- Everyone has a dream car; an end-goal for their project. And we often get to drive some of those builds, as their owners work painstakingly to bring them to fruition. But very rarely do we have the chance to see a build which has been... completed. Totally realized in the mind of the owner.
Chuck has spent years dialing his Subaru Legacy Spec B in to the specific requirements he had for it when he began building it. And the result is a polished, well-rounded car which feels unique in every regard.

The sound this Legacy makes when it spools is just out of this world! On a side note, great review, awesome editing, and perfect choice of background music!
I drive a 2009 Legacy as well, and I don't love the look of them most of the time, but hats off to this guy because this is definitely the best looking one I've ever seen, by far.

It's not the turbo surging and breaking bearings at all.
"Its fully built, forged pistons" but he's still worried about OEM problems. You've spent 20-30 grand on performance mods and still can't figure out the difference between forged and cast. It would be nice to be the guy buying the car from him.

Yeah, shouldn't be resonating open/closed like that... would hate to see the pressure spikes during that resonation.

My first car was a legacy, unfortunately wasn't a GT or a Spec B but was still a lot of fun. I'd love to return to the legacy platform one day and build one up, fantastic cars.

Jesse Caudill They only made 13 of them for 09 in red, and it was an 09 only color. Same goes for white, which they made 16 of (like mine!). Do you still have it?

That's the open wastegate mixed with the unequal length headers of a boxer motor. Produced a very unique, kind of guttural sound.

I feel a lot of people don't realize that they will have to rebuilt a "built motor" in 50K or so thousand miles at least those running 2618 pistons because they just don't have the longevity. Nice build! But your save your pennies for that rebuild! Also he's put all that time into it forged internals ect and now he is just selling it? And the ringland issue is blown way out of proportion, crappy tunes & bad drivers are more so the cause of those issues. Bad drivers will never admit they drive bad therefore they blame the maker..
True, but yea he's essentially completed the build that he set out to do. There's nothing left that he wants to do to it. His block is also good for like 800whp but he's only running 400 for reliability. Doesn't change that fact that you're still nervous so you'll check the oil every day.
I hear yah, and yes I will fully admit the checking of the oil! But it's a small price to pay in my book, I just love these cars they have a lot personality compared to other brands IMHO.
He just needs to replace the valve-cover gaskets & spark plug seals and then replace the oil-cooler gasket and add a Crawford heated oil catch can and the oil loss issues should be solved..
Always love Leggie (Legacy)....no matter what form. Good work on the machine bro, it looks great too. I would prefer it as a wagon though; only if the Fuji Heavy Industries had made the Spec-Bs in wagons too.....😞

I'm guessing the turbo is too big if he is only making 400whp and spoils at 4k+. beautiful car though... just needs a little tweaking and it would be crazy. in the age of the internet, 400whp doesn't sound like a lot but that's a solid number for a daily. I had a 435bhp gti and it was a blast. you get use to it eventually but its not slow by any means.
Here's my super-car that I had made in my spare time, I keep this flimsy, uncomfortable foldable chair with a stubbie holder in the back so I can get out of my car on Friday nights at the local hoon spot, usually a disused parking lot by the sea where all my mates hang out, and I just sit in my chair and wait for people to ask me about my car. It cost me like $5, no, not the car, the chair, the car cost me THOUSANDS.
I own a 05' STi i call it a sti in a buisness suit very nice....con: either way whatever people say compressor surge/open waste gate....i never heard another car make that sound dont no what "modification" but it's the only thing i don't like otherwise so freshh!
my turbo forester - turbo starts pushing at 1,800 pm and run`s all the way to 8,200 rpm ej207 spec C . = 5,400 of playing fun range .

Must have the electronic boost control (solenoid) from grimmspeed. That ewg flutter is so much more obnoxious than a vacuum operated mbc.

Holy fuck the comments, the waste gate is being pulsed by the 3 port EBCS. Yeah, it's weird. And no, its not because of an EWG, the EWG just makes it more obvious. You can still hear it with an IWG turbo inside the car.
I love this channel, but I do feel like the review was a bit bias towards the car and I didn't feel like there were enough cons or compromises mentioned. But either way great quality and good reivew!

si drive DOES NOT have 3 modes of boost, it has 2 modes of boost with s# having the same boost as the S mode but with quicker throttle response
However, with Chuck having a custom tune, he's repurposed the 3 modes to control boost, with sport# allowing more boost than Sport.
