I’ve only been to a Jehovah’s Witness church once and it was for a funeral of a family member.
Their daughter was a member and that’s why it was there.
It was the most infuriating funeral service I’ve ever been to because the pastor who led the service turned my family member into a Jehovah Witness even though he wasn’t one at all.
Dude even made up an entire fabricated conversation between him and the family member on his death bed and they wanted all of us to know about Jesus’ message of his kingdom and then gave a sermon.
I couldn’t believe it and I get frustrated thinking about it now and this was over a decade ago

11:50 That actually happened to a friend's son this year. I am NOT joking. The question asked in his school was basically "If a classmate was bullied for being gay or trans, would you join the bullies or would you support your classmate?" The question wasn't about whether you would support or not support them, it was specifically about whether you would support or BULLY them. My friend's son said he would bully them, and she was so disappointed in him for making that choice. She also told him that his teacher likely lost all respect for him, too.
Once again, I am not joking. This question was asked in 2024 in a central California middle school.
The videos of teachers discussing how they insert their personal views into the classroom give flashbacks to my JW in-laws.
The in-laws claimed my daughter had asked them something about their religion and took it as an opportunity to witness to her.
It's so shamelessly disrespectful to parents the way they both circumvent parents.
Anyway, it is happening in classrooms and I disapprove.

I'd be disappointed, too, if I was a teacher and a student of mine said they'd bully someone just for being LGBT. There's no reason for a child to be a bigot over homosexuality or transgenderism, something that has no impact on their lives.

Here's something people don't talk about. Paradise is very temporary. After a while, your paradise is now an everyday routine and nothing special about it.

Today my grandfather passed away. I was telling the owner of a local coffee shop who I’m close to about it, and a JW in the shop overheard and tried to recruit me using it. I was so upset I started arguing with her and telling her it was a bad thing to do. Although I feel bad for making a scene I think she deserved to hear it

When I was in 8th grade, there was one other JW kid in my homeroom class but we went to different congregations. The homeroom teacher was so offended that we wouldn't salute the flag that he made us wait out in the hall until the anthem and pledge were finished. It wasn't humiliating AT ALL, I swear. The most emotionally fraught time in a person's life and we were ostracized by a teacher and the school had no problem with it. 🙄 I hated talking about the religion mostly because I thought it was ridiculous and nonsensical, but when your parents are in the cult what can you do? Keep up the good work, Owen. BTW, I'm halfway through your book and it's phenomenal. Thanks for what you do.

When I was in grade school there was a kid who wouldn't say the pledge of allegiance. It wasn't that big a deal. The teacher didn't make a big deal out of it. I vaguely knew it was some religious thing but didn't worry about it.

I live in Australia and frankly, depending on the place, a whole class without homophobia is possible. I don't think Americans fully realise how "unique" is their upbringing. And I don't mean it in a good way...
homophobia is alive and thriving in the usa. the story of the classroom is a total joke. a whole lot of children would have stood against lgbt+ people. it's pretty ugly.

I can't help but laugh at every time they say "Jehovah" because of the almost audible twitch it gives, but also because my brain keeps replacing it with "Jenova" (the alien monster... Thing from Final Fantasy 7).
Which explains why I spent half my life confused after watching FFAC, which is one of the two films out at the time that got me into the series.

That happened at a friend's place, their two cats had kittens within a week of each other & would fight over who'd nurse the babies (I even had to take a kitten away from them once, because they both were pulling on the poor thing, trying to take it away from the other cat & I had to free the poor baby before he got hurt), then they settled into raising them together. It was really sweet. Disturbing at first, but sweet.

You know, the more and more I watch videos covering JWs, the word Jehovah sounds less and less like an actual word.
My wife & I were briefly friends with a couple who lived several houses down our street. We bonded over their goofy Husky who liked to "talk" to people who came by her yard. Turned out, they had a whole menagerie of animals, including a pig. And that's what we bonded over, their pets. Then it came up that they were heading to church one day, & I foolishly asked what denomination: Jehovah's Witness. I further compounded my idiocy & told them I was an atheist. They cut us off cold & refused to ever see us again. All because I wasn't part of their cult.
I guess it could've been worse🙃

As a lesbian.. almost 17 years old . With a Jehovah's witness family... it's hard . They don't know. And the crazy thing is.. at one point.. I was trying to Change myself. It went so far that I tried offing myself. Multiple times.. it didn't work.. after that I met someone... she recently turned 18.. shes a grade higher than i am... she's starting college soon. I'm trying to work and be able to take care of myself and college because I'm preparing to run... she means the world to me... people say I'm young and confused and it's just a phase or wtv... well it's not.. when I turn 18... I'm staying with her... we have each other and that's all that matters to me... if we don't last.... then so be it... but I just want to say that you should never let anybody try to change who you truly are... learn how to embrace it... I'm not saying to run.... I'm just saying.. for me.. it's easier to run away from problems until you're ready to face them.. and I'm not ready to face them... Everytime I've brought up the fact that I don't wanna be in the religion or that I don't believe. they get super mad at me forcing me to be in it anyway

When my mother, and later my father, passed away, several acquaintances gave me religious tracts and a religious book, and asked me about my beliefs regarding the afterlife. I just refused to answer their questions, thanked them because they were my coworkers and I didn't want to be rude, then threw away the tracts and book unread

I made up crushes in junior high because I thought you had to have a crush to be normal. I’m now 34, and some folks still don’t understand (and I’m talking mental health and physical health professionals) when I say I’ve never felt attraction and that the idea of sex actual repulses me…I think my dad has finally accepted that he’s not going to get a son in law from me…but I don’t think he understands that someone can have no attraction whatsoever.

Speaking of backward mindsets, my mother was raised Catholic. ( My grandfather was a parish organist).
She and her brothers and sisters were raised to believe if you werent Catholic, you werent going to heaven when you died, and that they were better than anybody else that wasn't Catholic.
After she went through her little the foray into Evangelical craziness and when she snapped back to reality, she realized all of these thoughts have been so wrong.
i was raised catholic, too, and got the same message. even as a seven year old i thought it was just the catholics trying to keep us in line. i didn't know "propaganda" at the time, but i knew what it was. i didn't believe it. and we were taught divorced people didn't go to heaven and i thought that was malarkey, too. as for bible stories, i'd heard and read fairy stories as a little kid and pretty much took those stories as fairy tales not knowing i'd go to hell for thinking that. If Jehovah is my friend, then why if I make a mistake, I must be shunned? You’re expected to basically disown your child if they make a mistake. What kind of friend is that? To kick your friend out and leave them with nothing?

The way JWs constantly refer to Jehovah as Friend makes him sound like an imaginary friend. The way a kid would say "Bunbury doesn't like that".

Thus completely invalidating other peoples' opinions, beliefs and values. Only Jehovah's feelings matter and if you don't obey JWs, you're evil, no matter how much good you do in the world.

There were some legitimately funny jokes in Veggietales: in the episode about David and Goliath, Larry the Cucumber asks Bob the Tomato what are Philippines (meaning Philistines but mispronounced it) and Bob answers the Phillipines are a group of islands in southeast Asia but that's not important right now and immediately moves forward with the story(I butchered the joke, but you get the idea)
Veggietales did a Star Trek spoof, and it was about accepting others who are different.

There was a JW girl in my class growing up that I thought was nice so I tried to initiate being her friend. She just got really shy and didn't open up at all. The next year she was homeschooled. I understand so much more about that situation now, or how she might have been thinking/feeling

It was probably Yermiyahu, not Jeremiah. Just like Jesus & Joshua were originally Yeshua. J came from languages other than Aramaic.
