I don’t think GameCube games are going to falter to a very cheap price ever, I just can’t see these games becoming worthless in part due to stronger scarcity in comparison to something like the Wii or N64, and because a lot of these games are very strong titles. I can see them dipping a bit but becoming 10-20 bucks a piece? No that seems impossible at this point.
they really should, they weren't worth much a good decade after they came out, I remember cubivore was the most expensive used game at GameStop at $40, it really should be that or less, but speculators have to speculate in every hobby
I feel like GameCube is beginning to come back down in price and lose some of its value, I think in part because it seems like Nintendo are bringing back GC titles to modern platforms, the biggest hit probably was The Thousand Year Door getting remade so I guess people are just holding off and seeing if Nintendo will be bringing back more GameCube games. Super rare stuff like Hyper Grind and Gotcha Force likely are never going back down, though. Unless, of course, we get ports.
@@bernbern309and that’s good. I know we all want to feel special (I know I do) owning “rare” games but it’s nice to know there are multiple ways to play great games while allowing collectors to be able to enjoy collecting our copies without breaking the bank.
I walked into a local GameStop yesterday (SW Connecticut) and asked about retro games. The staff member pointed to the Wii and PS3 games. He also said they have DS and 3DS games behind the counter, but they don't have any way to display them. So he helpfully printed me two lists (yes, printed) so I can take them home for review. You are so lucky you are not in SW CT game hunting.
I have a pretty cool story about Kirby's Air Ride. My wife and I were going to Best Buy a year or so ago and when we were walking in, I saw a wii sticking out of their recycling bin in the entrance. It had 2 OEM memory cards sticking out of it, so of course I grabbed it and took it home. When I plugged it in, it worked perfectly and also had Kirby's Air Ride still in it. Pretty weird way to find it for free, but still cool to find.
Good job on getting Punch-Out!! It’s a great game. You don’t need the balance board, you can just play it with the Wiimote & nunchuk. Heck, you can just play it with the Wiimote sideways.
They’re not rare. There were 100s of thousands of copies made. Sought after, yes. Rare, not so much. I always use this example as a rare game versus “sought after”. Tecmo Super Bowl 2 on SNES and Sega Genesis is a rare game. Only 10,000 copies made and it’s very hard to find them complete in box. Chrono trigger is sought after. Literally a million pressed carts exist but people hang onto it because it’s sought after and a great game.
I think it depends on what state you live in. The Midwest barely gets “cream of the crop” titles but recently the one by my house took in sky’s of Arcadia for GC
I dont think Gamestop will have as big of an impact on the market as some might think. Some of the games people are looking for sell online 20-30 copies daily, maybe more (ebay recent solds by date) Gamestop is not getting trade ins to meet that kind of demand. Maybe a slight impact on the market if at all.
it is man, these prices are kept afloat by TH-camrs and speculators and their fairytales of "it's rare because it came out at the. end of the console's lifecycle!", so God of War 2 is a super rare game they didn't make a lot if copies of then? these guys don't even know the real production numbers
Yes, Ebayers would have you believe that Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 are RARE. Any time I see "rare" on an Ebay listing, I just keep scrolling.
Last comment. Game prices literally don’t make any sense sometimes. EGG is a very solid RPG that is harder to find than skies yet it commands a lower price even though it’s locked to the Dreamcast. Skies on the other hand was released on two consoles and is much less rare because of this yet both versions command a higher price than EGG. I see listings for skies all of the time on eBay. I don’t see many listings for the US copy of EGG Hardcore DC fans played EGG while most casuals didn’t just like most hardcore Saturn fans have played legend of oasis while the casuals didn’t. They’re more obscure and don’t get talked about as often and so the price never really goes up despite them being more rare than some of the more talked about games
Very interesting, hmmm I sold my GameCube because I had three of them but now I will regroup all the old stash of Sony stuff and see what still works, hopefully my ps3 consoles don’t have death lights😢
I saw there are bootleg complete ps2 games on AliExpress, it would be cool if they were indistinguishable from the original, I collected most of them before they exploded in price because of TH-camrs and their fucking top ten lists, there's still a few I would want they've got bootlegs of it's silly the official sources can't just have a steady supply of frickin DVDs or CDs in this day and age without it being some LRG hypebeast bologna
I’ll say this. GC prices have been inflated for years now due to false scarcity and the Nintendo tax. Kirby air ride sold about 750k in the US and power stone sold about 200k in the US yet both are about $80. Most GC games aren’t as rare as people make them out to be especially compared to DC, Wii U, and Sega consoles in general aside from the genesis. Most people during 2020 got into collecting because there was nothing else to do and I think a lot of people have been getting out of the hobby since they weren’t truly into it. Because of this that’s why I think GameStop has been having more retro games these days because they’re trading them in. People mostly hunted GameCube because of nostalgia(even though only a little over 20 million had a GameCube but whatever) and so that’s what’s mostly getting traded in. I haven’t spotted a single DC,Genesis/32x/CD, neo geo, TG16, or PS1 games at GameStop. I have spotted 1 Saturn game( Daytona usa CCE disk only), 3 Xbox games, countless n64,GC,wii,wii u, snes, and nes games along with ps2,ps3,360, and obviously newer games. It really shows what people prioritized. Also I think the hardcore sega collectors weren’t letting anything go
Overall sales of a game is just one of many factors that impact price. Probably the main factor is desirability and demand. If its desirable, the price is high. Pokemon games sell millions but they are among the most pricey retro games and trending higher.
@@mannaman00 this is 100% true. My point is that the tax on a lot of “rare” GameCube games was just people trying to make a buck. Yes some games actually are rare but I feel like a lot of people have labeled GameCube games as a whole as rare and there for the price is higher vs actual rare games. GC prices are higher because they’re desirable not because they’re rare. I think a lot of people masked the desirability price by saying it’s rare when it’s really not rare at all just common to uncommon.
i wouldn't exactly call those rare. More in the moderately rare but highly desirable sort of range. With the exception of Metroid prime with bonus disc. There is certainly a lot of other more noteworthy games in terms of being called truely rare for any of those platforms. Desirability for most games on any console is up significantly from the past several years or so. Gaming has become more popular as a hobby (save for the modern era) and is thus being hunted for by more people for one reason or another. Try them on any compatible system (especially the one that gives the lest issues and fuss to run), If its scratched you can get them resurfaced (professionally), if its cracked then that damage is too far gone to repair (can't do much about that that i know of depending upon how far it goes and from which side (if its small and in the inner ring but not at the data maybe the plastic can be melted a bit to fix it or something as a idea)
to think that kirby game was 20 dollars new and now its going for 60 dollars. Pure insanity. BTW Mario Kart Double Dash is boring. I never liked it when it was new.

They did this to me at one of my local gamestops lol.
I found Kirby air ride at a flea market 3 years ago for $2. Talk about a lucky day. It was missing a manual but for $2 you can’t complain.

I haven't really seen a decent Gamecube pickup in weeks so I can't say much on current price trends.
Their not rare I see these games everywhere I go it’s ebay sellers that say their rare games to try to make you pay more money that’s their excuse

Im in orlando/kissimmee area and theres like 2 gamestops that have a handful of ps3 and wii u games. I have never seen any games for older systems.
