This is so unfortunately true. How law enforcement has the power to pick and choose who should be looked for and for whom justice should be brought about I will never understand. As a teacher, I’m not allowed to say oh that kid is def just going to end up doing nothing with their life so I’m not going to care, although there are teachers that believe this too also unfortunately. It’s bananas how people like teachers and counselors are held to such a high standards and criticized so much because they are caring for someone and law enforcement just does whatever they want

As a recovering addict with bipolar disorder, cases like this really bum me out. I know that it something happens to me, my past will be used as an excuse not to look for me. I'm 4 years clean, 11 years with no trouble with law enforcement, but if I ever go missing my past will be trotted out as evidence that I deserved whatever happened. I agree, but I also think being young and afraid of the consequences- it would also be better to let young women know they have alternatives to this behaviour. I think sex education/easy access to different forms of birth control and the knowledge on how to use them would have prevented this. It seems like she was hoping to get on the pill, but she could have avoided it with condoms and nobody would have ever known the difference.
It doesn't excuse what she's done to Gary, but I think it's good to look at what we can teach young women so they don't repeat these actions (and if they do, then we know they're really just scummy people)

As a recovering addict and former stripper/sex worker I dread thinking of what the media coverage would look like of anything had ever happened to me. I come from a wealthy family with strong community ties, a masters degree, etc and I know none of that would outweigh these blips from my past, and people/law enforcement would say I just “ran off”. It’s horrific to imagine this happening to someone you love or even yourself. People don’t just disappear. Addicts and sex workers have loved ones and people close to them who they interact with everyday and miss them dearly. As a community we have to give so much more care for the least of us. So much is put into these families and I’m happy that now there is a true crime community online that can take on some of the load

Same here. Nearly killed by drunk driver, placed on pain meds, few years later pain pills were stopped during the crackdown so I switched to heroin. I had gone “missing” a few months after my brother had ODed and it happened over Christmas and my moms bday. I took Xanax and fell asleep on the train. I talked to the EMTs and next thing I knew I got violently ill.. turns out they used narcan on me. Narcan is a miracle and can almost instantly reverse an opioid OD by ripping them out of the brain receptors, but they were using it on everyone regardless of if they need it or not. I got so ill they sedated me and I woke up 3 days later, with a public intoxication ticket in my purse. Well, my mom went looking for me and everyone said they didn’t have me including the hospital I was at. She didn’t believe me at first but when she figured out I wasn’t lying she was beyond angry. They ran my info, took my insurance card (gotta get themselves paid), etc and even with her as my emergency contact (and despite obviously having my info) had me as a Jane Doe.
I even at one point went with a guy because he said his cousin had “samples” of heroin. But he was going the opposite direction of where they are sold. Eventually I got uneasy and left, saying I didn’t want his samples. Turns out that same guy had raped and sliced a girls throat open and had done it again the night before but she lived. He ended up getting one more girl before they caught him. And I felt nothing, just numb. But even today, if you have a past the cops write you off and consider you disposable. Doesn’t matter if what happened was years ago , to them you are “just another junkie”.

Wow! Know there are people out there that do not judge you! No one deserves to be dismissed. Addiction is a disease, one that thus far I personally have not had to recover from fortunately, but pain medication is formulated to basically “rewire” your brain and make your body basically think it requires it. Also people have horrible experiences that are causing them tremendous mental or physical pain, as well as many other motivations for making these decisions. We always need to make sure every voice is heard and not judge, because we are all a few unfortunate series of events from having a catalyst to form an addiction.

@@sparkleweasel2096 Thank you for being compassionate and empathetic towards those suffering from addiction.
Yes, people think that when someone is using opioids that it’s because they want to “get high”, when in actuality, we use them to “get well” and need them to function. When you start taking them you’r tolerance goes up and you need more to feel. When you take them you are flooding the brain with serotonin.. so your brain realizes there is way more than necessary and stops producing it naturally. So now if you don’t take anything you will be violently ill. But the worst part is that since there are no natural painkillers in your brain, a paper cut can feel like an amputation. It takes a good while til it “reboots “.

