The pixel needs 8a, 8 pro and 8 pro max. It's annoying you have to use a huge phone to get the best features.
Its sad that google can slap a thermometer in pixel 8 pro, which nobody wanted or asked for, but they are not interested to acomodate a SD card slot. These companies stripping away popular features like headphone jack or sd card slot, makes me look toward sony xperia 1 v. If sony promised 5years of software n security, i would buy it at any price at all.
Please compare google pixel 8 pro, vs sony experia 1 v, vs samsung s23 ulta, in terms of user experience, UI, in hand feel, features, battery drain time, thermal management, and value for money. I ll buy one of these 3.

I think I'm going to go for the Pixel 8. I'm a photographer. For serious missions I take my normal photography gear. The smartphone is for when I'm off-duty with no particular project in mind and I do snapshots. No need for the extra lens and features of the 8 Pro which is too big anyway. Currently I have a Samsung S20FE which I'm happy with most of the time but the colours are sometimes too saturated
Prefer the 8 side over the 8 Pro size. But agreed, 6.2 Standard, 6.2 Pro and 6.7 Pro
I am sooo so happy the era of curved edges and "infinity screens" are seemingly coming to an end. It was a horrible idea that added absolutely zero function, it just looked cool in the promotional materials.
The curved shape also forces you to buy a case unless you want to constantly accidentally activate the touchscreen with your thumb and palm, making web browsing actually the most annoying thing ever.
I only realized I hate curved edges after having my note10+ for 2 years because I decided to use it without a case for the last couple weeks before my new phone arrived. I just always assumed you buy a case when you buy a phone but it's actually so unnecessary, especially if the phone has good enough natural grip.

I went from a Samsung S20 plus to the Pixel 8. I dont think the curved screen is that bad, but switching back to a flat screen, I definitely prefer it more now. I returned my Pixel 8 due to the battery life on mine being pretty bad. I got the Pixel 8 Pro and its been much better all around, longer lasting battery, better camera, screen, etc.
It's so disappointing that Google is artificially limiting certain software features to the Pro model.
That's such an Apple thing to do.
Samsung does the same as well, get on them too. S23 - S23 Ultra
If Apple does it and people still buy the new iPhone then no reason for other companies to not do it too. We could all just not buy a new phone one year to really send a message. I think almost everyone who has a phone could put off buying the new phone for one year, even those that have a 6-year-old phone, what's another year waiting to send a message to all these companies?
I just wish Google would make a small "Pro" phone like Apple does. I absolutely don't want a large phone and ideally the same size as my Pixel 5 or so. I would pay the same for a smaller phone with the same features as the oversized Pro. Looks like I'm going S23 or Zenfone 10 to replace my Pixel 5 now, esp. with all the artificial limitations they put on the Pixel 8, where half the Pro features don't need any additional hardware. The "Pro" camera app/features have apparently been ported to the older Pixel phones where you can just side-load it, lol.

P8 is not that far away from S23, but if you are a fan of Iphone mini like phones, then oh boy, you have no choice really.
6.2 is fairly small in comparison, otherwise zenfone 10
@@jokast8861 S23 for it's smaller size and more powerful and efficient SoC (and therefore better battery life with a smaller battery and faster charging times).
6:00 - iPhone 6S got its most recent security patch update on 11 Sept 2023 - that's 8 years since release. Last feature update was Sept 2022 - 7 years. iPhone 5S received security updates for 9.5 years
Well is iOS 17 available for iPhone X ? which was released 6 years ago so techinically 5 years of OS support for X

