until the baby had been blessed in church for that name to be recorded.
My name had been decided by my Mother, I was the 9th of 9 children, so I guess it was her turn or something. Anyway, she wanted to give me a strong family name from her side of the family.
Those poor men would likely need thier strength with as often as they would take a beating with names like the verbal atrocity that had been carefully chosen for me.
    "Guy Marvin Barker".
My Father, possibly because he wanted me to survive childhood, hated this name with a white hot passion. He was also a very reserved man and had said nothing to my Mother about it.
It was traditional, in the faith where I was raised, for a newborn to be blessed within a few weeks of it's birth, during weekly church services in front of the whole congregation by his father. At this time the child would be given its name and a general blessing of well-being and good health, etc..
The verbage used in the blessing is structured by Doctrine and leaves very little wiggle room. It basically says, "Lord, here's a baby. We decided to call it this, and please help him or her to not murder people. Amen."
Things were going just swimmingly until my Father got to the part where he says, "The name by which he will be known throughout his life, and in the records of the Church is."
    "Marshall Preston Barker"
At that point, of course, time stopped, all the air was sucked from the building, cows stopped producing milk for miles around in all directions, and, my Mother burned a tiny hole straight through the back of my Father's suit coat and shirt, with her heat vision.
As I understand it, my Dad continued on and finished my blessing, the contents of which are unknown since sound cannot exist in a vacuum.
My father is gone now but he will forever be my hero. For so many, many reasons, but also for changing my name at the last minute so that I didn't have to grow up to be a game show host or Carnival worker.
Thanks to all you guys. Nate you've been at the top of my list of favorite comedians for many years. Aaron, things will get better. Dusty, I (begrudgingly love ya).
However, there will always be a soft spot in my heart for "Baby Bucking Bronco Brian Bates!" Brian, you are awesome, and I swear it's not just my senility that's causing me to say that.
(this is a little bit off topic but in Utah for many many years you didn't actually have to choose a name at any given point there was not a law that required you to choose a name within a certain time period. That's how the Olympic skier, named "Peekaboo Street", got her name. Her parents decided to wait and let her choose her own name. Freaking hippies!)

Wanted to congratulate Aaron on his Comedy Central Stand up Feature. I went and saw Aaron two years ago when he came to Auburn, and he was great. Not to imply I know all that much about standup but I can tell he’s made huge strides between then and this feature. I really enjoyed it. Not only that but a few of my buddies were sending around a TikTok of Aaron’s ymca football bit, who before that clip didn’t know Aaron or this podcast. So Aaron congratulations, and keep on trucking.

Your First Pitch rant made me think of the movie Jerry Maguire, when Cuba Goodings character is trying to get his big break and in what is portrayed as some sort of triumphant moment he gets clobbered trying to make a catch. The stadium is hushed until he stands up, showing he's unhurt, and raises his arms as the entire stadium cheers for him. I never understood why he was so happy about getting cheers for not being injured. To bring it back to the rant, maybe that tik tok-er gets so happy to just get the cheers, even if it wasn't for something that great? Love the podcast!

My son bought a house in Mansfield MO...It used to be a rooming house and a storefront. We found out that it was a place where Laura Ingalls Wilder used to hang out. She also wrote some of her books there. There were lots of photos of her, her dog and her husband along with many documents. Down the street was the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum, which gets 30,000 visitors per year. We made the house into an Airbnb and had several Museum visitors stay there. We learned a lot about LIW! We did eventually sell the house.

I’m loving watching you guys make the connections between the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul and the name of our baseball team (both on the podcast and at Nate’s show in St. Paul on Sunday). 😂 But, wanted you to know that you’re not alone. My husband and I have lived in Minneapolis for over two decades, and when we weren’t both here, one of us lived in St. Paul. Our (relatively bright) kids were born and raised in Minneapolis. We recently made plans to adopt two kittens (litter mates) that the shelter had named Minnie and Paul. We had multiple conversations over several days about what to name them once they were ours. The plan was to keep the name Paul because that’s a hilarious name for a cat (especially a tiny kitten). But, we wanted to change Minnie’s name. While I was talking to my parents about our plans, my dad said, “I suppose they’re named for St. Paul and Minneapolis.”
    😐😲
It took my dad two minutes to figure that out after the four of us had several days. Needless to say, we kept both names.
Fun fact: the players in the Minnesota Twins logo are also named Minnie and Paul. www.mlb.com/news/minnesota-twins-minnie-and-paul-logo-history

I worked 3rd shift PT at UPS in the 90s, and would get home around 4-4:30am - and I remember USA would air reruns of sitcoms in the wee hours and very early mornings. I remember seeing shows like Wings,, and Working w/ Fred Savage, also had the comic Dana Gould and the guy who played Bania on Seinfeld. Also, Fired Up w/ Leah Remini, and Veronica's Closet, News Radio, and I think Suddenly Susan, and some others I can't recall atm.

