- Hello and welcome to Basic Fishing from New Zealand.
In this video I was on the wharf again and saw an opportunity too good to miss. There were schools of pipers present and so I decided to do some float fishing for them. It has been a very long time since I've targeted pipers and felt great to be at the right place at the right time. Snapper fishing was slow but it was great getting a few pipers on the float rig

Back to your roots bro. Humble Warf fishing, very enjoyable watch.
The snapper in that river system hunt the yellow eyed Mullet. They are a popular live and dead bait for Snapper in that spot used by locals (I think I may have seen you use one as bait there in another video, I may be mistaken).
But over the years I have seen lots of people using conventional store bought baits there, while people fishing spratts as bait get the legal fish.
Trevally are a good chance when fished for from the other side aimed at the shell fish beds with micro jigs.
You do get Kingfish up there of course seasonally, I would like to say I have seen one there, but I have not.
Great spot. How did you cook your Piper? fried or steamed?
i didn't cook the piper. used them all for bait lol
@@BasicFishingNZ 🤣 fair call too, they are great bait hey, and if you are wanting to eat em you have to catch lots!
kinda regret not using them as live baits but u learn as u go lol
