Buying something because you like the look and feel is a great thing to do and ultimately that’s what it’s all about. Well said. I was flying my Yak 55 35% with a Radiomaster with the ag01 gimbals. After about 1 month, I took my EF Edge 35% with JR 14ch DMSS for guidance.... Took off, made a few laps and landed. Airplane was feeling weird. And this was my best flying machine EVER. Couldn't find anything wrong in it. Took off again. Few minutes later I realized, the BIGGEST difference was not just the plane, but the radio. I can feel the feedback with the tx16 and AG01 and cannot feel it with the JR. Weird sensation. Hard to explain
Agreed. Especially when a lot of these gimbals use the same electronics in their plastic counterparts as well. V4 Radiomaster gimbals are plastic AG01s and the gimbals in the FrSky Tandem radios are the same plastic versions of the CNC ones in the higher end models. That said, I'm at the point in life where if I'm going to get something I'm going to get the good stuff and CNC does feel way better. TX16S has PL18s, X20 is an S model and the X18 I'm going to pick up will be the SE.
Unless you have used these gimbals, you are talking out of your arse. These things feel incredible and the precision, stickfeedback and solid feel DOES allow me fly better and makes the feeling experience so much more elevated.
If you order your radio and gimbals direct from Radiomaster at the same time they will fit them in the factory at no cost , I just purchased my Zorro with Gimbals and with a delay of about 20 days they arrived fitted no problem.
@Rocco $550 for a TX16S with a metal case that's gonna get hot as balls in the summer... I dunno man. You can get a lot more radio for a lot less money... It is cool looking.
Because the design of the radio has the intention for upgrades (they sell the upgraded parts) the warrantly technically shouldn't be void when you open up the shell like this. I had a dispute with a retailer of the Jumper T16 I bought a few years ago. I purchased the radio AND some of the upgrades from the same store, at the same time. A few months later when the switches stopped working (remember they used poor quality ribbons instead of jst plugs) I tried to get some replacement ribbons under warranty. The retailer said no, because I had opened up the radio... thereby voiding the warranty. I argued that the radio is intended to be opened up, and that by selling the upgrades they must also acknowledge that. Ultimately, they insisted I send the radio back... I did so, fully tracked, and they'd had the package for weeks but still not contacted me. I got in touch and demanded a refund, they had my radio and my money. It took the threat of a paypal dispute before they refunded me.
There was someone who made a 3d mock up. Of the boxer. But was calling it something between the tango and mambo. On fpv life i do believe. Some months ago. Cool that someone made something
just a tip for people out there. put heat shrink on the throttle gimbal tensioner. it gives a more consistent smooth grip if you like it grippy. it will feel scratchy at first but it will smooth out with silicon grease.
I have a roll of adhesive 3M Teflon tape that I put on all of my throttle bars. That, combined with the RadioMaster damping grease makes for an unbelievably smooth throttle that still doesn't move on its own. It's my preference personally, but using heat shrink is an interesting idea for having a grippier throttle. I'll have to keep that idea in my back pocket if I ever want to try that.
AG01 grease works great for these, the PL18s and the CNC gimbals in the FrSky radios. Gives you a little more... I dunno it feels like you don't glide right through the center which is the only complaint I could maybe think of with CNC gimbals.
The grease is probably high viscosity silicone grease, same stuff used in camera tripod fluid heads. I bought a small tub of it from a Manfrotto spares supplier. Would be good to know for sure since I have most of a tub left
Nyogel 767A Lube and your gimbal will feel fantastic! I did it on my old Spektrum DX9 and the difference! I cant afford the Ag01 but ill be putting it on my standard boxer when it arrives later.
Thanx for a great review, just recieved the Boxer max, this thing is awesome, for sure made me a better pilot in lift off compared to when i use my DJI remote, or my Jumper t-pro v2, i can way better feel the center position, also the resolution of these gimbals are better, had to raise my rates 😊👍

I purchased from AliExpress 'dampening oil for camera' last summer, for 3 euro's per 50 gram container also from another store for 6 euro's, check for delivery cost. It's the same stuff.
I wish I could audition the AG01 gimbals. Been pretty happy for some years with a QX7 with hall gimbals and lately, an ELRS module in the JR bay. I also don't think push buttons at the corners of the Boxer works for my needs.
You have NO IDEA how good these gimbals feel. It is WORLDS better than plastic gimbals. Like, it will blow you away how smooth, crisp and precise they are. No contest hands down.

Funny is when you been flying for over 40yrs a gimbal is just a gimbal I use to fly Kraft radios and old futabas and never in my life time ever wore out a gimbal . It's not going to make you a better pilot. I think it's a waste of money But people out there think it's better and buy it cause it's makes them a better flyer.
Not really. The Zorro has some poor design decisions that steered me away from it like the sliders being on a very bad position, poor battery life and the ugly ass display sticking out. The TX12 is a better choice than the Zorro.
FYI: this video is only available in 360p unless you are a TH-cam premium subscriber. Not sure if you know that or not.... Never seen this limitation before.

