I know people are gonna disagree with me on this. But I think crosshair overlays take away from the uniqueness of rust. It turns the game more into cod, which just ruins the game in a way. But then again, for pvp sakes it is indeed fun, and i do see why people use them.

3rd party software is 3rd party software and people using it should get banned. If the rust devs are going to take no action against it, they should include it in their game so players have a level playing field. Same with night time, if people are going to use NVIDIA settings to see at night, rust devs should make it part of their game.

Majority of 1080p monitors these days have them built in, if your not playing on at least a 1080p panel in 2022 your all ready at a disadvantage anyway,

It's personnal preference. I play without cause I'm used to it, I'm good with hipfire and have been for years. I don't really think it gives you that much of an edge if you play the game a lot tho
The spaz is good with practically any shell, but of course close range… it is a shotgun after all. Great for base defense/door campers. We actually put 3 spaz’s in turrets on our first floor; one right above our bunker entrance, since the first floor is so sectioned off and close quarters, any door raider is likely to get physically abused. They have their uses.

Originally, I licked a piece of cellophane, stuck it to the center of the screen. Walked up to a box, or door, or any other ingame item you can interact with. Used a sharpie to fill in the dot the game provided. But more recently, I just went to the microsoft store, and downloaded "crosshair v2.0" for free. Next step of course, is just buy a moniter that provides it as a built in feature.

This man knows his shit. 5600 hours in rust here. Listen to this guy. What he didn't mention about weapon sway is that the scope pulls off center if you are moving fast. On a boat the scope is wrong. From a heli, the scope is wrong. On the big boat the scope is fucking wrong. From a car, and whatever else they add... the scope is fucking wrong. The bullet goes toward the dead center of the screen always and there is no conservation of momentum as of last time I played. Each shot is as if you were standing still.
Or just do what people did back in the day, find the center of your screen and place a small dot on it 🤣 (no, I don't, never have, but I'm 40, I've seen it plenty growing up). I know my monitor (Acer Predator Z35P) has an option for a cross hair, I personally wouldn't be able to play with something distracting me like that, I'm more into the visuals of a game and not using things or methods to give myself an advantage (cross hair, low graphics settings, ECT).....I crank my graphics settings as high as my card will allow, my view distance the same, I like enjoying my game, one of the reasons why I only have about 4hrs total in Rust probably lol....I love watching people play it, would personally love to play, I'm just not that much into PVP anymore, plus I don't have the multiple hours each day to invest in Rust in which it needs, which sucks, it really is a dope ass game, so I'm stuck playing my BeamNG, some occasional DayZ SA, and some Arma(AW DayZ Mod, Epoch, Origins, A3 Exile, A3S, ECT).

the laser sight doesnt actually work like that. and even if it did, its not like you can just pop 999 laser sights into existence and attach them to every weapon in the game
One thing I’ll say from my own personal and competitive experience is…. Crosshairs are actually a crutch and hinder your overall improvement at fps games. What you actually want to get good at is learning how to keep your screen centered. I’ve played multiple games competitively and some didn’t have a crosshair. I did use my monitors crosshair for Rust when I first started playing and noticed I was getting lazy at keeping my screen centered, and overall, was getting lazy with my shots. Once I turned it off again, I’m back to beaming. No matter what weapon on what game, hip fire, quick scope, hard scoping for distance shots…. It’s all the same if you’re good at keeping your screen centered

I have almost 6k and tried using a crosshair recently since facepunch directly told me it was allowed and I didn't want to be at a disavantage compared to others and my bow pvp was legit worse with the crosshair because it made me lose the musscle memory of aiming higher for the drop. Took the crosshair back off and I was much better xD.

Considering the skill gap and general toxicity of Rust, I think it's fair for less skilled players to at least be able to put up a fight

The downside to this is that the cursor moves slightly while moving your mouse. I find it annoying.
