Literally just came across this because one of the songs from the musical came up on my spotify shuffle. And now I'm sitting in my bedroom crying in the middle of a random monday.
The first time I saw it on Broadway I didn’t cry until the final scene. The second time saw it I started crying at the opening scene and stopped about 20 minutes after curtain call! I was in the military next to the Pentagon on 9/11. So many suppressed emotions came out (in a healthy way) because of this production! About the time I first saw this I got a dog to train for FEMA Urban search and rescue. His registered AKC name was “TBS Start of a Moment” after this musical! But his nickname-- “Gander” of course!
This first time I watched this scene, and heard this song I got chills. I constantly get chills watching it again and again. The different languages, the prayers for help and peace, moved me when I first saw this. It’s emotional and should be spoken more about
I’m here after learning a lot more about 9/11 and sobbing my eyes out. I’m 13 and it was a lot to take in and it was very deep learning about it at school
You are just a year older than I was when it happened and now I have a child who is almost 12 and I think often about the world I grew up in and how different it is for you guys today. I hope you can try to find the hope and love of humanity that is so present in this show, even if the world feels so devoid of it these days.
So glad I got to see this on the West End in November before it closed!! It was Me and the Sky that got me into the cast recording but seeing the Apple TV pro shot solidified my love for the musical. Such a beautiful story about community coming together in a time of crisis!!
Just back from the UK tour production. Have also seen the show twice in London. This song was the one that got to me and tonight was no different. Had me sobbing.
Newfoundlanders are open minded and loving people. Salt of the earth types and non-judgmental Bring them all peoples to be embraced This is the Canada that I know !
Does anyone have translations for the non-English prayers? Or transliteration even? I have a weekly prayer group where we rotate who gives the 'prayer' at the beginning of our meeting and sometimes we just share videos. I want to share this as an example of multiple belief systems / faiths all praying for one thing (-ish at least), but would love to be able to know what the others are praying, if possible.
The Hebrew prayer is Oseh shalom which means. May God who caused peace to reign in the high heavens, create peace for us and on all Israel. This prayer comes from “Kaddish” to bring peace upon all people
So here’s the thing. In Islam, it is a big no-no for prayers and music to mix. The prayers themselves have a very melodic tone to them. However, the focus is on the prayer itself. With no distractions. Playing music while these prayers are being said is extremely disrespectful so I’m actually very glad they added this touch. It proves that they did their homework.
Love musical theatre but just cannot get into this show. Got the cast recording - didn’t like it! Saw the show - didn’t like it! I’m really surprised it has garnered the support it has. We’re all individual and everyone has their own taste - this one has just passed me by.
Seeing this show live is one of the most beautiful experiences I've ever had in a theatre (and I've seen a lot of shows!). I really recommend seeing it live, if you're ever curious and can find a cheap enough ticket to take a risk on something you think you'll dislike. There's a reason it's so beloved and I think you'd be hard-pushed to leave the show still feeling unsure about it.
@@meg4216 I seen it in October the first time I went to London and this was the first time I saw live theatre since 2019 I think but it was a long time but this musical is absolutely incredible
I get that. It's very very overwhelming, especially on a first or second listen/watch. There's so much they're doing, and hardly any time to take it in, that it can take a few goes before it clicks. As you say though, not every show is for every person. But CFA is definitely one worth investing the time in to at least understand what OTHER people see in it, even if it's not something YOU particularly enjoy 😊
I absolutely love this musical and the kindness shown to the plane people on this horrible day in the US. Love this song. The rabbi is singing Sim Shalom which means Let there be peace.
I can’t help but choke up during this scene! Come From Away is quite an under-appreciated musical in general
If there’s ever a guaranteed way to make me cry it’s this entire musical-but especially this song
Literally just came across this because one of the songs from the musical came up on my spotify shuffle. And now I'm sitting in my bedroom crying in the middle of a random monday.
This one and Me and the Sky - when she sings that what she loves most in the world was used as the bomb. Cue ugly crying.
Truth.
It's the bit where the rabbi gives the other guy a kippah that gets me every time
this is one of the most powerful songs in all of musical theatre and you cant change my mind
absolutely!! One of the single most beautiful depictions of religion I have ever seen. A real tool for peace, connection, and healing
This will always make me cry. My husband took me to this production on Broadway on my 61st birthday. Thank you.
I love this show so much, I just bought tickets to the tour. This will be my third time seeing the show
This song has been on my mind so much recently. People really need to hear it.
Same here.
Ive seen Come From Away twice in the West End, Last time i sobbed allthe way through it, espeical this bit it is so beautiful!

As a Jew, I find myself revisiting this recently. Makes me hope peace and harmony is possible...somehow.
Likewise. It reminds us that all religions share the same hope for peace and love, the same message from different cultures.

Nick in the west end production is my absolute favourite. Wish I could have seen it live one more time..
First time seeing this cast…so beautiful! The Holocaust story always gets me because I’m Jewish. 😭✡️🇮🇱🎭🎶

They should have included sound in Muslim prayer too.
