I was looking at the Leeds in shell and now I’m sold, thank you (my wife is going to loose it when another pair of shoes arrives) but I will blame you for it.
Off topic comment unrelated to shell. I do also notice one thing with my c&j regular line compared to others like Carmina or Carlos Santos is that their linings are just the best out of all shoes that I have. And that is a big factor in comfort.
i feel like buying a pair of alden shell shoes is for the look. nothing else for me. i like the look and it's worth the price for me.... can you share your thoughts on Guidi?
Allen Edmonds quality control has collapsed since the company was bought out a few years ago. Trust me, I learned the hard way. I tried to buy their C Shell Daltons and the experience was horrible -- currently my review is the 'most helpful' review on their website. I've bought a lot of A&E over the years but NEVER again! ...not the same company. That's part of the reason they "go on sale".
Thanks for sharing. My experience has been good. That said it’s clear that what is measured in terms of quality standards has changed over the years. They just don’t make the shoes to the same standards they used to.
I love the Alden heritage and solid construction but what I dislike is there's no attention to detail. Their shoes have stitch density close to an AE, there's no hidden channel. They do have models with Wheel fudging on them, no oak bark soles option or JR soles, stitch density on the uppers is not impressive, pretty much in par with AE. They do have premium leather in the uppers and brass screws on the heels for decoration. In my opinion their shoes are overpriced for what they offer, their European competitors offer way more value than them... That's what they need to improve, but I love their American lasts.. very classy!
Alden also has the widest last amongst the group, so formality decreases slightly whilst comfort improves (arguably).

Indeed. The tier 1 makers could learn a thing or two from CJ.
I just picked up some 990s and I'm honestly kind of giddy about it. Thanks for the review!
I can relate. A good thing to be giddy about!
If I do a lot of walking what is more uncomfortable the Alden Cordovan or the calf shoes Just forgetting the differences in soles
Alde shoes for tap dance tell ok
It's not in production but the 93606 for the win.
That is a great shoe. No doubt.