If she was/is in the WITSAC program they make it just like you are dead. You just vanish. I'm sure a lot of ppl say she wldnt go into it without her daughter maybe she didn't want to disrupt her daughters life again and put her thru a lot. I don't know where you live but usually the state highway patrol or local police have a database that is updated, I look at it regularly just in case as I work in a convenience store and see lots of people. You should too if you're interested in this stuff. There's only one missing child in my city they never found, Scott Kleeschulte in 1988, he must've been snatched, and there's a handful of missing adults. Sometimes they don't know they're on a list. I remember my best friend growing up would run away a lot as a teenager; the cops would regularly catch him after seeing him leaving a friend's house. And his sister got addicted to coke and "disappeared" after dating an older man, stealing all her older brother's video games, they filed a missing person's report on her even though she was 18, but she came back. Never compensated me for stealing my copy of Pikmin, though...

I agree that an assumption of suicide without any evidence or witness testimony, happens far too often. I suspect is used to alleviate the investigating officer's caseload whether it is full or not. I think it is used to justify the reason for showing no effort towards an attempt to locate the missing person. And, I believe you are right. I would think that those who intentionally go missing are eventually discovered due to some type of trail. Such as through an arrest record, their fingerprints, or possibly DNA. Maybe the use of their social security number for work or to apply for benefits. An image of them could even be found on-line or on social media. Whereas those who go missing involuntarily, all potential trails simply end and everything goes quiet. That silence must feel like a neverending nightmare for their family and friends.

The Las Vegas police department is historically one of the worst, crime ridden, incompetent police departments in the country.
For the many of us that know this, and are aware if the statistics that PROVE it being the truth, that's ALL the more reason so many were absolutely disgusted with that same department, standing up and receiving award after award after award, add nauseam, after they were praised for their outstanding "police work" back when the mass shooting occurred down into the concert crowd. They miserably failed that night as well, but bogus award after award was granted to every single cop there, probably even an award to the custodian of the police dept. building, for showing extreme bravery while cleaning their toilets. (okay, that last part was sarcasm...😉)
But seriously, ANYONE who's done any research on the Las Vegas PD knows damn well, the only thing they excel at is making mistakes and accepting illegal deals under the table.
As far as doing their job? It's a historical FACT in that department, they have been long known for NEVER doing their job. The public in Vegas know it, the Mayor of Vegas knows it, and LVPD knows it. AND, they don't even care who knows it!!! They are so smug, and so protected by the corrupt court system, they have NO fear of public criticism, public complaints, or even public protests against them.
Not to beat a dead horse, but this blanket protection provided to cops and police departments by the courts, basically allowing them to operate "above the law" without even a concern, is the number 1 widespread problem today within our criminal justice system. Many naive people don't know this, and worse,, even if you tell them they don't believe you, because they believe law enforcement has the publics concerns as number 1 priority.
But when you dig into this problem all over the country, you'll quickly learn just how absolutely ROTTEN to the core so many police departments are.
The entire system and structure needs to be cleaned out, and redone. Laws need to be written, holding law enforcement workers criminally responsible for their actions. NOT just losing their job, when they're caught breaking the law!!
Anyhow, didn't want to get on a tangent, but it's infuriating to say the least.
But to the main point, Las Vegas PD is known, and has been known for many years, to be one of the worst police departments in the country.
Criminal activity, and well known for just ignoring their responsibility and the oath they took to protect the public.
Sadly, the public is the VERY LAST concern of LVPD.

Why a mother is not allowed to get answers about her daughter from the police? Next of kin is a person’s closest living blood relative, so obviously a husband is not “blood relative” of his wife but her mother is. Police shouldn’t wait for a grandchild to grow up before they can give information to a mother of a missing daughter. The law must change because most likely parents care more for their children than a spouse.

