Your explanation was spot on. The horrors surrounding Rocket and his past was just horrifying. The closeup of the critters eyes will shatter you. It did for me. His early "friends" were so heartbreakingly lovely. When young Rocket CRIED his eyes out over the loss of Lila, I lost it. I felt so much HATE for the High Evolutionary. I wanted him DEAD. This film has cemented by animal advocacy! This film had many lessons. I liked the arc of all the Guardians. I always felt Rocket was so superior based on his ingenuity. Now we know why. I also felt some of the Guardians were going to die. Aside from our beloved Rocket, I loved Drax and Nebula. This Gamora did annoy me but I realize she is someone else. I was happy for her when she returned to The Ravagers and saw they were her family. Groot saying "I love you guys" just exploded my heart. And yes, Vol 3 may be too intense for younger children. When we saw it together (your second time), that young family sat beside us and the littlest boy started to cry and became upset. His Dad had to console him. Don't bring children under 10 to this film.
