In the video, it states that the government passed "super legislation" to curb car manufacturers making cars more and more powerful. This is simply not the case. In the mid-seventies, a Sydney Sunday newspaper ran a front page scare story about Australian vehicle manufacturers planning to build 260km/h “supercars”. State and Federal politicians were appalled and wanted to make legislation to ban these types of cars, unfortunately they soon realized that it was too prohibitively complicated. They opted for a cheap, easy solution. Any car manufacturer that produced "supercars" wouldn't be considered for any government fleet vehicles sales Australia wide. The concept of Australian supercar manufacturing died overnight. P.S. As a former Ford worker (Geelong) and diehard, I forgive you for following Brisbane, but only just, and I mean just.

But mine was optioned with the rare 225 slant 6 cylinder Pacer engine. 180HP, it was terrifying with all round drum brakes. It was Turqouise with Parchment interior. Such a stunning car. They messed up the Sportsman as well, they didn't have V8's. He is mixing it up with the Charger 770 E55. I also have a Sportsman Charger. It has a 265 inline 6 with a 4 speed manual on the floor. In that era, Australian muscle cars actually handled well. You could tackle winding roads without dying. American muscle cars could only go fast in a straight line.

The first monaros, had crap 307's they weren't any good until they got 327chev .. the 307/8 were junk right up to the 70's the 70's Statesmans spent more time in the Garage than on the Road, a huge let down, It was a awesome, driving car, comfort, an fantastic long distance drive ..
your reaction tells me that American Manufacturers need to produce compact 4 door high performance cars , get away from the rolling brick style of the "trucks"
Bloody hell, show a Pacer? with a slant 6 that shows a 318 Regal. Tilleys blue Pacer has had a 360 in it for years The GTR X shown here is a LONG way from the one we saw in 71. Outside basically the same but dash, trim etc nowhere near. There ever only was one. owned by GMH. Originally white with LC steering wheel, instruments etc. With GTR wheels Silver car is tye same car with among other things UC wheels. Ph3 was basically a Boss 351. Power was around 380hp. There is more now than in 71! Ph 3 was slower over the quarter than a 6 pack Charger. But higher top speed. The Muscle car Charger was always the Charger RT 6 pack. Eventually 302hp 265 engine with triple Webers. 770 was a luxury sports. Nice car but not muscle as such. Waffles 4.3 Hemi and shows a 318! XA RPO was a 300hp engine with a couple of god bits to help racecars. Never anything else The Ph 4 would have been a 4 door. Not the fat arsed heavier thing they raced
Yes and no.We had Ford Galaxie here with the 390 but that wasn't really a muscle car. They stopped selling them here when Ford developed our version of the LTD.
Pretty lame really ~ No GTR -XU-1, No SLR ~ No L34~ No A9X (especially the LX , superb Torana and giant winner!) And some of those listed I have never been really aware of ?? But what would I know!
14:30 What? If the topic is the Monaro 'Coupe' then stick to the Monaro Coupe! Many of the images presented in this presentation are swapping between the four door GTS sedan and the two door Monaro. This is shamefully lazy editing and does nothing to enhance the understanding of our models to those not familiar with the Australian market.

