- Just as one lambing group ends, we prepare for yet another lambing coming in June 2023!
This week, we are sorting, evaluating and shipping ewes as we prep and plan for this upcoming year of lambing.
I also finally got a chance to sit down and look at our overall lambing results from 2022 and compared them to 2021 and 2020...
We still have some issues, but I think we are going the right way!

Great idea. Hey a vote for her name if it isn't too late. I haven't had a chance to see the video yet. But that name fits for the two reasons. She comes running as soon as Sandi comes in the barn. Like a pup would come running. I just hope when she becomes older that she won't do what one of my labs do, jumps on hind feet in the door when my hubby comes home. My girl is nuts. Loves her dad.
When Sandi said the only name she had for the lamb was Pita (pain in the a$$)!! My daughter and I just fell out laughing!😂 Thanks Sandi, we both needed a good laugh!

Sandi could have meant "PETA", a couple years ago some activists hacked her system and posted some out of context video online which was a very violating thing to do, especially for someone doing their best to keep her flick healthy and happy the way Sandi does. Just an idea, and some possible context for the lambs name.

Sandi that little lamb loves you so. She is just too cute. She knows you love her and wants your attention and touch. The flock looks good. I can't wait for the next round of babies. I can't believe Willow is old enough to become pregnant. In my eyes she is still that tiny rescued lamb in a sweater.

With the Ruth/Ruby/Ruby Sue line, I don't think there is a single soul that would begrudge an exception there! 💜 I really hope that Teddy and that 91 Tunis Lamb with the white floofs on their cheeks are going to be keepers!
I just asked if sponsorships are allowed because I want to sponsor PITA & Teddy. Even willing to purchase their longevity. Of course space is a thing. But I can totally see donating a renovation for the “golden gals” and possibly gelded “golden guys”, it’s a bonus to see those personalities be loved on.
And the last Billy with the white ears and nose. since Billy's Brother had to be put down that was a surprise. 💔
@JuOnline What a great idea! All of us in Sandi's 'Brock Flock' family would pitch in! I don't know if money is an issue, but space might be a problem. After watching Sandi's video after the storm rolled through, seeing the light around the barn door and timbers was astonishing. However, seeing the golden girls curled up together warms everything up! Thank God for making sheep with the perfect winter coats!

I swear this lambing has had some of the cutest lambs born of some of the last few lambing. Between the baby Billy's, the little red lambs and Teddy it just warms the heart.

Indeed, they help you reduce stress and make days genuinely happier. I only have quail and I have a few that are pardoned too. What's worse is they aren't even jumbo or the same coloring as the ones I decided to keep, so while they are easy to spot, they aren't the right ones to breed. So when breeding season comes around I need to separate them if I'm planning on gathering eggs to hatch, lol. But they sure are the sweetest of the bunch! I bet sheep are much harder to not fall in love with since they are outright cuddly when young and still adore scritches and affection when older.
Sandi…..I’ve been thinking about what you said about not having much new or interesting content outside of lambing. It funny, but when I watch your videos, it’s like sitting down with a friend for coffee and catching up! There doesn’t have to be drama, just interested in what up with you! Agreed. I enjoy every cycle of lambing and just general sheep and barn care. Doesn't matter to me if she has done it endlessly, there is typically something interesting every time and the lambs are so stinking cute!

Does anyone else talk to the screen while watching Sandi’s videos, or am I the only one? I love watching the little lambs running together and kicking up their heels! I talk to them like their a human baby…😂. When I see o black or brown lamb, I borrow Sandi’s line, “Who’s your daddy?” No one can be in a bad mood after watching all those sweet lambs. Thank you Sandi for such mood lifting content! ❤🐑🐏 🐑

You're not alone I get in trouble all the time my boys don't approve...the only way they like lamb is on their plates and they don't want to think about their being cute and fuzzy animals
None of us are gonna judge you for giving Ruby Sue a pass, and that little PITA of yours is such a cute little angel. Watching your videos over the years you are getting better and you have been teaching us as well as yourself as you learn things and also teaching us things that you already knew so that we would understand. The other day you said something about worrying about making things NEW and more interesting, well I don't think you need to really go out of your way, most of us are happy just watching the dramas and happy events life naturally throws your way, and just seeing a glimpse into your everyday life as a farmer. Your numbers are getting better, and yes the stillborns did go back up but like you said you did have to deal with things like Q-fever that you havent had to deal with before as well as other things that are in your flock, so all in all even if that number went up overall you are doing better. Learning and preventing what you can and knowing what you can do to mitigate worse outcomes and how to treat things has been great to see and learn along side in your videos. Keep up the good work, we appreciate how much you show us of your life farming sheep and helping out in the fields and just talking to us about what its like every time you post a new video for us to watch. Wishing you the best for this new year.

Pita! So funny! My Mom’s Himalayan cat had a litter with only one survivor. The Mama totally ignored her, we had to bottle feed and do everything for her. Pita is what we named her! So I totally get it!