@@saidinesh898 I don't think you understood my first post? iPhone X (2017 release) latest security update: September 21, 2023. It runs iOS 16.7 so while there will be no further feature updates, security updates should continue. Typically Apple has been providing security updates for 3 years after the last OS update.
Otherwise, S7 Edge still receives security updates 🤷🏽♂️
@@rolins3279 No - I have the Samsung S9 - that stopped getting security updates after. 4 years. The newer Samsungs go to 5 years (with 4 of those feature / OS updates
Great review and thank you for not focusing on the camera for most of it. The other features and specs are what are most important for me. After your review, I may now go for the * and not the 8 Pro. It should be just fine for me.
I got the Pixel 8 in hazel. It feels like a premium upgraded version of my Pixel 5a. I had a P6 Pro and it feels like a completely different phone. The build quality and weight of the phone are reminiscent of iPhone in some ways.
Is it a good upgrade from the 6 pro? I'm thinking about getting the normal 8 but I know I'll miss the telephoto lens from my 6 pro
@@josephschorr7832 the 8 feels really small to me compared to the 6 Pro, it feels like my 5a which I also thought was much smaller feeling. If you don't mind the screen size, I would suggest upgrading. I see a noticable difference in brightness and the Android 14 feels incredibly fluid. The camera I have not tested so far tbh. I am personally very happy with the Pixel 8 and like the small sized form factor.
Any particular reason for.not considering s23?? I am bit confused between s23 and pixel 8
@@asd77691 I like the Google and Android 14 fluidity is the main reason and I have had issues with Samsung before, a long time ago, so I do not trust them as much personally. I used to have a Galaxy Note 5 and it had a lot of issues, I do not trust the build quality and longevity as much with Samsung still. That is my personal opinion and experience.
I quit Samsung many years ago because of their bloatware. Idk if they still load phones up with a bunch of crappy apps you can't get rid of, but that always annoyed me. Also they were slower than their hardware should have been. Samsung feels like the Dell of phones to me. @@asd77691
Mobile phone is mainly for used for taking the phone in our hand or pocket. Only pixel 8 will comply. I prefer only p8 will be good which is handy and good features. If anybody want pro modes they can buy a good dslr camera
I just upgraded to the 8 pro from the 6. Night and day performance difference but it's becoming seamless like switching iPhones. Ready to test more performance
How are you finding the size difference?
I have a s21, have played with the 6 a lot. Love the 6 when I'm not at work but it still is a pretty big phone. Curious to know as well whether the size feels any bigger? Does it feel better than a 6 despite the size increase? The 6 is a very heavy square feeling, couldn't get the 8P off the stand at best buy today to check it out....
Keeping my 5 until Google figures out how to make something that size again.

I decided to buy the Pixel 8. I was switching from the almost flagship Xiaomi 12X. The reason for me was mainly the long-term software support from Google, more storage and a better camera (mainly for shooting videos). I quickly got used to the faithful rendering of the colors of the Pixel photos, and the Xiaomi photos seem really oversaturated and lacking in detail. Despite the higher price tag, I would go for the Pixel 8 Pro, but I can't stand its size.

Problem is the main features that the Pro seems to have are just software based and the fact they have the same processor makes me feel like it's a pretty gross money grab. 😬
Ultimately I chose the Pixel 8 in Hazel because of the size. I have carpal tunnel and the larger phones are harder to hold. As much as i wanted the pro for the camera properties, i couldn't justify it.
I've gone for the Pro. This will be my first Pixel phone and I wanted to go all in but I really like the 8 and it's close to the size of phone I prefer. I think in future Google should try to do an 8 sized phone with the pro specs, that would be my ideal phone. I tend to upgrade every 3 years or so.
I'm hoping Google won't disappoint but I'm coming from an old Sony Xperia 5iii so I can't see that being an issue.
Definitely agree cause I rather the extra camera memory ram and extra battery boost that can support those software updates
@@tychan2788 Yeah, I went for a 256GB version. I've always got phones with a SD slot but that is pretty much not happening these days with only Sony and a couple of others still doing it. I know we have cloud backup now but all those 48mp pics and any music music I download tend to be big high quality files. Also if you game on your phone I don't think 128 is big enough these days. 128GB is another thing Google could stop doing but but they should do 256 for the same price to bring the value back to the pixel line.

