That would seem to be the logical way to do this, but I think he is interested in free heat and selling his little project rather than being worried about environmental factors. I would have another bucket under the drain area, pre-filled with the manure and paper so as the water drains, it fills the next batch. Things that make you go hmmmmm Huh?? Ha haha. :-)

By the way, search as I may, I find no expositories on your handling of manure. Us city boys wonder-do you pre dry it? How dry? Mix any thing with it? How about a 3 min. vid?? Way to go!

What kind of ways could the water be reused? I'm sure it could be reused to soften more paper, but with the inks and other chemicals from the paper you're softening... would it still be safe for other uses, like gardening or... I don't know. Or, what kinds of things should be avoided doing with recycled water from this process?

I know this is a 12 year old comment, but I'll answer this myself. It's okay to use the water for gardening just don't use on delicate plants. Rule of thumb if it can't be transplanted easily or foods that DONT continuously FRUIT- don't use the water on those plants. Use it with hearty resistant plants if you're worried. You can use paper , cardboard various papers for this, but more importantly than the ink you want to use as basic of paper as possible. What I mean by basic no laminated sides, no tapes, plastics , rubbers, etc. on it. Like the ads that come in the mail that have that slick texture- not a good option. I mainly use brown cardboard, butcher paper, painting paper (usually the same as butcher just white/bleached), newspaper or grocery store ads that are like newspaper. Also can use sawdust and wood shavings.
I don't use horse manure but I do use rabbit and goat manure. I'm sure you could make these with many other manure types as well. Good luck 12 years later but better late than never.
P.s have you tried this in the last 12 years by chance? Always curious when I reply to old comments like this.

Nice mechanical design! Have you ever toyed with a combination of ingrediants? Say manure, paper and corn cobs? Or say Manure, corn cobs and waste hay? would sawdust be in line at all? Nice going friend.

Where's the electric motor at? Cut a piece of 4" PVC length wise and hook it to a 4" pipe so your excess water can run away from where you are working?
