I was a member of the Dallas Texan Football Club 1960-62. Watched the Texans in all of their home games at the Cotton Bowl. Very exciting AFL football which in my opinion was better than the more established NFL. Watched the 1962 AFL championship game against the Oilers on our old Amana rabbit eared television. The game was televised in B&W, but this was the first time I had seen this video in color! Curt Gowdy was the commentator for ABC.

This is a historic film...due to the fact you have the last year for the New York Titans and the Dallas Texans and also you got the Raiders in the black n gold...

Wow! This is the first time I've seen this color film of the game. Previously, I had only seen the kinescopes of the broadcast, which I had never seen, because I was at the game! I was seated in the bleachers at the opposite end of the field from Jeppesen Fieldhouse. It was a great game, and of course, very exciting, until we lost. I was probably in about the 4th grade, but I loved football. Our family attended almost all of the home games the first three years, and just Dad and I went to see the 1st AFL title game in 1960. What a thrill to see Billy Cannon on that long touchdown run! Oiler fan forever.

Jeppesen Stadium still exists in Houston, but it is used for college football at the University of Houston. Originally known as Houston Public School
Stadium when it opened in 1942, the Cougars moved into the facility in 1946. In 1970, the University of Houston bought the facility. Today, Jeppesen Stadium is now known as Robertson Stadium, named for
Board of Regents member and athletics committee chairman Corbin
    J. Robertson.

I visited it in 1992 and again in 2006. It was actually demolished and replaced with UH's new stadium on the same site.

When the Houston Oilers were healthy, their offense was unstoppable. Blanda, Tolar(the Oilers first 1000yd RB), Cannon in the backfield, the AFLs best three- wide receiver group in Hennigan, Groman, & Dewveall. And a top tight end in McCloud.
And for early 60s AFL standards, they had a decent defense. Tony Banfield & Fred Glick were excellent DBs. Husmann & Cline were a big part of the Oilers championship runs too.

It’s criminal they couldn’t win a Super Bowl, 1992 was likely their best shot, but then they epically collapsed against Buffalo.

Bud Adams was also a lousy owner.

Thank you very much for posting,
this is absolute gold to any of the original AFL fans!!
Though this is well before my time, as I didn't begin to be an AFC fan until the mid 1970s, I certainly love to watch these classic films.
I grew up a die-hard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins as an 10 year old in 1977, but started greatly admiring the Houston Oilers mainly due to Coach Phillips, who started there for the 1975 season. I really treasure learning about & cheering-on Houston's proud beginnings,
so again, thanks so much for posting this history!!

And the first Buffalo game on this reel is the first appearance of the red and blue Bills uniform with the red buffalo silhouette on headgear...until this, they were in blue and silver similar to the Lions.

The Raiders had financial troubles after the 1962 season and needed a $400,000 loan from Buffalo Bills owner Ralph Wilson to survive. No wonder since they played their first two seasons across the bay in
San Francisco, first sharing Kezar Stadium with the 49ers and then in Candlestick Park before finally moving to a temporary facility in Oakland, 22,000 seat Frank Youell Field which was named after a local undertaker before moving the Oakland Coliseum a few years later.

The Bills had Jack Kemp and Warren Rabb at QB, and Ernie Gilchrist at RB. The Titans had Al Dorow and Johnny Green at QB, Jack Grantham at LB, Bill Mathis at RB.
