    Live Footage of Mimic Octopus known as one of most intelligent sea creatures, it's not only blend to surrounding surface by changing skin colors but also mimics others like lionfish and banded sea snakes along with their movement and behavior. It also flashes colors like cuttlefish when it gets excited. This one here filmed in Lembeh Strait, Indonesia has missing tentacles, which it can also grow back.

    Love the footage at 1:53 where we can tell the octo is wise to the observing humans. Love the "eyebrows!"

      @@AMadar-kj5hb The next thing you know is that you realize you weren't raise by your mother but a octopus mimicking as your mother.

    the black and white it reflects is part the diver dark suit, and maybe the dark screen of the camera and white flash. depending where the octopus is focusing on.

    no wonder that one was so skittish, it lost 3 arms, 1 was dwarfed in the process of re growing & the two front ones must have been very recent as they didn't start to regenerate.

    Contrary to popular belief, he stopped acting like a flatfish because he remembered that his parents told him that he was above his predators :p

    • @Emsev100
      @Emsev100 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +broadbandislife Not entirely... The Kraken itself might be just fiction BUT the stories about it comes from true or "true-ish" events. Octopuses looking exactly like the Kraken has been found close by where it's said to hide. And even though they were not as big as the Kraken, they were close... (^_^)

    • @beyondthewatersurface
      @beyondthewatersurface  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Anders Ehn usually about a meter, hard to say, they shapeshift constantly, stretching up, i think, they can grow bigger, they just don't have a chance to survive.

    • @beyondthewatersurface
      @beyondthewatersurface  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People and pollution, i was third in the group to film this one, it was two other groups underwater, at the same time... they get disturbed by divers constantly in this channel, which is not that big, it is busy day and night, lots of boats passing through... they are tasty to eat and local don't protect them.... plus they leave in the sand, not on the reef, they are good survivers, but all conditions are against them. Plus, pollution is out of control there, the tide changes every 6 hours and brings a lot of garbage and plastic.

    Just wow... and very mysterious to someone like me who is not a diver. I guess the first imitation was of a sea snake, and maybe there was a touch of flatfish at the end, but what about the rest? They are very distinctive but can you tell us what you think this little critter is imitating?

    • @XxDainBramagedxX

      +broadbandislife What if the octopus would mimic a creature scientists have yet to discover?

    • @broadbandislife
      @broadbandislife 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      XxDainBramagedxX Considering it lives in the parts of the ocean that are actually fairly easily accessible and hence pretty well-studied?
      Yeah, right.
      Just because you can't _tell_ what it's mimicking doesn't mean it's something extraordinary. Do recall that they're not doing it for our benefit; they're doing it to deter predators by looking like something dangerous. So long a shape achieves that it fully serves its purpose - and keep in mind most animals have rather worse eyesight than we do. Theirs tends to be mostly keyed for shape and movement, not fine detail.