I like your t shirt I'm a mopar fan here in new Zealand my wife is a ford we are talking real cars pre 1980 she has a 54 customline with a 239 flathead electronic injection and 4 Porsche turbos with adlebrock heads aussie made a good selection of muscle cars
The guy made a mistake, the 225 Slant 6 never made 245HP.
I think they mixed it up with the 245 Hemi 6 cylinder found in the next model VG.
I had one of those 1969 VF Valiant sedans, but it was a Regal and not a Pacer.
Mine was with the rarely optioned automatic and I also had another Charger XL optioned with a bored out 245 to 250 from factory.
Shame about the ai narration. 😉I have a picture I recently took of the Torana GTR x, it’s the National Motor Museum Birdwood South Australia. I’m sure there is a walk around video somewhere on here. 🍻
Goodday Mate ,at the same time ,Holden had a purple promotion Ute very special saw it in person beautiful, try and find it
The pacer had drum brakes and 3 speed gearbox... which really let the valiants down.
the GTR-XU1 blew the doors off the GT HO
If you have a look at your chevy’s over there from 1948 onward at your cars you will see that they resemble most of the early Holdens
Most of the early Holdens were mini Chevs
In the 70s it was win on Sunday, and you could buy it on Monday.
no Holden untill the 6.2 Maloo even got close to matching the GTHO for out right speed lol a lot of Holden fans will say the LJ GTR-XU1 because it won thanks to a monsoon and a nanny state government banning the Phase IV, but no that needed a series of unfortunate events to happen in order for the XU1 to compete!
Where did the E49 Chargers ran unbeatable against the very top XY Falcon GTHO was on New Zealand race tracks
I owned 2 LJ GTR toranas , HQ GTS MONARO 2DR , and i regret selling them back in the day
In that era, Australian muscle cars actually handled well. You could tackle winding roads without dying. American muscle cars could only go fast in a straight line.
Holden made some bad ass cars.
#JohnnyBasement... This man is naming these cars and i never heard of these extra name tags, Im Australian and grew up around these cars, WTF dude?
Got me my fellow trucker! I ran longhaul as well as oil tankers for many years! Also, I didnt make the vid, just reacted to it! Stay safe out there driver!🚛😎
They also missed the Torana a9x and xu1 models
The Phase 3 was at the time the fastest production sedan in the world and was beaten by the Lotus Carlton, according to magazine sources.
Beaten finally many years later. Near thirty years.
There were faster 4 door cars like the Masserati Quattroporte series 2 built up to 1970.
Mate tell me about it I can't even change a light globe now, and I'm not joking 😑
I have to remove the corresponding wheel to get to the headlights and then it was like reading braille with mangled fingers to get the new bulb in.
@@PaulA-bv1rt LOL fair enough 🤣
America thought the phase 3 was a joke as all performance models in the us were coupes
How can anyone be afraid of what they don’t even know exists?
The first monaros, had crap 307's they weren't any good until they got 327chev ..
the 307/8 were junk right up to the 70's the 70's Statesmans spent more time in the Garage than on the Road, a huge let down, It was a awesome, driving car, comfort, an fantastic long distance drive ..
I'm with you Johnny, they don't have the style of today's boring designs.
your reaction tells me that American Manufacturers need to produce compact 4 door high performance cars , get away from the rolling brick style of the "trucks"
The phase 3 should be number 1
4:45 That is a V8, not the slant 6!
Only 2 GTX -R were made one was crushed . Other in museum
Australian cars are way better than American cars
Check out TCM Bathurst !!! Touring Car Masters , you'll luv it !!!
Holden was owned by GM. Lots of GM in the cars.
4 dr. cars are not "muscle" cars. They are Mom cars. Putting a big engine in a Mom car does not make it a muscle car. Makes them "sleepers".
He missed the Torana xu1
Bloody hell, show a Pacer? with a slant 6 that shows a 318 Regal. Tilleys blue Pacer has had a 360 in it for years
The GTR X shown here is a LONG way from the one we saw in 71.
LH Torana A9X
Didn't all the Aussie cars have small blocks?
Yes and no.We had Ford Galaxie here with the 390 but that wasn't really a muscle car. They stopped selling them here when Ford developed our version of the LTD.
Were is the A9X
Pretty lame really ~ No GTR -XU-1, No SLR ~ No L34~ No A9X (especially the LX , superb Torana and giant winner!)
And some of those listed I have never been really aware of ?? But what would I know!
14:30 What? If the topic is the Monaro 'Coupe' then stick to the Monaro Coupe! Many of the images presented in this presentation are swapping between the four door GTS sedan and the two door Monaro. This is shamefully lazy editing and does nothing to enhance the understanding of our models to those not familiar with the Australian market.
GTHO PHASE 3 World's fastest 4door sedan in the world! Year 1971 and= Family Car! If you have a good one be prepared to pay 1 million plus for it!