Many brands flagship phones are large. I too would get the better spec phone with a smaller size.
Because prices nowadays are so crazy, I think manufacturers had to make the phones bigger to give a better "perceived" value. Pay more = get more
I went from a Samsung S20 Plus to the Pixel 8 and I like Google software better but it was just too small, and the battery wasn't great on the 8. I have the Pixel 8 Pro now and I'm liking it better than the 8.
I went for the pixel 8 pro in Bay Blue its a really nice colour the size isnt too bad at all bigger battery life is a must for me

The pixel 8 pro feels much slim and more comfortable to hold for some reason, especially in the DBrand case.
I am always a 2 phone guy and used to have a big android and smaller iphone. But now that android battery has been really good, I flipped it up and have a smaller android pixel 6 and the big iphone pro max. I would say the pixel 6 is not that small at 6.4 inches so i feel like i have 2 big phones now. The pixel 8 looks more compact and might be worth the upgrade.
I have the same set up lol Iphone 15 pro Max and Pixel 8. Not sure if I want to pay for a extra line for my pixel 8.

Google has now shown their cards and given the game away by making phones with identical hardware and then placing software features behind a $300 pro paywall. It's pretty ridiculous. I've had the XL or pro model of every Pixel series since the original and this is the 1st year I've pre ordered the the standard model.
Only thing thats true about that statement might be that you've pre-ordered the 8 and "owned XL or pro model of every Pixel".

If video night mode came to standard pixel 8, I would have bought it already. But I have to contemplate upgrading my 7 pro to 8 pro..
Google just loves to complicate their Pixel offerings. Just offer us two phones with the same Pro specs and software features and upgrades but different screen sizes and prices.

Google nailed the compact furn factor but camera are different and no longer similar to 2,3 or 4 where the only difference is screen size.
One fits comfortably in my pocket, the other does not. Easy choice!
I was content with my Pixel 6 Pro, but accepted a "free" Pixel 8 from Verizon. I am looking forward to a slightly smaller phone. The biggest difference with the 8 Pro is the camera and I just don't care about that (I would have no idea how to use the manual camera settings). The 7 years of support is a major draw!

As I prefer smaller and don't care about screen res or the best camera ever ,I will def go with a pixel 8, will be replacing my pixel 3 A sadly the battery ia starting to drain much quicker now but 6 years for a smartphone ain't too bad :P.
Ordered the non pro. To me, if you don't use all those features every day, you'll never miss it. You also wont miss the extra $300 because you'll still have it. To each their own, but I use my phone for call, text, and watching TH-cam. No need for a crazy camera or AI camera features.
It was the night sight video and AI zoom that made me go Pro =(. Those sound like really useful features they hid behind the pro paywall.

Your non pro is perfectly capable of all those same camera features. Your non pro is definitely perfectly capable of ALL the features that will in the future not even happen on the device but instead on Google's servers.
But Google can't be bothered to give them to you unless you pay them an extra 300 dollars.
The hardware is all there, you're just not giving these anti consumer clowns enough money to warrant them giving you access to the artificial " exclusive" features.
@@albundy06 EXACTLY. All the heavy lifting is being done by the cloud servers, which is why the restriction is so petty. Both models have the same processors, and are basically the same, but Google decided to artificially make one "better" and "more pro".
While those features CAN be made available on the P8, I'm not going to bank on Google doing right by us and taking money out of their pockets to do the right and honest things.
@@lastfearboy as of right now, they said those were strictly pro features. I wouldn't bank on them doing something right when it doesn't help their bottom line.
I believe the pro models shouldn't have a major increase in features and components that can differentiate from the regular model. I think that the regular model should still have an all as one package deal.
For example adding an extra lens for the pro models and dual front facing cameras, etc.
Just having a bigger battery and display woud just be the best as an option.
Make the next pixel pros no bigger than 6.2-6.3 and that will be magical for most of us who love Android. Please stop making the pixel pro line so big.

