I worked for a few years building metal racks just like you made. You did it like we used to do it -- professional fabrication technique. As much as they teach you to do vertical welds upward, MIG is so much easier rolling downward that we always did it that way, except where strength was critical. Of course when doing roll bars we always did 7018 stick welding and used an upward technique in that situation. I'd love to see a photo of the finished product -- good job.
Nice 👍 Video, Thanks Brother! Also, nice life in your shop, thanks on my wish list! Maybe I missed your information but what gauge steel did you use? I will wait for you to post a response!
Hey, I was in the same boat as you with the sizes but watch this video. It's more of a sales video but at the start he goes through the materials they used.
I'm about to pick up a JD2 model 3 bender to build a rack for my truck and plan on doing some on the side for extra $$$. Anyone have any advice on steel round tube size? I want to go with 1.5" for the sake of cost for material and die set but feel like a might regret not going with 1.75 (for strength and if I want to build a roll cage some day).... Any feed back on the JD2 model 3 bender also? Thanks guys!

We decided, the owner did a great job and deserved that beer and pizza. Now we leave here and move to the installing video.
