It takes a few seconds for them to shock you. If you hit it with a spear they let you go.

Cenipedes can only shock if both of the ends grab you.

@@Sir_Steven Yes, that is correct. Every centipede attack you by connecting their head and tail once you're grabbed by them, similiar to a cable. You can observe this behaviour yourself in sandbox or safari.
