- Relax and drift off to sleep as I flip through a 1969-70 Western Auto catalog and comment on the items within. This vintage catalog is a wonderful time capsule that people of all ages will find fascinating. Hopefully this video will relax you enough to fall asleep.
My videos are best enjoyed using headphones or earbuds.
This is video number 547 of this channel.
The videos on my TH-cam channel portray some of the typical day-to-day activities that I do for relaxation. This video was produced with relaxation in mind and hopefully has some ASMR qualities. Too much stress is harmful to your well-being and in today’s fast-paced world, stress management is more important than ever, and so I hope this ASMR video acts as a stress reliever for those watching and a sleep-aid for anyone having a difficult time falling asleep.

I am 56 years old and you managed to bring me back to my childhood. Thank you for all off your effort you put in your videos and all the best from the Netherlands.
Ooo the netherlands? Hows it like over there😮
@@Disvade very good! Nice weather and nice folks! Where are you from?
@@peterheinhuis3020I just got back from over there, Defqon.1 with friends. And I was also there for a week and a half back in April and two weeks in February. What a beautiful country. I just started traveling there this year all the way from America. 😇
Dat is wel heel toevallig joh
Nou en of 😂
Another thought came to me. There are so Many people you have touched in a positive way. It takes a special person to do this type of work without wanting the notoriety of being "famous". You have earned our respect and admiration and yet we don't know your name or what you look like. I feel as though I truly know you though, through your stories. It has made me realize that a person's name or how they look has nothing to do with who they are. Cheers to you!
Howdy. I have been watching your channel for about 10 years now. I have never commented but I have always been a subscriber. I didn't realize how much I relied on your work for sleep and relaxation until the past couple of months when the videos slowed down a bit and I learned that I missed them.
I wanted to finally say THANK YOU. I know you have been going through some things and we are all thinking about you and appreciate you more than you may know!
Thank you for taking the time to tell me this:)
There is nobody 55 or older that doesn't truly appreciate this. Just fantastic. Reminds me of the old S $ H Green stamps days and their catalogue. Love to see that again.
I'm 32 and I just learned about the stamp programs from the grocery store. And I thought that collecting Canadian Tire money took up space! Haha
I'll be 53 in November... This is so reminiscent of the 70's when I was growing up. I had a one speed Columbia 20 inch bike with banana seat and high rise handlebars that I bought from my neighbor for $5 that I loved. On the way home with it I went right over the handlebars on their steep driveway not wearing a shirt, got some wicked road rash on my chest and broke my glasses 😏. Rode wheelies on that thing all the time...Used wadded aluminum foil to remove light rust from the chrome. Thank you for an excellent relaxing video 😁 Western Auto really had it going on 😉
I would like you to know, I have been watching you for around the last two and a half years or so. But never had a TH-cam account, but recently said you know what, let’s make one. So I would like to thank you dearly for the awesome quality content over the years. I fall asleep to your videos every night. Ive gotten into pens and you’ve reignited me into a lot of different things and I think I’ve become a better person because of you. So if you see this, Thank you
Oh Yeahhhh
I like your profile picture, Blue Boat
@@A-Ls1 it’s a default TH-cam icon bec I just made this account
Yes, I made it through to the end. I thought this would make a good sleeper, but it was to nostalgic and interesting. I think we are close in age. I was born in 1956 and all your references to what you had or did at certain ages line right up to mine! I have been listening for about 8 years or so and this was by far my favorite. Listening to your life stories bring such calm and warmth. You have led such a blessed life, thank you for sharing the memories with us. That catalog, '(Something) Auto', really had it going on!
$500 in 1969 is staggering really. I remember my dad in mid-late 70’s spending £800 on a 3-in-1 system. He did like his tech. Our house in 1975 was purchased for £9000 I think. Imagine spending nearly 10% the value of your property on a SINGLE hifi now!!
That’s a great comparison of prices! That TV cost a good chunk of the price of a house!
8:47 8:48
I so love the rain and thunder as you chat, thank you
Im several years younger than the catalog, but it brings back memories! The men smoking Pipes, when I was a kid so many men in the family smoked pipes! I couldnt tell you the last time I saw anyone smoking a pipe. My grandfather had a glass door rifle cabinet. Never in a million years would us kids even touch it, let alone open it. I guess time does fly, as they say.
