The Brady Bunch House - Construction Completed! - Long Version - May 23, 24 & June 12, 2019

  • Welcome to the LONG VERSION of the final and most spectacular installment of this series! Thanks to Entertainment Tonight, USA Today and Good Morning America, we get a spectacular look inside with the Bradys and get their reactions to this incredible project.
In 2018, HGTV paid 3.5 million dollars for the "real" Brady Bunch house located in Studio City, California. Day and night exteriors of the front of the house were used to match the fictional interiors on stage 5 at Paramount Studios in Hollywood.
If you study the real exterior and the fake interior you'll notice that the 2nd story or split level do not match. That's not stopping HGTV, who says they plan to remodel the house in Studio City so that the interior, which looks nothing like it's fictional counterpart, matches the sets as close as possible. They are going to need a lot of wood paneling and burnt orange Formica!
The real excitement is that HGTV reunited all 6 Brady "kids" for their new show, A Very Brady Renovation. This latest Brady Bunch incarnation will premier in September 2019 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the original Brady Bunch show debut.
The big question is, who is going to live in the Brady Bunch House? I think we are going to see a 2nd series who's premise is to answer that very question.

I remember there were a second set of stairs leading to the attic that Marsha and Greg fought over in a episode. Funny when I was a kid, it never occurred to me when I looked at the outside shots of the house, that there was no place that attic could fit.

Crazy classic show but wow! In the mid 70's they would pump and pump RERUNS of everything in those days. We only had like 6 channels and you might get pissed getting a UHF signal kicking the tv a few times. This show did get more popular like some fine wine that you would respect in the early 80's. Yup that was when I loved this show way after it was off the air. I never had known it was that old then at 6 years old!

That location at 11222 Dilling Street intersects with Klump Ave, just to the west and almost directly across from the house. Klump was the first street I lived on... as an infant!
CBS Radford Studios is about 3K' directly west, where my dad was working on "Get Smart" when the BB was in production at Paramount, where he later worked as a Key Grip on "TaxI" with Danny Devito & would spar with Tony Danza during breaks.

Even watching that show as a kid, my favorite part was always when they showed those stairs. Those floating stairs like that are so badass and modern looking!! Wasn’t the dad supposed to be like some kind of architect or something? That would have been cool in one of the episodes he could have told a story to the kids about how he designed the house and how the builder tried to talk him out of the stairs, saying it can’t be done. But say kids, it just goes to show you what you can accomplish if you just persevere and stick to your dreams, and don’t give up. Or some kind of fatherly advice like that. Hahahahaha

On the market for $1.8 and sold for $3.5MM? Something tells me that the sellers saw HGTV coming. In my hometown, this house would sell for about $60K. Small rural town prices. But, where I live now, probably $270K. Talk about gouging!
I did mention on another video that it seemed impossible to fit the interior into the exterior shell. Never thought about them digging down, which actually makes sense since on the set, you do step down from the foyer into the living room.
I actually saw every episode's first run as a kid. Suffice it to say, I'm old. Brings back memories of a simpler time when entertainment didn't depend on profanity, sex and constant violence. Men were men and women were damn glad of it. The show went on the air the same year America set foot on the moon. Back then, astronauts, soldiers, police and firemen were rock stars. Today, it's all about Hollywood and fake "reality shows". I'd go back in a second and wouldn't miss my cell phone one bit. We got by just fine without the evils of today.
I'm wondering if this is going to set off a TV home renovation trend. What's famous/iconic TV home is next? Just hope the cost to buy the exteriors doesn't go up.

    • @jtrain5615
      @jtrain5615 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I'm thankful for growing up in the 1960s/70s when it was a time of innocence and common sense we didn't have to deal with all this contention/division fueled by the media polticians and social media that obsess over skin colour and gender identity and what pronouns to use.

Really top notch except for ONE thing, those covers of the day beds in the family room just aren't right! I used to have bedspreads which were similar and they were much more of a woven, rough-type fabric, popular in the 70s. But really everything else is so wonderful! The renovation shows, and the 'Behind' shows, made me cry more than once. I just don't know when I've enjoyed a TV show more!

Not to freak anyone out but most people under 30 never seen Brady Bunch. Just like anyone under 50 doesn't know what Family Affair is. The internet, streaming and a million channels did away with rerun syndication we all grew up watching. Even two 12 year olds might not share the same touch stone pop culture references as one watched Nickelodeon and the other Disney.

Its funny, the inside of the house you see shows the stairway going upstairs is of the the right of the front door. Well, when ever the kids went up there, they always went off to the right to go to the bed rooms. That wouold put them in the attic. Also, I hope this house has toilets.

It's really sad that Florence Henderson, Robert Reed, and Ann Davis aren't alive to see this. It's an amazing gift to see this re-created so perfectly.

If Florence Henderson, Robert Reed and Ann Davis were alive to be part of this anniversary they may of wanted to be part of the renovation project and speak about how after so many years the Brady bunch delighted and entertained so many people.

It would be cool, but unfortunately, it’s never going to happen. The best you could hope for, is somebody making it into an Airbnb. But I doubt they would do that, because it would be too much wear and tear. The neighborhood is a pretty well off neighborhood and they already are on edge about all of the people who stop by to take pictures. if it were a museum, it would be 100 times worse. Not to mention, there’s no parking for anything like that there. They would have to buy the adjoining properties and knock them down to do so and I doubt the neighbors are going to be very happy about that. not to mention, zoning would never allow it.
That entire neighborhood is a Giant filming location... Meaning that, a lot has been filmed within a 5 mile radius of that house. A lot of houses in that neighborhood have been used in different productions. Now imagine if you were the owners of that house and people were stopping by taking pictures in front of it all the time. It is why they originally put the fence up before it got sold to HGTV. Then they removed the fence. Somebody won the house and then sold it and the new owners I’m sure are concerned about overzealous fans. It’s one thing to stand on the street and the sidewalk to take pictures, though there’s going to be some people who want to push it. By knocking on the door or ringing the doorbell to ask to come inside.
Which I’m sure has happened or more than one occasion. you also have to understand that whoever bought it spent a lot of money for it. From what I understand, it was north of $3 million. Which is crazy. That house, in my area of Maryland or central PA, would be worth $200,000-$300,000. Possibly a little more, but not too much more. But that is California for you. Take the normal price that people would pay for a house anywhere else and multiply it by 10 times.

What great times, watching the Brady Bunch after school. Shows like this portrayed togetherness, politeness. It's so sad shows like can't exist today. But people today are so violent and disconnected from each other. No cell phones no computer's. Great days for many that watched shows like the Brady Bunch. Thank You Greg Marsha, Peter, Jan, Bobby, and Cindy plus Mom, Dad and Alice

So well said Bb! In fact, it was so wholesome & just outright “good” in terms of behavior that I put this show, Leave It To Beaver, Andy Griffith, etc., on TV for my daughter as she grew up. Everything these shows embodied such as manners, honesty, talking without swearing, are what I wanted my daughter to be influenced by.
