i love watching kibler play, he is in clutch situations and even though he is in thils top situation he is joking around like it was still the swiss rounds...amazing
amazing tournament play. The highest caliber of players with great coverage, and really lets you see how to think through your moves when playing the game. I recommend anyone who plays magic to watch this video.
I was wondering the same thing the first time I saw it happen. Apparently it helps keep players focused so they don't give away emotion or their hand. In essence, it helps them keep their "poker face". People tend to do various things with their hands when they are nervous or confident, so they constantly shuffle those cards in hand to keep a consistent action going that their opponent can't get a read off of.
People complaining about Kibler shuffling, talking and fidgeting.......would you honestly rather watch 2 guys sit there silently with there hands on there thighs taking 5 minutes a piece to make every move?
I'm also a fan, but copying without putting in your own ideas with stifle your growth as a player - even if you just second-guess and change a few cards or alter the sideboard to better fit your local meta, it will still help you become a better player by getting a deeper understanding of the game.
@BrianWarner1996 Paulo is BRAZILIAN, one of the only countries in South America that don't have Spanish as the main language; it's Portuguese for Brazil. Just because something's "below the border" is not Hispanic/Mexican/Spanish.
Wolf Run has kinda become like jund. In 2009 Jund was in the finals of Worlds, and the final two decks of PT San Diego. Wolf Run was in the finals of worlds, and both decks in the finals here. Pretty dominant deck!
@xh1199 There were so many different decks played at pro tour, just because 2 of the winners were wolf run doesn't mean anything regarding the viability of other decks in this format. But you wouldn't know that since you probably took one look at the winning decks, and calle dit a day.
It also makes it harder for the oppanant to tell which card has just been topped deck and to stop players from learning information by the way you sort your hand
oh so it varies from different pro tours? I think i get it. Block constructed can only happen when the third set comes out right? aw i wouldve liked to see what people could do with only innistrad and dark ascension... eh
gate crash had: Esper by ben stark. UWR by Joel larson and UWR by Thompson Wolfrun bant by mellisa detora. The aristocrats by martell. Jund by stephan mann and .owen. Frodog millionaire played an aggresive version of naya. it did not feature tusks in the main deck. So 3/8, the top 8 was dominated by reckoner(which is starting to fall out of favour recently)
I guess for some maybe. Like I said before, it helps me focus and think, just like pacing when talking on the phone helps me focus and think during a conversation. Some of it may be habit, but I don't think I'm the one with a disorder if someone else can get distracted so easily by hand shuffling. To each their own I guess.
Except now it's so commonplace that it only annoys and doesn't distract anymore. Magic players typically can multitask. So for instance, I can be annoyed by something, but still focus on the task at hand, with minimal negative effects from being annoyed. You are right however that when it first started cropping up that it was distracting. That tactic though doesn't do much, but raise the blood pressure of your opponent.
people need to stop complaining about the shuffling in Kibler's hand. I see how it is annoying to us, but it is meant to distract the opponent..and based on how many people complain about it, it's clearly annoying enough to merit its worth.
Pri-Me-Val. That's how three dictionary sites say it's pronounced. So when it's said altogether it sounds like "Prime Evil". Also if you listen carefully to their audio sample of it, it sounds even more like Pry-Mevil. Honestly not picking a side on it, I wasn't sure either so I looked it up.
@GageLeeHughes Oh! That explains a lot. But I still find it a bit dull... There are the same steps and the same idea: 1. Get mana 2. Get Primeval Titan 3. Get the Inkmoth and the Kessig Wolf-Run. 4. Charge!!! Well... If I'd play against them, I'd use Torpor Orb :D:D That would ruin it:D:D
He could be answering questions on Wizards Facebook page or something like that. I doubt he would just log onto Facebook in the middle of the Pro Tour for no reason; someone would probably say something to him.
@imthebeastfly he meant say i play Huntmaster then next turn you do then i play land go, Yours triggers then mine triggers ontop of the stack transforms and spikes you and your master for 2 damage killing your master leaving mine alive, very tricky stack ruling, somewhat confusuing i kniw xD
i need help i am in the process of building a wolf run deck i was wondering do u run brimstone valleys in it and if so how many if any one can help me please PM me or respond to this comment? please and thank you.
@farleymeaghan It matters because this is the very highest and most professional level of playing and it shows lack of professionalism not enforcing rules like having token cards for types that your deck will generate The same way when a few games ago they had to go back on a game because a wolf token was suposed to get destroyed but wasn't, and from the 3 people watching the game nobody said a word It matters for the general acceptance of magic as a skill based competitve game
i like the card flickering i wish i could do that not so i could do it often but just cause it would be cool but i have like no coordination so i can't do it lol
The constant problem with Standard. Your opponent can put you on your 'outs' better than in Legacy. But playing magic at all for a human is a matter of preference.