Love the catalog videos, especially older ones like this!
Is like having an American grand dad showing me this catalogue. Super cozy and relaxing 😴👍👍
I'm Norwegian, but I do have US relatives.
I used to spend as long as it took to go through the annual Sears catalog which was probably about an inch thick. Id pretend I was shopping for my whole life and had nothing but a big empty house. I'd choose curtains and garden decor, clothing and piwer tools. I was 8 years old.
This has been so much fun to listen to. Thank you.
You never miss,Sir. Your content has helped me on many restless nights for a couple years now. Your work is appreciated. Thank you.
Western Auto really had it going on!
Very much enjoyed the video - keeps my mental state nice and quiet and helps me have a calm sunday afternoon
I’m 65 and just love you’re videos just remembering the dinette sets, we had one, oh and I have two items I do iron, California. Also so happy to see you back you were missed, I had a red wagon
Catalogues such as these were much before my time, I was born in 2002. However I feel an odd fondess and sort of vicarious nostalgia whilst browsing along during this. Thank you for the excellent video as always, have an above average day! All the best, -Patrick
It's absolutely one of my favorite videos. I keep coming back to it, at least a few nights a week. Thank you so much for helping me fall asleep
Thank you for being part of almost every night of mine for over three years now. 😌
Sometimes, i try to put other Asmrtists, but i never fall asleep as fast as with you.
Your voice is just the smoothest. It soothes me every time.
I wish you and the people you care about health, longevity and peace of mind ❤
It's because he's not trying too hard making weird sounds or whispering in a binaural mic or anything, he just enjoys flipping through these catalogs wish us and sharing his various passions.
I had to rewatch this video(actually several nights) its one of my go to videos because of the amazing sounds of the rain, your voice, the horse hair wisk, and that spinng knife sound, sorry about all my comments, but I love falling asleep to your sounds
I was very tired and played this right as I lied down for an afternoon nap. I couldn't tell you when I fell asleep (must've been almost instantaneous) but I woke up around the time you were looking at the tires. Your voice had been narrating something in my dream, something completely unrelated.
(edit:)
Wow, I was curious so just went back a couple of minutes in the video.... Some of the things you say are "had to be replaced", "wiper blades"(where the word "purple" could be understood), and "jacks" - well, the last part of my dream was about this queen that had passed away and how she *had to be replaced* , followed by a description of the court (apparently a farewell ceremony) where the predominant colours where green and *purple* and some of the people in attendance seating on these decorated benches were life sized *jacks* , like jacks from a deck of cards. It seems that in the light sleep of my afternoon nap your words were loosely guiding the events in my dream - and that's just the part I can remember. Interesting.
Alice in wonderland!
(south San Diego?)
I looked it up: $485 in 1969 equates to $4,191 today. Very pricy!
Did enough ironing in the Canadian Army. Nope, nopity...nope. Love the 3 speed bikes. Had one that my Grandad bought me for passing Grade 2 in June, 1969.
The rain lightly beating in the background is a chefs kiss 💤 😴
WOW!! What a delightful trip back in time! 69-70 I had started high school...seeing these items and prices 50 years later is quite a RUSH! Thank you for posting this!🤗❤👍
Those TV sets would be around 4-5,000 dollars today
Seeing all this vintage tech was amazing! And your magnifying glass is magnificent!
So happy to see you posting stuff again. We missed you!!
That's really awesome. I'm 39 and can remember there being a Western Auto (and a Coast to Coast) in my little town growing up. My dad was a firearms dealer and these two stores were the local UPS drop off so I spent a lot of time in both stores.
I used to love going into the lawnmower department at Western Auto as the smell of new rubber tires was overwhelming but pleasant so when you said "I wish you could smell this magazine" I felt that 😆
Amazing video, thanks for sharing as this was a huge trip down memory lane.
The master is back with another classic
You are in so many ways the Grandaddy of ASMR. I’ve been falling asleep with you for years. And I’ve started whispering ASMR to help a not-for-profit theatre company. And you’ll see where I got the inspiration! So thank you. And finally a quote from Dylan Thomas. which may resonate with you. “Though lovers be lost, love cannot and death shall have no dominion.”
