In this video, we look at how hydrocarbons are combusted. We explore how this is an oxidation reaction and then we look at how to balance equations for combustion.

no, as long as you know the general formula for alkanes and how to balance equations you should be able to work it out from there.
when making chemical equations, i don't when the integer has to be before the element or behind (specially when balancing equations like in electrolysis). I get it when the reaction is with a halogen but not when it is with oxygen/hydrogen/carbon/iron/etc. Please answer my question.

On the practice question, why did you put a 4 in front of the hydrogen atoms instead of 6?
A large number in front of a chemical multiples all the small numbers. So the 4 multiplies by the 2 in H2O to produce 8 hydrogen atoms.

not enough oxygen, forms carbon monoxide + water (sometimes carbon dioxide aswell) pretty certain you can't balance the equation

Incomplete combustion occurs in deficiency of oxygen. The hydrocarbon doesn't burn fully. The product will be carbon monoxide

its called incomplete combustion and produces carbon monoxide, thats basically it.
I don't understand the bit where you put 4 in front of the H2 because that would only make H6 and not H8
