I was curious to see why we are 6 points behind Liverpool, (and they have a game in hand too). This is what I found. Last 8 away (PL) matches : Liverpool, 6 - 2 - 0, (20 points). Arsenal, 3 - 3 - 2, (12 points). That is a 8 point difference, just over 8 away matches !

Not all good players can play at a big club.

And if you're buying them mid-season then you want them to have an immediate impact. This is why it is usually a bad idea to spend a lot of money in January. Regarding the Arsenal game against Brighton, it wasn't our lack of strikers which were the issue but our lack of control of the midfield and that was easily remedied by sticking Partey back where he should be playing. Unfortunately Arteta prefers to make both our defence and our midfield worse by playing Partey at right back.
