I've seen serral win late games being down in supply against terran or protoss.

@@Eirocina true it requires deepest understanding of army composition, attack timing and proper execution.
Reynor and Dark has the same qualities but only serral has the comeback characteristic in his games.

Last game was the last Wol mission in the campaign, so many zerg waves to defend. gg seral and Maru, great sc2 games!

I'm so happy Serral got the revenge on Maru. You can see his plays being much sharper than ever than his past games against Maru.
It's nice to see how much improvement Serral has on his already top-tier gameplay.

The last game was like the Terren last campaign mission but it Serral difficulty. Endless wave of BANELINGS is just more than brutal.

I was rooting for Serral the whole time, then the Battlecruisers came out and I subconsciously started rooting for Maru.
I did the same thing. There's just something so satisfying about Battlecruisers.

Yeah, Maru for whatever reason can't bring back a trophy when he's overseas. He smashed Serral in the last tournament they played (Winterhack I believe).

@@tytp001 I truly think in my admittedly uneducated opinion Maru possesses more skills than any of these other guys, but just chokes or is a head case or whatever when he is competing offline. He's doing more innovative stuff than all these other players and showcasing stuff that requires more skill than these other players. Zerg mid-game against Terran is basically broken and that's where Maru struggles the most, along with surprise builds. The only time Terran can comfortably dominate mid-game is if they either kill a ton of workers early or create some very successful early pressure and capitalize on it. Otherwise, if the Zerg is able to establish bases it can just keep spamming Lings and Bane run-bys until they get their T3 units out. The funny part is it used to be late-game TvZ that was impossible to win for the Terran. Either way, Zerg is still OP. The Aligulac rankings say it all.
These casters are very, very good. Much better than you usually see in e-sports.

Serral getting back his tittle of overmind of the zerg gives me chills, amazing game, It kinda pained me the way he was playing the last 2 years, it didnt felt like he was up to challenge anymore, now I see i was sorely mistaken.

It's kinda neat having both him and Reynor seemingly back in championship form at the same time. Honestly wasn't expecting 3 of the 4 semifinalists being non-Koreans (and not even Clem in the mix), but it's good to see. Hope they can sustain their success.
I hate how people shat on Serral all last year for not winning as many tournaments as they thought he should have. The guy was at the top of Aligulac for most of last year.
well he definitely was one fo the buggest, but thsi tournament in particular was an absolute dominat form like hadn't been seen for long
@@kommisar. People were shitting on Serral because he lost to cheese. 4x cheese actually. 2x from Rogue and 2x from DRG. Then we see that he trained so hard to fight against cheese that when Dark tried to cheese him in this tournament, it just bounced off.

15:35 this was some Sun Tzu shit. Uses the locusts to get view and force a response, uses a nydus to force a large response, moving Maru's army out of its central position to defend, then snipe the southeast base with the real army and pull back. And all it cost was a nydus and a locust round, and a few lings to the PF. Brilliant. That is the kind of stuff I watch SC2 for.

Honestly, I'm super happy to see that game 2, while this is often a macro matchup you sometimes just see Zerg auto-lose to early aggression from Terran, but it's cool to see Serral catch Maru with an all-in and just take a game for free. I'd love to see more zergs just try and kill early in one game.
Thats the only terran favored map in the pool, so serral went for cheese.

I do feel that Terran needs more diverse that work in the highlevel game like improve hellbates and maybe somehow Thor, make battlecruser better somehow but still keep it fair, Bec it seems like Zerg have more option hydra, roach ravenger, viper, mutas, lurkers, infestor. But Terran is always like marine Maura mauradeur medivac & tanks, and late game is ghosts. So we can have games w more diverse units that Terran can use to keep high level Zerg players guessing idk just my observation

Yeah, go look up the top 10. One to two week ago 6 were Zergs and 4 out of 5 in the top 5 were Zergs. Currently it's still 5 Zergs, 4 Terrans and 1 Protoss in the top 10 and 3 Zergs, 2 Terran and 1 Protoss in the top 5. The last 4 winners of Katowice have all been Zergs too.

I am not a pro player or any where near it. But why can't Maru just build some defends like bunkers to prevent consistent lings or banglings run by killing so many SUV? seems like a couple bunkers would have saved some many SUV and mining time. And why pro player just don't like to build stationary defends units?
Generally, they don't have the money for it. Every mineral you spend on static defenses, is money you're not putting in your army on the front line. For Terran, the race that normally has to be aggressive in the match up, that means you're less likely to put damage on them if you don't have your full army there.
What you're getting at is why Terrans will start building Planetary Fortresses at expansions after a while. They're harder to kill and can defend against small run byes. But bunkers require 275 minerals and 4 supply, which starts to add up and make your army noticeably worse.
Both of these guys usernames sound like sci-fi army factions.

I forget who it was but someone in the group stage of this tournament basically said his first playoff opponent was going to be a zerg, implying that Terran and Protoss aren't strong enough to top their groups atm. Sure he wasn't completely correct but it gives some insight into how the pros see the current power balance of races.
I want to say it was Dark that said that, as he was runner up of Group B behind Serral.
Play against me, then you won't think Zerg is op.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like Queens give Zerg an unfair advantage against pushes because of how ridiculously tanky they can be which only gets better the more there are in proximity to each other.
You’re pretty much going to end up with easy defense that can bog down attackers that need a rather ridiculous numerical advantage to overcome the healing by which point you can call in reinforcements to swamp them. I dunno, I just feel like an early unit like that shouldn’t be remotely that tough to kill.
Unfortunate game 1 and game 2, would have been interesting to see the whole best of 5 series played out with longer games. As great as Maru's late game mech is it feels like he's basically forced to play that style in every game, it's all about just surviving the early and mid game to make it into that style. Seems really difficult for Terran to pull off any big surprises against Zerg atm.
Picking Pride, or not vetoing it, was a VERY questionable on Maru part. Also that double Reapers build on game 2 was also a bad choice. And the last game, Maru simply needed to make more mines. He was looking foward to build the end game composition, but Serral was simply rolling in ling and banes non-stop. Had Maru switched back to double Mines production over Tanks, he would have hard countered Serral build, and force him to switch into higher tech where Maru had an advantage.
@@tigera6 I'm very well aware what went wrong, hindsight being hindsight. Maru loses a lot of maps due purely to having to try to play different to prevent being predictable, but outside of midgame mines and late game mech/ghost little has worked against these top zergs. There just aren't enough effective options in T v Z and Maru's played so, so, so much of it in playoff matches over the last year that everyone knows how he's going to play it.

@@warmonster12345 ... and he's a zerg. I'm well aware how standard Serral plays, Maru tried the same thing for a while and suffered heavily for being too predictable. Because Terran simply cannot get away with that.
In T v Z you simply cannot sit back and play standard while letting the Z build up, you'll lose every single time.
@@tigera6 Serral is also insanely good at splitting off against Mines. I don't think they would have hard countered it what he was doing at all.