@metra111 A CPU is a single part of a computer. What he is on, isn't even a PC. It's a mac. So you're wrong on multiple fronts, even if he is on Facebook.
what i dont understand is this is game 5 its obv whoever misses their acceleration loses, why did Paulo keep that game 5 hand. just silly in my opinion
how are mirrors boring? The Players know what each player have in their deck and it's about actually outplaying your opponent, instead of having a good/bad matchup or a better deck.
He hoped Kibs would miss one turn of acceleration so he'd be able to catch up. He took a risk, it failed. I'm more angry about game three when he zenith'd for a slime when one turn later he has a titan for that zenith
How do the people make their decks in these tournaments? Can they make their own deck as long as they stick to the cards from this year? or did they have one of them there booster drafts from the start?
its not about any of that, at least not for most people, i shuffle my cards because really i have nothing else to do, also sometimes its relaxing, don't shuffle them so intense as kibler though lol
I doubt I could take option B in a pro tour though. It just seems unfair to those people who are annoyed by the constant swiping and clicking noise along with the constant movement. There are no formal rules against doing things that are annoying, although if I started singing halfway through a match because it calmed me down and annoyed my opponent, I'd probably be asked to stop by either the player or judge. I'd honestly prefer some random guy singing as opposed to him just auto-shuffling.
i love watching kibler play, he is in clutch situations and even though he is in thils top situation he is joking around like it was still the swiss rounds...amazing
I came back just to watch this 11 years later LOL
Never forget when a hearthstone content creator took down Elite Spellbinder :D
amazing tournament play. The highest caliber of players with great coverage, and really lets you see how to think through your moves when playing the game. I recommend anyone who plays magic to watch this video.
Had no idea PVDDR was a dirty lands in front player.
thank god he lost
@@daniellambeth6769 🤣
Almost came down to the comment section, but then I remembered I didn't want spoilers...

CGB sent me here.
People complaining about Kibler shuffling, talking and fidgeting.......would you honestly rather watch 2 guys sit there silently with there hands on there thighs taking 5 minutes a piece to make every move?
I thought to myself: 'Hey, they fixed the sound and reuploaded it!'...
Nope.
that moonmist artwork is really sick, Ryan Yee really captured the essence of the card.
Both are used for different parts of the tournament. This is the final match in the Constructed(type 2) format. The draft format is seperate.
I wonder is PVDDR is still a lands in front guy?
I'm also a fan, but copying without putting in your own ideas with stifle your growth as a player - even if you just second-guess and change a few cards or alter the sideboard to better fit your local meta, it will still help you become a better player by getting a deeper understanding of the game.
He was more than likely posting and responding to questions on the facebook page.
hes on the MTG website, hes posting what is updated during the matches.
@TimEddyHughes totally agree on your comment.
.....except the fact they did fixed the audio.
i love watching kibler. he rocks.
Probably posting updates of the game on facebook and twitter.
@BrianWarner1996 Paulo is BRAZILIAN, one of the only countries in South America that don't have Spanish as the main language; it's Portuguese for Brazil. Just because something's "below the border" is not Hispanic/Mexican/Spanish.
these guys could go through one set of Dragonshields in a night the way they shuffle!
I think Kibler's shuffling is beast. I play magic and personally shuffling your hand is an addiction. If you notice basically all the pros do it
Wolf Run has kinda become like jund. In 2009 Jund was in the finals of Worlds, and the final two decks of PT San Diego. Wolf Run was in the finals of worlds, and both decks in the finals here. Pretty dominant deck!
Watching this in 2018.
iPhone 4S merch hype. :D
because if they put it any higher the players will be able to hear what they are saying while they are trying to concentrate
it's not to distract the opponent... a lot of card game players do it, it's a habit a lot of people pick up, just with different methods
@xh1199 There were so many different decks played at pro tour, just because 2 of the winners were wolf run doesn't mean anything regarding the viability of other decks in this format. But you wouldn't know that since you probably took one look at the winning decks, and calle dit a day.
Same hairstyle, Same Hand shuffle, and Almost same decks. Priceless.
Good coverage, but I think the audio needs to be tuned up. I have it cranked and can barely listen to the commentary.
It also makes it harder for the oppanant to tell which card has just been topped deck and to stop players from learning information by the way you sort your hand
@pokeplayer935 No not the deck shuffling..the way he shuffles the cards in his current hand. Like the ones he is going to use.
oh so it varies from different pro tours? I think i get it. Block constructed can only happen when the third set comes out right? aw i wouldve liked to see what people could do with only innistrad and dark ascension... eh
Turn up your volume!
ah the good ol days, before standard was all thragtusk, back when delver and wolf run ramp were the big decks. I miss it.
@latensi They were on the same team and developed the list together. They didn't just go online and copy and paste a list.
did u see the huntmaster :)
just went to SCG and looked at their last 3 opens and its a 4 of in at least ONE of the top 3 decks in each open. But not popular right?
Normally I try not to be bothered by hand shuffling, as I even do it myself, but Brian moves so fast it's actually nauseating.