It started to thunder outside tonight, so re-watching this video seemed like the right thing to do.❤
Western Auto really had it going on!
It was great to see a catalogue from the year of my birth but now I feel really old as it looks ancient! Thanks for another great video and good luck with your new arrival 🍼😊
How fun! I remember so many of the things in the catalogue.
“Is that busy or what” 🤣🤣 I’m in my 60s and loved looking at these pictures.
i enjoy the rain so much it’s so relaxing & calming 😴 thank u again
I've been watching you for about 10 years now. You've become like an old friend I've never met! 😂 Thank you for all the snoozes!
I'm a 60 year old man and I had an AMF tricycle. It was black and white and the 6" rear and 10" front tires had thin red walls on them. My daughter is 24 and she rode the same tricycle and now my grandson rides it down his street with his dad and mom. Never restored it, we just took good care of it all these years. It could use new tires now though.
Thanks for the memories.
Somebody's been in my dad's workshop. The pocketknife and horsehair brush (dad called it a foxtail) look almost exactly like his, God rest his soul.
I remember the Western Auto catalog, too, and their store was in the next town.
Extremely relaxing video. Thank you for the time you put into this.
My pleasure 😊
I had a red tricycle , a big wheel, pink huffy bike and then a 10 speed huffy. Takes me back. My brothers had an evil kineviel bike
I iron my button down shirts almost all the time, unless they are very casual. Always make sure dress shirts are ironed as well, and dress pants too.
Remember the time you pulled an April fool’s prank on us about that stamp? To date that is still the best April fools prank I’ve heard of. So great. Not sure what reminded me of that just now. Haha
Lol, I just saw that exact video a few days ago for the first time. He really had me there!
It’s a joy when we get a new video from you!
It’d be cool to hear the haunted home story, I’d definitely listen lol
The high price of TVs explains why back then there were TV repairmen. My dad did that as a side gig when money was tight. Nowadays, people will just often junk their TVs rather than getting them repaired. It's kind of sad and wasteful, but when you look at the price of TV's today when adjusted for inflation, it almost doesn't make sense to get them repaired, assuming the cost is over several hundred dollars. That being said, it would be nice if people would repair rather than replace. So much stuff just ends up in a landfill.
This is the coziest asmr - my favorite. I have fallen asleep to this for the last 4 days at least. ❤
If only prices were the same as fifty years ago that would really be relaxing! ☺️ Thank you!
$1 in 1970 was about $7.40 So...prices were pretty high back then. The nicest, basic Television in that catalog was about $4,400 in todays money.
TVs got a LOT less expensive
@@jacket5456yeah but they didnt have massive inflation and their dollar had more buying power plus higher wages. Plus certain types of technology were a luxury that wasn't common in every home thus the prices.
This video was recommended to me, but I must say that is a interesting relic of the past! I think my grandmother has those types of books in her storage room :0
I LOVE this video! As a kid I loved looking through catalogs (especially around Christmas time, of course!). I need to watch the video during the day when I am not trying to go to sleep so I can see the whole thing. Thank you for your content!
You're welcome:)
This is so Nastalgic! Wow! I’m loving this. It reminds me of the old school commercial. Western Auto 👏 👏 We’ll be, 👏 👏 good to you!! 🎶.
Im 16 and this somehow makes me nostalgic.
Western auto really had it going on, Yes I did fall asleep, but awoke right at the end, love you’re videos, wishing you the best..
God bless, I love the rain sounds and everything in this video old things like this bring comfort.
Loved this, thank you. More technical\electrical\hifi style ones please
Congrats on being a Grandfather (I believe again) ! Best wishes to your family and your daughter!
The projector idea is great! Sounds like it would make a good video in my opinion.
I love the rain sounds so much, faint thunder is also welcome 🙏 thank you for your awesome videos
I loved this! I haven’t made it through it yet because I fall asleep but that’s a good thing!! Your videos are the best!!!
I still occasionally iron and starch my dress shirts. Especially for a job interview. And cloth napkins if having a dinner party. Both look crisp if starched and ironed.
Please make another cigar video! A tour of your humidor, or another video on anatomy of cigars, or classification/terminology of cigars
I rode a Big Wheel. Loved that thing. Had a banana seat bike too.