I have both the Zorro and the TX16S with AG01 gimbals (mini for the Zorro). However, the TX16s gimbals always seemed "too big" for me when flying rc planes and drones. And the Zorro is just slightly too small. The DJI FPV Controller 1 was PERFECTTTTT. But I don't think they will ever come out with a AG01 Medium Gimbal and new controller for that will they? LOL
When will the boxer start shipping. I ordered both the radio and gimbals, and it seems like the AG01s will arrive 1 month before these radios even ship.
Maybe do the PL18s on your next Radiomaster? Have had them since Edge released and never any issues like that. Honestly have not heard of spring issues on the AG01s either tho.

Do u pinch or hybrid pinch? If so which switch do u use for a quick disarm? I had a mambo for a week and couldn’t adjust to the switch positions for quickly disarming. I’m so used to the top left switch on the qx7 and now the tango 2 toggle switch and am worried the boxer won’t work for me

Hi Josh, please use your influence to get RM to put the momentary shoulder switch on the left rather than the right.....the entire (RH) DLG community needs it on the left, but somehow theyre stuck on the right convention...........the Boxer is a winner for DLG - except it isn't.....

I just had my first Boxer in my hands. Yes,it fits my hands nice but it is too lacking. Two position switches vrs 3, BW vrs Color, no touch screen, no widgets,not enough switches. I prefer the TX16S. TX16S is much better full featured radio.
I feel like it's a little bit silly to buy a budget radio and then add gimbals that cost as much as the whole radio. The boxer is marketed for people who want bang for buck. Doesn't seem like that crowd would be interested in buying insanely expensive upgrades that don't effect performance to any significant degree. I guess the urge to upgrade is strong in this hobby though so who knows.
I just got the red Boxer Max which has the AGO1s as standard with all the switchwork converted to aluminum. It's pretty reasonably priced at $259 and I get the premium feel and compact form factor I want. It's a great radio and still great "bang for buck" just at a different price point. The AG01 gimbals are really nice, better than the Futaba and Spektrum radios I've owned in the past where you don't get CNC gimbals unless you're willing to spend at least $7-800.
I really wish that radiomaster would've made the screen color 😫 it doesn't have to be touch screen but just having a color display would've put the cherry on top on this radio 🤌🏽

But I have the crappy cc2500 I was gonna throw on an elrs module but then the newer tx12 came out and I was peed off lol now this bad boy is out and I love it! The full gimbals are awesome I fly planes too so I'm in the market for a do it all radio I think this one in a 4in1 version with a ranger plugged in the back might be GOLDEN😁👍🏽✌🏽

The AG01 gimbals feel so nice in my TX16S. The Boxer radio will definitely feel less toy-like with those gimbals.

For the screws not being symetrical you could put a sticler that matches the color and have a printed on fake screw hole...just saying.
Unlike the tx16s, installing the led ring won't compromise your stick travel. So that's something you can do.

That throttle gimbal lubricant wears off really fast. Have to look for another option 🤔

That's not configurable as far as I know. Mine is blue when the radio is on and green when the radio is charging.

The ag01 gimbals are large similar to x9d, not the smaller gimbals in Tango 2.

I use the front face switch because I don't like using the shoulder flat switches for arming.

You don't need to do that. Both gimbals can be set to centering or non-centering throttle by turning adjustment screws.

I feel like it's a little bit silly to buy a budget radio and then add gimbals that cost as much as the whole radio.
The boxer is marketed for people who want bang for buck. Doesn't seem like that crowd would be interested in buying insanely expensive upgrades that don't effect performance to any significant degree. I guess the urge to upgrade is strong in this hobby though so who knows.
I just got the red Boxer Max which has the AGO1s as standard with all the switchwork converted to aluminum. It's pretty reasonably priced at $259 and I get the premium feel and compact form factor I want. It's a great radio and still great "bang for buck" just at a different price point. The AG01 gimbals are really nice, better than the Futaba and Spektrum radios I've owned in the past where you don't get CNC gimbals unless you're willing to spend at least $7-800.
Why nobody is talking about shoulder buttons? Horrible decision on a great radio =(
I love shoulder buttons. I missed them when I got rid of my Tango 2 and looking forward to having them again when I get the Boxer.
That is just too much money for gambles they cost as much as the radio

Raodiomaster really needs some new blood in their design departepment...their designs suck ...its awfull on any objective contemporary scale.
I really wish that radiomaster would've made the screen color 😫 it doesn't have to be touch screen but just having a color display would've put the cherry on top on this radio 🤌🏽
That would require a lot of new work for edgetx team to support a new screen size.
@Joshua Bardwell I know 😫....lol I just really love the size of the midsized radios JB like the t12 is my favorite! But I have the crappy cc2500 I was gonna throw on an elrs module but then the newer tx12 came out and I was peed off lol now this bad boy is out and I love it! The full gimbals are awesome I fly planes too so I'm in the market for a do it all radio I think this one in a 4in1 version with a ranger plugged in the back might be GOLDEN😁👍🏽✌🏽
