To me your orange Fiesta plate is pretty because it brings back good memories. To you it was just an orange plate.

I dont like my art either, I enjoy doing it and it helps with my panic attacks but then I compare it to really good artists and then think " why bother" I know you said "dont do that" but your sketchbook is beautiful I love it!!!

Yep. I’ve been trying to think of my art like sand castles in the sand. You’re just doing it to do it. Then the waves are going to wash it away.

Arleigh, I immensely enjoyed the whole video. The practicee of expressing what you have in your mind (in words and/or in painting) is really interesting to me in general, but watching the video was as if I was reading a novel of a protagonist trying to find what thiey are but done in a structured way -- It reminded me of a particular novel but I don;t know what it was -- a Muriel Spark novel???). You know, Tchaikovsky didn't like "The Nutcracker Suite" lol.

I paint because I enjoy the experience. Some of my work has been good and some has been awful. I even sold a few of the good ones. More are not good.

it's hard isn't it. I think I cook the same way. sometimes it's good, sometimes it's "meh," and once in a while I'll throw it out! lol

I have only just found your channel, and I hope you don't mind me commenting. I am enjoying viewing your sketchbook, but in my opinion, it would be much more enjoyable if you didn't have your notes over the pages. Maybe drop them down a bit so we can see your drawings while you talk about the points on your notes. It just feels distracting to me. I don't mind your commentary, but the notes interrupt being able to see your art. 😊

thanks for your feedback. it's kind of an imovie thing, they don't give you many choices for text. and if I put it at the bottom then it collides with the captioning if people have that turned on. i do have another video of the same sketchbook with no text-over.

    1. your art is awesome!
    2. i totally feel your "inner critical monologue". i have adhd and i can assure you that this kind of "excessive" inner monologue isn't "neurotypical". it COULD be useful, if you visit a neurologist. not saying that something is wrong with you. IF you got adhd or something different, it will help you explain these monologues and it will give you a better mindset. specially about your art!
    3. it seems that you are a very educated, experienced human. why do you ask yourself questions like: what is beauty or "pretty"? it is absolutely subjective! from my personal, subjective perspective, your artstyle is AWESOME! your pictures ARE pretty! and beautiful! how cant they be? there is no "good" or "bad" art. there is just art. one person will like it. another wont. there are people who dont like picasso so much (like me). i like little artiss more.. (okok.. frazetta, dali, bosch, giger, etc. are just pure geniuses, but their style is GODLIKE, very unique and their level of artistry is.. probably uncomparable.. at least for me.. but i think this is also a proof of point)
just have fun and work on your skills! doing art is something spiritual! a healthy thing for your mind, your being, your existence, your very soul. you tap into an energy, that a thousands, millions, billions of other artists tapped into before. davinci. picasso. monet. kandinski. what would make me or you say, that you arent just like them, while you are connected to this creative energy that connects us as artists. we are not bound by space or time. its like magic.. but its real! real magic!
you do this real magic by trying to get better at creating art while.. creating art. it is the best thing, the purest thing, that someone can do!
draw what you like, how you like it! the art that you do is always a product of the very moment you made it, the feelings, the thoughts that you put into it, the wishes, the dreams. the time. the effort. you strive to be something better.
its a product of your skills. of your soul. of your hands. of your brain. rational thinking. abstract thinking. creative thinking.
    4. OF COURSE pictures never end up like we imagined it. thats how our brain works! dont be so hard on yourself! PLEASE!
    5. your notes are proof that you are an awesome person.
i wish you the best. keep on. your art is beautifull! NEVER STOP EDUCATING YOURSELF!!!
