I really appreciate the time you punt into making the film about traveling to Guatemala, One thing I wan to point out is that people think that Guatemalans speak Spanish but that is not true. I know many of you will say that locals speak Spanish but technically local Guatemalans speak Castellano which is very similar to Spanish and every word we said has a (Tilden)

We really considered Guatemala for retirement, but in the end, we went with Mexico. Not that my entire family have not had our share of fun and adventure there. We sent our Son there at 16 for refresher classes for his Spanish, and all of us love Tikal so much. Amazing country and thanks for showing others about this great country.

@@JoeSpinstheGlobe Last time I was in Guatemala, I bought a really neat weaved bag in the market place. One of those ones that will last for a generation if cared for well. I loved it, but as soon as we got back into the car, we realized a problem. It smelled of wood smoke so strongly I had to keep it outside that first night before I could secure a sturdy plastic bag to keep it in. Back home, it became useable after several washes in my washing machine. Still use it to this day. 2005 to now! It has not even lost its color. Also, no morning activities started until after a visit to Dona Luisa's for breakfast. I can taste the Granola. Great video. Thanks. Sending you warmth and good wishes from Motul, Yucatan, MX. Just outside of Merida.

Thank you for this video. I fell in love with Guatemala all over again just watching it. However - I disagree! Don't skip Tikal!! If you are short on time - you can fly to Flores from Belize City. It is cheap and an amazing experience all on it's own. :) And when you go to Tikal spend at least one night in the juggle. So worth it. Happy adventuring everyone!

    • @JoeSpinstheGlobe

I agree it's an amazing place, I was only trying to say it may be the biggest attraction that's least unique to Guatemala, but that's my opinion (someone could argue El Paredon is not that unique and they would not be wrong).

If you are not in the country for history research then you are better off without the Capital. By the way your chances of finding a local who knows English are far better in Guatemala City and Antigua

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your opinion! Although it sounds like you *want* to be accepting of the way other people travel by saying "to each their own" and you're not here to criticize, you can't resist pretentiously describing how you think your MO for travel is superior. I guess I would say keep going with your personal growth in this area, because it sounds like you're 50% there.