The Pixel 8 size did it for me it's a fantastic compact alternative to Samsung and iPhone. The software camera and screen are fantastic! The form factor for me Google nailed it. The only disappointment for me was the processor which is still no slouch.

SO can anyone explain why the 1TB model of the Pro is ONLY available in the US? and the 512GB is only available in black. Iphones have been available with 1TB for around 3 years and with 50fps UHD video Google must be mad to limit the memory.

Like many others have said, the huge size of the pro put me off too. It’s a shame to have to miss out on a considerably better camera for the sake of having a more compact phone. I guess this is one of the reasons Apple is number 1 seller!

As someone who had both the regular 6 and 7 Pixel, this year I went with the Pro. Google offering $400 off for Fi users was a no brainer.

Considered upgrading from Pixel 7 to 8 Pro for the additional camera lens and screen brightness. Can't bring myself to because of the phone size. Even looked at Pixel 7 Pro. Too big for me. Will try again when Pixel 9 series comes out.

I get why they so a base and a pro at launch then the a later but just stop. Develop the a to actually compete with the pro at launch and let people choose more easily. I'll always go with the pro version and skip whol generations until they prove the next thing is better. The 8 pro is definitely a worth while upgrade for me from the 6 pro. I should have it in my hands later today.

Google pixel with SD8 Gen 2 is the only phone that would ever be good. Xiaomi too, if only they were availible in the USA
Bought the 8/Rose. Just got through setting it up. There are a billion options in Android 14. Exhausted.

I had the 7 pro but it was too big for me I'm on my feet all day at work and then I'm a runner and the phone is just it's a great phone but it's gigantic so I went with the Pixel 8 this time yeah I'll miss some of the camera features for sure but the eight is a nice size

Excellent piece of hardware from Google. For a decent usage (only calls, map navigations and WhatsApp) the charge lasts up to 1.5 days. Software is as usual smooth.

Pixel just needs to go back to Snapdragon. The tensor G3 is equal to the 888 they got you paying $1000 fot a 3 year old processor. Google could just make an separate AI chip and throw it in there. If AI is what the G3 is all about. I have the pixel 7 battery is okay, it lags, and gets hot sometimes for no reason and that's all because of that Samsung made processor. How does the S23 and Asus zenphone 10 get way better battery life with smaller batteries in them? Thats because Snapdragon is a way better processor. Google should be ashamed of themselves. The company that made Android. A software company and they cant figure out how to get the battery right 🤦

Google made this year so much more difficult. They put some really good features behind a paywall, and those features don't even require the added RAM that the Pro offers. I had to get the Pro, but obly because i didn't want to miss out on the video feature. Otherwise, i would have been perfectly happy with a red Pixel 8
which video feature are u talking about? the night mode one?
@@pratzwho there are 2. One is the feature where you shoot video, then Google basically makes it better by processing it on the cloud. The Pro also does night sight video, the regular pixel doesn't.
The second one is the zoom enhance feature. You can zoom in on pictures and video, and even though it's grainy, the pro will use AI to make it clearer and cleaner.
@@RetroKid Wow I really thought that the night sight one was also available on the regular model. OMG did i make a mistake buying 8 thinking at least I have good features like night sight. :( And btw that zoom enhnace feature is amazing and i guess they will make it available later on on 8 pro.
@@pratzwho yeah. I had the P8 preordered and was so happy...until I read the article that pointed out how this was the year Google was drawing the line in the sand between Pro and non-pro models. They also said that the features I just mentioned were staying pro-only. I wouldn't bank on them porting something over just because they can. They'd rather rely on suckers like me who suffer from fomo to spend the extra money.
Well it also depends on country to country. Had they priced pixel 8 pro better in our country and also made the 256 gb available I would have opted for pro in a heartbeat.
