The closer Spirit descends to face us, the more our wicked nature is reflected and revealed, the more we must humble ourselves ... "And if we do not stop with this" horrible confronting truth then we return with a piece of divine wisdom to remember and share
This can explain why the Israelites could not come close to the mountain when He descended upon it, else they die. Why the mountain thundered and shook which was a reflection of their internal fear ... Only Moses who was more humble than his hard hearted country men could approach without dying. He understood the eternal love of the most high and this was reflected to him
