    Side note, I find hornworms incredibly pretty

    For those who are in Florida or any state/country Dubias are illegal, there’s an alternative. It’s called Discoid Roaches, they basically hold the same value of nutrition that Dubias have. Usually you’ll a only find them in reptile shops or from local feeder breeders.

    I haven't watched any of this vid yet, but I'm normally a fish dude(Got a pond, tropical planted, and reef tank) and I also love crabs too(planning about two tanks for some hermits and others crabbies). But I used to be a lizard guy too! Kinda want to get another Water Dragon, but I saw your video on the Pacman frog. And lol I think I fell in love with that dude. My leopard gecko started rejecting dubia roaches so I'm going to have to try crickets even though I hate them. She loves superworms, mealworms, and hornworms. I tried the calci-worms once but she didn't like them. She just took it in her mouth and instantly spit it out. I haven't tried wax works because she honestly seems addicted to superworms and I know if I gave her a wax worm she would refuse everything 😂

      @reptiliangarden  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you think it would be bad to feed live meal worms to a bearded dragon if they are already used to eating freeze dried meal worms. I am baby sitting a beardy through this whole virus thing and her owner only feeds her freeze dried meal worms. I ordered her some live crickets and mealworms and a bunch of veggies so she could have a healthier diet while staying with me. I was wondering if you think it would be a problem to feed them to her.

    I’m wanting to start an insect colony for my bearded dragons to save money. Which insects are the easiest to keep/breed? I don’t want crickets or mealworms because they smell like shit and aren’t as easy to feed on the regular because of their exoskeletons. I love your channel by the way. You’ve actually made me revisit my interest in reptiles and how awesome they are.

      @reptiliangarden  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Billybloodyhell Absolutely Dubia roaches all the way! They just need a container, egg cartons, and toss some veggies in there. They don’t smell at all. They don’t die off, and they breed like crazy. Also, very nutritious and beardies love em!

      @@reptiliangarden I'll second that. I have a blue tongue skink, bearded dragon and a savannah monitor. I am a few weeks into breeding insects and I use crickets, meal worms, and dubia roaches. 100% dubia roaches. they are insanely simple. Reptilian Garden nailed it. Container, any hide (egg cartons and toilet paper rolls are easiest to acquire), and fruits and veggies. I have head that oranges make the roaches go crazy wink wink ;) and they eat pretty much whatever you throw in for them. I'm looking for another nutritious insect to breed as a feeder because i feel like those 3 are dull. Thinking of hornworms, superworms, and maybe other types of roaches.

    2 of my cresties love crickets and waxworms the other 3 don't care for insects ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ then again i don't think they like the taste i think they like to hunt. But i buy insects from petstore should i still gutload?

    • @bethieelle422
      @bethieelle422 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No matter where you buy insects, even if you breed them yourself, they must be gutloaded otherwise they aren't as nutritious. It's easy to do, though - just provide some fruit/veg for them and you can also feed ground up cat food. My insects have constant access to cat food & 48 hrs before feeding to any of my animals they get fruit & veg. :)

      @reptiliangarden  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alycia Michelove I am not too familiar with gout, but from what I’ve heard it seems it is caused if you feed too much of one thing. It’s another reason why variety is so important, as well as gut loading. Dubias shouldn’t be dangerous to beardies as long as they are still getting a full various diet of leafy greens, veggies, and other insects as well.

    Guy gave me full bag of EVERY species in deli cups and smaller containers barring any type roaches, meal worms,,(any type) and two flightless fruit flies free! He was very cool! The horn worms are bright blue and attractive. Is central source for raising all types in easiest fashions like pros, don’t even have insectivorous pet, like to raise exotic rare animals outside with similar conditions to native home. Wish knew what could thrive, and set up colonies. Just for fun of it, especially if endangered. Does anyone know site for feeding inexpensively insects, and where could find list of animals that might thrive in S.W Florida, besides invasive? Don’t want to disappoint nephew’s interest, in hobby, thanks!

      GewfyBaken I mixed up the words. Chitin is what the exoskeletons are made out of, but keratin is actually what our nails and hair are made out of 😅😂

    Crickets dont freak me out. Dubias freak me out. I know they're clean, but they're still a cockroach and that freaks me.
