    I’ve watched tile coach videos so much, that I’m going to attempt this, as a female who has never done this before I’m up for the challenge.
    I’ve got my whole bathroom to the studs and I’m ready to try this. Wish me luck, patience is a virtue. I’m OCD when it comes to stuff like this so I won’t rush it. Great video

    Great job teaching the younger guys! I was taught to pack the cement in hard like Devin was doing when you said he was doing it to hard. Then the mud is removed with a Wooden straight edge (1×4) similar to your metal edges (multipal sizes) around the perimeter in a figure 8 motion to make your screed point which ends up alot wider than the thickness of the level he just beat on. IT is harder for the screed point to disapear because it was packed realy hard. Your Screed point ends up the width of your "darby" . You can then fine tune the screed point with the Darby because you made the screed point wide enough for the darby to fit. Then you fill in center of the pan area pack that just as hard and remove the excess using the Wooden straight edges like a scrapper from the drain to the wide screed points around the shower. You also cut the screed point back to get this flat point you made closer to the wall will removing the center. I like to use a swing pool trowel for a smooth trowel finish once all the screeding and darby work is complete.
    The only time we ever lightly packed the mud was when we would install the tile the same day then the tile and mud would get the "beat down" with a wooden beating block once the tile was set on the wet mud. Beating you tools into submission is wrong in my eyes especialy a level!

    I just wanna say I love that you say it’s important to teach and educate your helpers who can progress and have that motivation to learn a trade. I’ve been tiling for about a little over a year and worked for a company who pushed me to my limit in a negative way without any real training and makes me appreciate your patience and attention to proper training with your employees. Tile coach you’ve helped me so much in my research and proper installation processes and I can’t thank you enough for doing the right thing and guiding me to excellence in the tile setting trade. Keep up the informative videos and I wish you the best!

    Fear is stronger than caring for most people. Most bosses, managers etc. are simply afraid that if they teach you, you might become better than them. They fail to realize that if they don't teach and encourage their employees and something goes wrong with them illness etc. then the business can lose money, client or even shut down. I believe one of the key parts of having a successful business is a solid team. Keep teaching my man and your name will live on.

  • @jammts1
    @jammts1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Johnny Woods outa forth Worth Texas, hope you didn’t glue that drain yet, you need to pull it out, put thinset under & at the same time put the PCs glue on pipe, the mud won’t bond to plastics will hold it in place but you need some actual adhesion to make the tile not break looses a few months down the line, then skim around the drain & drop off around the skimmer before tile install especially if it’s a small sheet-mounted tile or stone

And what product are you using for it? Some of your other pan videos, i dont remember this step. Does it depend on what material the subfloor is? Lucky Devin! Sure wish I could find a quality helper who wants to learn the trade....
    FWIW, I like to make my measurements (calculating my slope) and then draw a line on the walls, before applying the slurry coat. Then when I start to pack my "deck mud" (I really like mapei 4 to 1) along the perimeter, I can just get it right up to the line.....then check it and fine tune with my levels later...

    Why wouldn’t you first lay down batons around the walls at the right height as a reference and then build up the mud? That should go quite easy. And then take out the batons and fill up the cavity.
    Just curious to know where it would go wrong. (Probably at the last step)