I gotta say it.. love the lamb that looks like a cow! My 16 yr old daughter loves listening to the facts/ numbers. She's in FFA and that means a lot to her. I actually over heard her talking with her FFA teacher about numbers in flocks and your name came up. I think the class watched a video you did recently in their class. Brooke our daughter said the hardest part she has learned in FFA is that you can't keep them all. They were bred for a purpose. To feed families / world. Coming from a 16yr old. That is pretty amazing. She did mention that a lot of kids in her class don't like to think of it as such. She did ask a pretty good question. She said what is the longest age you breed your Ewes? 6 yrs? Maybe 7? Then asked how many lambs per Ewe is typical? By the way she plans to go into vet school.
She keeps me going. Lol! The light blue sweatshirt I orders for myself .. yeah.. it's hers already. 😆 🤣

If I remember correctly, Sandi looked up 1 ewe's lambing history & she'd had 27 lambs. Don't remember how long the interval was.
That's great that your daughter is looking to the future. Maybe she can vet animal herds, like sheep. It's good to see a young generation want to work with animals as a career. Great for her!!

Cariss is a keeper! She is an inspiration for young people. There’s not very many of the younger generation willing to work as hard as she does!!!
Does she have a farm plan? I know she works with cows too. Want her own farm.? Be a herdsman? Vet? She could do it all.
With her work ethic and good head on her shoulders it should serve her great in life! I imagine she will one day excel in whatever she ends up in. If she goes this route I'm sure Sandi will have taught her plenty to help her get a strong start and avoid mistakes.

I had a kitten that did the same thing to me after delivery. I thought she was dead. She made the softest noise and I worked on her for over an hour. Named her Sophie and call her soph soph. She’s the sweetest cat

Oh my gosh! PITA is the perfect name for that precious little pain. She has you wound around that little hoof. I can't wait to see her growing up with her own little PITAs. Some of the babies are getting unique coloring. I loved the little one with the white smudges on it's cheeks. It's funny how they all don't seem to keep the unique looks as they get older. I say this every time, but these babies are so cute.

I would just like to say I really appreciate your videos! I know other people give you grief or whatever for showing the real side of things, but I appreciate it because it's genuine and it shows me what life is really like on the farm. I haven't been a follower for too long but trust me I have binged watch all your videos!

May I ask what livestock you have and a favorite exception? I always love to hear about stuff like this.
For me I only have quail since I'm in a city. But I have some that have been pardoned cause they are very sweet and even displayed broody behavior, which for quails is harder to get them to do. But I've like 4-5 soft brown (almost honey colored) regular sized quail I keep despite the ones I raise for meat and eggs are jumbo. These girls are the ones who also felt comfy first with me hand feeding them mealworms and such. There is also a jumbo white female I've named Freckle cause she has a single brown spot below her eye like a beauty mark, lol. She is notorious for turning her head at me to give me the EYE. Just 1 eye, judging me, lol.

Something I think would be interesting to add to your data info is weaning and shipping weights for the whole year. I know your lambs have grown alot faster (or seems so) since you switched to the creep feeders instead of the troughs.
It seems more are reaching shipping weight faster than they used to.
Also, something I recently heard regarding new born lambs that lose body temp quickly, is that they haven't expelled the first poop (maconium), and that can cause them to go downhill fast. The farmer said as soon as they find a cold newborn lamb, they do a warm enema, then all the steps you do afterwards. I found that so Interesting, and have never heard you mention it. Thought I would, on the off chance that it might help save a lamb.

I'd like to hear the data about weaning and shipping for the last year and previous years as comparison as well. It has seemed like they are up from where they were previous years, or that the lambs started to reach those shipping weights faster over the years.
Sounds like she really should try that. When I was a vet tech when we ran an Iv on a sick-cold animal, I always placed the line in a bucket of hot-warm water so that it added warmth. We know that the colon is so rich with blood vessels to absorb so quickly. Possibly also absorb warmth too from a warm enema. Any extra heat is worth a try. Sounds great
I think it would be interesting to see year by year..that can show a linear progress.. I love to do spreadsheets and comparisons!! Sick hobby eh??
What’s the average weight before putting on creep and after? How much does each cedar cost per lamb, and cost for meds per year for flock? Plus, does first lamb pay for moms feed, 2nd lamb for meds and heating/electricity/labour, 3rd lamb for your salary and Carissa’s? 4th lamb etc for your retirement? Do you think of them along this thought at lambing time?

The snow actually protects the plants, like a blanket, and even if it doesn't/barely does snow, plants just recede their fluids into their stems so they can sprout again as soon an it gets warmer.:)

Stuck at home after having dental surgery. Catching up on getting my Sandi Brock and sheep fix. Some of the lambs make such funny noises. Remember be who you are and don't let people get you down. You are a great person and you take great share of your sheep.
