The Quest for the Crest is one of my favorites! I've run it 3 times and you can check out the video we shot in 2022 here th-cam.com/video/xqMOptuUTAs/w-d-xo.html Also about to drop our Hellbender 100 video later today which runs these trails too. It's an absolute beast and regarded one of, if not the hardest 100 on the east coast. Worth checking out
@@wolfliferunning dude that’s awesome! Yeah I’ve run quest twice and love it! Hellbender has been on my radar for a while. I couldn’t agree more..hard!!
Beautiful area and trail! Great run! Only one suggestion... you should have worn red socks to match your red Salomon vest (like your friend in the blue vest/socks) ;-)
That's a tough one. I'd say the first climb in runnable in you like uphill, and it's fast on the way down. There are some flowy sections once you make the ridge, but nothing is flat. Maybe 1-2 miles of patch together runnable sections on the ridge each direction. But the knobs on the ridge are steep. I tried to show the ropes, they slow you down for sure. Overall plan on doing a mix of hiking and running. And have a blast!
Camping on the trail is limited / primitive at best. The biggest issue is water, there is nothing on the ridge. And the few spring require a bit of tough trail down then back up at Colbert Ridge trail about half way. There is some camping in Mt Mitchel before you hit the summit. But I'd check to make sure the water is turned on. It wasn't for us... which was no fun. Thank you for watching and commenting!
@@wolfliferunning Doing this soon as a 2 day hike (staying at deep gap for the night) did you notice any water sources along the way? Was in flathead Montana 2 years ago and because of the drought there was no water for 16 miles. You can imagine how much that sucked lol.
@@ChrisP.Bacon008 There really isn't any water once you make the ridge. There was a small trickle as you make your way out of Deep gap towards the top, but they not be there unless they have had some recent rain. The water should be on at Mt Mitchell though! They have water fountains that they turn on mid-June. Have a great trip, this is great but tough for trail to say the least.
To do that trail in one day speaks volumes about your mental and physical condition. Bravo gents.
Did you guys see any old railroad tracks on that path? or any cool bridges? I feel like we missed a lot of the beautiful scenery. Overall great video.
Check out quest for the crest 50k great race that happens on that trail.

It's called the Black Mountains because of the Spruce and Fir trees on the tops of the mountains 🎄
What was your time on the way up?
Awesome!
Awesome day. The Beast lived up to its name
Amazing! Looked super gnarly!
Sick!

Love this idea! We're heading to Iceland in a few weeks and red socks are on the list. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
@@wolfliferunning haha! Have a blast!
How much of trail was runnable? Great video!

Beautiful! Are there a lot of good camping options along this route or are they pretty limited?
