Whilst you make good points when you have two signallers that understand bell codes properly, then bells become the most efficient way to communicate. For example, it'd take an average person 10s to type "Is line clear for diesel" but with bells it's 3 pause 1 clicks which takes about 2 seconds
Thanks for the comment, assuming that the signallers are competent and the end receiving the signal clearly hears it then of course it will be perfect. I personally love using the chat box however again the belling makes this game unique and it's also a learning curve which is great.
I think DR as a simulator, not a game, so if you really want the realism on the game or use it to learn signalling, as i do, you need to learn it, and they have the bells because in real life you have not a text chat but you have the bell