I’d like to hear more about that haunted house !.
Yes, please! You talked about it in a Halloween video, but I want to hear much more!
Hhh this saved me from not sleeping in the middle of the day for my overnight shift. Thank you
I had forgotten about Western Auto. We had those and their competitor Otasco in my state. I got my first guitar and bike from Otasco. Thanks for doing this video.
I'd love to hear the haunted house stories
Hello dear
How are you doing today?
If I watched for bed, would make me sleep. But Western auto really had it going on. Helped the work day tolerable. Thank you
1966 Mustang had a factory installed 8 track player and in 1969, so did the Camaro
As a young person, I don’t even expect to be able to afford a home in this country
Definitely it made me sleepy but stayed awake for the whole video. Western Auto had it going on!
Here in south Texas, we have the only and last existing Western Auto store in the country. In the world pretty much.
Oh my goodness. From the jump, the “this is a” made my eyes close for a solid 3 seconds. Instantly calmed me and made drowsy. Great video
Love the rain sounds as well
The nostalgia kept me awake, but I am very relaxed.
I would love to see you show off your nascar collection. I’m pretty sure in a older video you said you had a collection and I would love to see it, plus I think it would make a great video
43:43 happened to me too with my last car! Had a 2010 Acura TL and it too had soy coated wiring and a couple squirrels managed to get up into the engine bay and chew up over a grand in wiring.
Fascinating. I'm in UK and there are a few items I recognise. I had a Winchester 190, couldn't make out the price in your catalogue though. Also surprised to see two skateboards. They didn't really take off until the early-mid seventies here.
Also amazing how some prices haven't changed, for example washing machines and TVs.
Last time I was this early, I still had an umbilical cord.
You’ve officially won the internet for the day
I fell asleep in the middle and woke up at the end. So yes, this put me to sleep 😴
thank you again for another amazing video! Oh my goodness your voice alone is the best and then adding the rain and thunderstorm sounds, the page turning, this channel is mesmerizing
Glad you enjoyed it, Peg.
The price of the saxophone in 1969 is about $1800 today. I played alto sax in school. My dad got me a top-of-the-line Selmer Paris in 1993 and I believe it went for about $3,000. Saxophones (and other brass instruments) can get expensive.
You have the best ASMR videos, thank you!🤗🥰
The Rustic Oak couch set on page 28 looks exactly like the interior seats of my 1969 Beetle! Thank you for the video!
Just what I needed tonight. Been having trouble sleeping lately.
The average price for a three bedroom house in London is £750,000 for the suburbs to £1.5 million for central London. There are many £50 million properties in central London.
thank you for the long video! much love and appreciation
This stuff is so good 😊
I just found your channel and I love this video ! Put me to sleep so fast !❤😊
Welcome!!
Thank you for another fantastic video, I have been following you for over a decade & you have always been my favourite ASMR artist. You’re calm & warmth comes through in your voice.
Just one thing, to a European (English) - seeing guns in a mail order magazine you can just send away for seems mad!!!
I've seen you haven't posted for a month. Hoping all is well here from Duluth.
Thanks for the video, always great to see a new upload from you :)
What a neat dusting brush!
So glad to see you again! Best wishes to you and your wife 💙
It worked! As always, thank you so much for your great work.
My grandparents had those decorator weather things and I had no idea what they were!
Do you use pre-recorded audio or just always have the perfect weather for your videos? Love your concepts and the way you explain things, puts me right to sleep
I am commenting way too much on this brilliant video but "my record is six kids" really made me laugh. I had a bright yellow BMX but never jumped any ramps or over any kids with it 😂😂😂😂 But I wish I had!
Love this! I collect old magazines and publications. Takes me out of this world and back to simpler less complicated times than today. I was 13 in 1969. New sub!
Professor chillin the most! Youre back....hope all is well!
38 bucks for a 22? Take me back! My how times have changed.
The fact that, adjusted for inflation, the price of things in this catalogue would now be *eight* times more expensive is wild. Example: That guitar that's $78.88 would now cost $634.64.
Awesome! That $539 TV in 1970’s money is $4243 today. Wow!
Western Auto really had it going on.
