  • The Setting:
    It's a grey Winter's day and I've been out on a quick scout. Other than the crows, the woods have been quiet. As I take in the silence, I observe my surroundings. With my main trapping camp still a few miles away, I decide to warm myself with a small fire and a quick meal of Bannock at one of my established shelters along the trail...in the silence, all is well.
    Disclaimer: This is for entertainment. I don't claim to be a professional nor 100% accurate. I'm not a reenactor but I do enjoy keeping history alive...if you are unable to see past historical inaccuracies for the sake of entertainment, then this video is probably not for you.
    Where's my rifle?: Although I'm pretending to be in the early 1800's, this is indeed current times and where this is filmed, walking around with a firearm is frowned upon.
    Camera: Canon SL2

    I’m a reenactor. I’ve been doing a Canadian Milice living history impression since the 1990s. Love your videos. Flint and steel was more common technology of the 1750s. Love your camp. And like your tobacco holder. I appreciate you doing the videos. I just subd

      Thanks for subbing, glad you stumbled on to my site. I’ve never been a part of reenacting group but I do enjoy keeping history alive. I was probably born 150 years to late. Always good to hear from like minded folks. Take care…keep your tinder dry!!

      Wow, what a surprise! How’s it going Man?? It’s been a while since I’ve seen you on the Tube, hopefully that means life is good and you’re just staying busy. I know my presence on here has definitely slowed. Think I only do 2-3 videos a year if that. Heck, right now we’re just trying to get through this brutal Summer heat. We’ve been bouncing between 102 and 106 the last 4 weeks. At this rate, it may be November before things cool off enough for me to want to film something.
      It’s a real nice spot when it’s not a sweat box, haha! Man, I really hope life is going good for you Ben. I’m glad you popped by, it’s always good hearing from you! Take care buddy!!

      Dale, things are going good. yes, like everyone else staying busy. But the call of the woods is a strong one and one can only stay away for so long. I had to come on here and see what All my TH-cam buddies were up to. This was such a well done video. it’s always great to get lost in a different world even if it’s just for a short time. 106° sounds absolutely brutal though, I don’t even know what I would do with that type of heat. I hope you guys get a break at some point and can you find some time to enjoy yourself. I too wanna jump back on here once I get organized. videos like this are a big motivation to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. All the best my friend stay safe and God bless! Ben

      Making a video with no words can be tricky at times. Glad you both found it entertaining. The pipe I used in this video is one I made out of mesquite about 3 years ago. I was enjoying Sutliff’s Molto Dolce tobacco in it. I appreciate you guys stopping by and checking it out. Take care!

      Thank you sir, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I gotta admit I’m a little rusty on some of my wilderness skills but I was happy to see I managed to get a flame from the bow drill. Of course, I’m sure you know, having the right materials makes all the difference. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!

    Great job Dale on that bow drill fire. Friction fire is hard to master and I still can't put together a bow drill set out of natural materials that consistently work.

      Well, I gotta admit, I’m pretty rusty on my wilderness skills. So I was pretty surprised that I managed to get a flame going from the Ol bow drill. I’ve had a lot luck with cottonwood, yucca, and basswood. In this video I used a yucca hearth board and a basswood spindle. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. It’s always good hearing from you. Take care!!

    Nice work there Dale. Think I'd have a comfy seat made for that shelter and chillax a bit more. What sort of wood are you using to build and burn?

    • @OntheTrailwithDale
      @OntheTrailwithDale  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The shelter is totally built out of Cedar. The little pocket of woods I’m in is mostly a cedar thicket with a few oaks, pecans and cottonwoods sprinkled in. The fire wood I’m using is all oak. Most of it downed 2 years ago when we had the ice/snow storm pass through here. Thanks for stopping by, always good hearing from you.

    Dale Are you a regular pipe smoker at home or just in woods Alex Mirzoeff Royersford Pa how often do you light up?

    • @OntheTrailwithDale
      @OntheTrailwithDale  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn’t describe myself as a regular pipe smoker. It’s mostly a cold weather hobby. It gives me something to do while I sit around the campfire. I mainly only smoke my pipe in the Fall and Winter, although I do find myself enjoying it more and more these days. I live in Texas and smoking a pipe just isn’t fun when it’s 100 degrees outside. I guess that could be said for a lot of things, haha! Thanks for watching!

    where did you go?

    • @OntheTrailwithDale
      @OntheTrailwithDale  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m still here. Summer time is usually when I hibernate. The Texas heat makes it too unbearable to get out and film anything so I typically stay indoors this time of year. Fall and Winter is usually my window to film stuff. Although, I just went to Ruidoso New Mexico to escape this heat for a few days and managed to bring my camera along. So I got a couple of videos in the works. Keep an eye out for those. Take care, always good hearing from ya.