How do you know they aren't communicating through facebook PM's, or even checking comments from viewers to see if he mislooked something?
gate crash had:
Esper by ben stark.
UWR by Joel larson and UWR by Thompson
Wolfrun bant by mellisa detora.

Why is the sound always so low on the pro tour coverage?
59:03 the scattered applause and mostly quiet, solemn ceremony was very awkward to watch.
How many primevals are in the deck?
how much did kibler win in prize money?
i love the sommon of brest out of no where in the back in frame 11.43
people need to stop complaining about the shuffling in Kibler's hand. I see how it is annoying to us, but it is meant to distract the opponent..and based on how many people complain about it, it's clearly annoying enough to merit its worth.
Maybe for the Live comments?
@TheKomsire22
lol what do you think a mac is?
Imagine how much more PVD would have won if he didn't constantly curse himself by playing his lands in front. Poor guy.
Whens Avacyn Restored vid coming?
@TheJessegyr A lot of people do it because it helps them concentrate.
anyone know where I can find original innistrsd pro tour? maybe a link
There wasn't a Pro Tour for Innistrad, but Worlds 2011 was Top 8 Standard around that time.
@GageLeeHughes Oh! That explains a lot. But I still find it a bit dull... There are the same steps and the same idea:
1. Get mana
2. Get Primeval Titan

@AngryZurka the game is all about learning how to win and lose with class, and how to treat people, even though they are competitors, with dignity
it makes it to where we don't have as much stress. Why does it matter to you what others do? Focus on yourself. Other people aren't your concern,
@metra111 time stamp?
Brian kibler back to back.
also, it was in 4/8 decks in the top 8 of pro tour gatecrash. Please look things up before you argue lol
its also to distract the opponent, and so that don't think you are holding one card in your hand for any specific reason.
Finally, I'm not the only one bothered nearly to death by that shuffling.
I get RSI watching Kibler shuffle his cards
He could be answering questions on Wizards Facebook page or something like that. I doubt he would just log onto Facebook in the middle of the Pro Tour for no reason; someone would probably say something to him.
yes, reckoner was the main beatstick of PTGTC, but to say Thragtusk isnt popular anymore is crazy
exactly! my sister had 2 play him and she was so distracted she was making play mistakes, it's strategy every1
yes but is your deck type II?
That judge's job is to update pro tour facebook page with text play by play of the matches... so, yes, it is professional.
39:48 Brian didn't cut Paulo's deck.
i need help i am in the process of building a wolf run deck i was wondering do u run brimstone valleys in it and if so how many if any one can help me please PM me or respond to this comment? please and thank you.
how about the top 8?
@farleymeaghan
It matters because this is the very highest and most professional level of playing and it shows lack of professionalism not enforcing rules like having token cards for types that your deck will generate

@ TatsuMakiSeppuKyaku Ok, thanks, I wasn't sure about that.
I thought these were supposed to be block constructed?
The constant problem with Standard. Your opponent can put you on your 'outs' better than in Legacy. But playing magic at all for a human is a matter of preference.
The thing I like about magic is not playing the meta game and making a super weird deck that people dont expect...cause they plan for the meta game.
These guys made the decks big
@metra111 A CPU is a single part of a computer. What he is on, isn't even a PC. It's a mac. So you're wrong on multiple fronts, even if he is on Facebook.
what i dont understand is this is game 5 its obv whoever misses their acceleration loses, why did Paulo keep that game 5 hand. just silly in my opinion
I constantly shuffle my hand when playing card games as well
how are mirrors boring? The Players know what each player have in their deck and it's about actually outplaying your opponent, instead of having a good/bad matchup or a better deck.
probably on the wizards facebook.
people make those things for companies you know.
i always find the award ceremony to be kind of awkward loll
Kibler! Keep somewhat still!
He hoped Kibs would miss one turn of acceleration so he'd be able to catch up. He took a risk, it failed. I'm more angry about game three when he zenith'd for a slime when one turn later he has a titan for that zenith
The computer guy is on Facebook at around 23:00
anyone else sleeving while watching this? lol
Paolo is pretty old school, playing with his lands in the front. Ahhh the good ol' days! :D
More like Pro Tours with Brian Kibler.
still no sound
Shouldn't the 2 primeval titans cancel each other out?
@latensi This deck is quite fun. It's a worse version and a better version of Valakut from last standard. But titans still have attack triggers. :)
huntmaster isnt a legendary creature why would they cancel out?
I doubt I could take option B in a pro tour though. It just seems unfair to those people who are annoyed by the constant swiping and clicking noise along with the constant movement.
There are no formal rules against doing things that are annoying, although if I started singing halfway through a match because it calmed me down and annoyed my opponent, I'd probably be asked to stop by either the player or judge. I'd honestly prefer some random guy singing as opposed to him just auto-shuffling.
What's the point of shuffling your hand repeatedly like that? I mean what not just fan out your cards to see what everything is?
@lozfactor usually 4 in both decks
