    Great video! I never minded the old tie downs until I got the ratchet style, I wouldn't want to go back now.
    Thanks for the shout out!! AH-BOOM.

    We just got our 2021 212XE in the water. After 4 days of use I knew the factory buckles need to go. We put in on the northeastern end of Cayuga so it’s almost a 2hr drive. I always have to stop and tighten them down. I should have my boat buckles by Friday. I can’t wait to install. Great video thanks!

    Hey Capt. Leon…When I picked up my 2021 195S two months ago, and had one of the Yamaha supplied tie down come loose on the way home from the dealer. Knew right away, they had to go. I installed similar ratcheting buckles on my trailer…what a difference! Thanks for another great video.

      The boat will shift forward if not up tight against the front roller, which will cause the OEM buckles to loosen.

    Installed my SS boat buckles today in the exact location as yours. One of my best investments...I DID NOT add a spacer as previously suggested. The straps are free and clear (as long as the boat is on straight)

    Capt Leon, I think you were sold on them once you saw them on the 252SE, right?

  • @rossevans1774
    @rossevans1774 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why? At that strap angle, regardless of how much you crank that strap down it will not prevent the boat lifting off the trailer. This installation is 'Two thumbs down'. The purpose of those Boat Buckles is to pull the boat directly down 'vertically' on to the trailer.

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
      @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore  ปีที่แล้ว

      While I agree with you Ross, on that boat trailer combo there is no way to install the straps in a vertical position. Even the OEM comparable set up has them where mine were installed. I suppose it's better than nothing, but you're right.

    • @rossevans1774
      @rossevans1774 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore Agreed I am also tired of the 'modifications', but then my wife says it keeps me out of the house! Your boat/trailer design is a problem when trying to mount those great ratchet straps correctly. Again, those straps are to pull the boat directly DOWN onto the trailer, to make the boat and trailer move as one. The angle you have those straps exerts little to zero DOWN force. Those straps are only pulling the boat forward onto the winch post. I had a similar problem and had to do yet another workshop 'modification' to my trailer. Your combo is a little more difficult, to get that down force maybe throw the strap over the top of the boat?

  • @squeaky61
    @squeaky61 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    you're not bored...its dedication to being efficient... and you like things smooth! did you silicone by the washer, or is it a hollow tube, and salt water can drain out the bottom? If it was a tub/4 side piece I drilled into I would have silicone'd... but I know nothing and maybe the ends are open so it doesn't matter?

  • @GiantsNinerFan56
    @GiantsNinerFan56 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why not put a spacer between the buckle and frame and the strap will be free of ant contact. Maybe one or two stainless steel washers is all. I will be mounting mine in the same location, but will add a spacer. I love your videos, comical too.

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore

    • @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
      @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trevor they want the strap to pull straight off the reel and return back as straight as possible, that would be 0 degrees. Watch my video at the 7:50 mark, mine is almost at 0%. They will allow up to 30 degrees if it being pulled slightly off straight. This has nothing to do with the orientation of the mounted buckle mechanism. Hope that explains it, thanks for watching!

    I just have to say, that this is the 4th Video that has suggested using a 7/16th Drill Bit!
    Like WTF guys......the Bolt is a 1/2" Bolt.....so...try as you might, That 1/2" Bolt is not going to make it, through any 7/16th Hole!
    I keep my boat 1/2 hour drive from our place.
    So....to get all the way out there, to discover that I needed a 1/2" Drill Bit.....Pissed me OFF!
    Yes......I should have checked the Bolt and Nut before I headed out, so that is on me.
    BUT......I just thought, that after watching 4 Videos on this "SIMPLE" install........that these 4 guys, knew what they were talking about?
    I won't make that Mistake again.
    Its a HALF INCH BOLT people.......Take a HALF INCH Drill Bit with you.....Just in case!
    DOH!

      Ray, are you implying that 4 separate unconnected TH-cam creators each decided to incorrectly state the size of the drill bit they used? For real bro? I’m very careful in the free content and guidance I provide to my viewers. I’m methodical in following manufactures suggestions and guidance. I don’t know the size of the bolts your product came with, as you say that’s on you, but my bolts, my drill bit and even the instructions all said 7/16. Worked perfectly! Thanks for watching.

    If you are looking at buying these things for your boat, DON'T!!
    I put these things on my brand new aluminum trailer to hold my boat, thinking that all f the "reviews" were good.
    After the VERY FIRST trip to the water, the next time out they became hard to release.
    I then took them off, sprayed them inside with corrosion X, lithium grease and even MAX WAX!!
    They made three trips to the water, after the third trip I had to cut the straps with my knife to release my boat from the trailer.
    I currently have two giant chunks of rusted together garbage to show for my money.
    DO NOT BUY, unless you like throwing your money away.