Bob Dylan, Hibbing MN. Forgot other politician - Al Franken. Don’t forget Louis Anderson. (OK, did at end) Huge spontaneous gathering in Minneapolis when we learned Prince died. We had to be together to crank music, gather at 1st Avenue. All of the buildings and bridges were lit up purple. Come do a show at Mystic Lake Casino. Great shows there and it’s in a suburb. I remember it being a big deal when the Shaw of Iran was in Mayo Clinic.
Fargo & Grumpy Old Men shot in MN.

My husband is completely on board with Nate and Dusty about not sharing food! The funny thing is, for years after we got married, I would eat a few of his french fries when we'd get fast food. (I also had my own, just a smaller order and wanted a couple extra) I never tried to hide this and assumed he was aware and did not mind, until one day when he pointed it out. I guess I was unintentionally sneakier than I thought because it turns out he had NOT noticed before and was shocked to learn that it had been happening for years. We laughed about it but, needless to say, I can no longer help myself to his fries. Now he makes sure to tell me that he is not going to share his food so if I want something I need to get my own

Years ago when I was teaching 6th grade I had a student named Randy Canyon. He came in day 2 and I said RANDY CANYON! That sounds like a great Nascar name. He lit up like a Christmas tree and on Back to School night his mother told me how happy I'd made him.
I love the name convos and vote Henry Richard Slay, Hank for short.
Henry is a name of kings.
    Thanks for all the fun.

Blue Earth Minnesota is home to the Jolly Green Giant ❤️ I had to pull off the interstate and check it out cuz as a kid I thought he was real…and there he was towering over the trees. I initially thought the 70’s had finally caught up to me 😂 You guys are hysterical, and although I am not your typical demographic.. I laugh like Aaron does when Dusty is reading ads.. the show is awesome and I appreciate you all!

Hello guys, I’m very partial to the name Hank. My two year old son is named Hank. I would think it’s super cool if Dusty and his wife chose that. However, I can’t help but feel that Dusty should consider, “Rusty”.
First of all, it rhymes with Dusty.
Furthermore, They can also boldly make it exclusively “Rusty Richard Slay”. Not , Russell, even though that’s not a bad name either. Rusty is perfect.
And finally, it’s “country” like Dusty.
    Love all you guys

I have been in the Propane industry for almost 20 years which means that I literally sell propane and propane accessories so if you want my opinion, I think you should go with Hank.

Mall of America is not the largest mall in the western hemisphere. West Edmonton Mall is bigger.
According to an article from Dec, 2021, "West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, Alberta is North America’s largest enclosed mall with over 800 stores and attractions in 3,800,000 square feet. Mall of America is the largest enclosed mall in the United States with 560 stores and attractions in 2,800,000 square feet."

@@brianbatescomedy I'm a Gen Xer.. I don't know how to alter Wikipedia. LOL. I see that it says it's 11th largest in the world, and I just read that West Ed is #6 in the world. In the article I found, It states that West Ed has remained the largest because every time they hear that Mall of America is adding on, they purposely add on more to make sure they still exceed it.
Perhaps they are using some other metric to call it the largest, like including nearby outdoor related facilities or something.
Just for the record, I hate West Ed with a fiery passion. All it is to me is where I change buses on my way to work. I've lived here for 23 years and I've only been there, maybe, five or six times... including when I'd only go from the entrance to the movie theatre.

When my wife and I had our daughters we spent quite a while figuring out their names. We did blind lists and then compared them to see which names we had in common. I also kept going back looking for middle names where the initials spelled something. Less to say she did not have the same enthusiasm as I did trying to spell some thing with the initials. Neither of our daughters names spell anything.

Where do we send a question to be answered on the podcast?
Question: When you tour in Australia and New Zealand, do you have to change any of your material for them to make it more relatable? For example: Do they have Walmart there? Or other American stores/restaurants?
    Thanks, Robin (Gibsonton FL)

My wife and I were having dinner near the Ordway before the 9:30 pm show on Friday. A young couple sat down at the table next to us and the wife whispered something to her husband. He immediately starting screaming repeatedly "Babe, are you serious?" He then started to tear up and I assumed he had just found out that his wife was pregnant. A few moments later he said "I can't believe you got us tickets to see Bargatze!" (Mark Ingram)