Ashley was safe living a stable life several states away with her grandma and that last phone call sounded like a goodbye like Camille knew she would be leaving and wouldn't be speaking to her daughter again. Either she successfully went into WITSEC and the police didn't investigate because they knew that or her cover was blown before she could leave and she was killed and someone in the police was involved and deliberately botched her case.

No one is going to miss them", wants to say "well you're just an asshole, so no one should miss you if you go missing either." But the other part of me knows they're just uneducated. A lot of the times sex workers and addicts are hurting more than anyone could ever understand which is why they wound up the position they are in. A lot of sex workers take drugs to ease the pain of the sex work because it is not an easy job. Another thing that really frustrates and upsets me is that the police can often use sex workers to answer questions for crimes committed around town but if they go missing they don't care that they're gone. So they have no problem using them, just like everybody else and yet they don't matter?

I was a convicted felon addict at one point in my life & did so much dumb s... but if anything would've happened to me (Thank GOD nothing ever did) my children, grandchildren, & family would've deserved to have gotten answers. So to all people with those dumb a.. ignorant comments MISS ME WITH THAT S...

thank you for sharing this story Danelle. It's curious, but perhaps not too surprising with the lawless place Las Vegas was at that time (and perhaps still is for all I know) - But Las Vegas businessman and Character "Buffalo Jim Barrier" who had a repair shop next to the Crazy Horse Club where Camille would have worked around the same time, was found dead in a motel room under suspicious circumstances. (the reboot of "Unsolved Mysteries" did an episode about this Season 3, Episode 4 is devoted to Barrier's story) - he was in a turf battle as his repair shop actually shared a wall and parking lot with the Crazy Horse Club. And Barrier was openly outspoken about his disdain for sharing real estate with the Den of Iniquity. I don't know if Barrier and Camille knew each other, but if they were there at the same time , it is extremely likely that they did. Barrier's family is also trying to find justice for Jim, as he was found in a compromising situation and thought to have overdosed on Valium, but people who knew him insisted that he had been clean for years or had otherwise never used drugs...

Thank you for taking a minute to remind people that everyone matters. Regardless of what they are going through. I always try to remember the saying about walking a mile in another persons shoes. I have a sister whom I love dearly, but she is one of the ones that people would write off, even releatives. So again, just Thank You so much.

If they put her in witness protection there's a good chance that no one will ever find her again she won't be able to contact anyone including her daughter if she's in witness protection

We asked police about this and they said she definitely isn’t in WP unfortunately. If she’s alive under another identity (very small possibility), it would be by her own choice, not with any of their help. They said they would have let her family know if she was in WP.

Sex work is only a job because people pay for it if people didn’t pay for it it wouldn’t be a job so why hate the people making the money?

Hateful and privileged individuals judging murder victims for their mistakes, while simultaneously making the mistake of exposing their own inner rottenness to the world, is such sweet irony.

Thank you for covering this case. Saying that trafficking is a huge problem is an understatement. I truly hope that Ashley finds her mom. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have my mom and she was missing. Heartbreaking.

How many Jane Doe's were there during the 10 years the PD wasn't investigating her case? I would hope the PD at least checked into those

    TL:DR
Care more, be kinder and Danelle is awesome....
    I'm so looooooong-winded, I won't be offended if you all don't read it all......except Danelle hehe 🤞😉😋🤞
I've said this before & I'll say it again.
Everyone deserves respect & for someone to care (apart from family) that they are missing / have died in nefarious circumstances / etc...
Regardless of background, addiction, skincolour, ethnicity or anything else that makes someone "different" from you - some people need to realise something..........
Even though they were inside these lifestyles - they are STILL mothers / fathers, sisters / brothers, aunts / uncles, daughters / sons, grandparents / grandchild, husbands / wifes / soulmates, etc.
It breaks my heart to think that these people are considered "less than human" by certain factions of society....
Ok, so, say it with me now - THESE PEOPLE ARE ALL HUMAN BEINGS AND DESERVE RESPECT!!
That means in life and in death.
I certainly don't wish this upon anyone but how would these negative people feel if it was their family members?
They would ABSOLUTELY be hoping that someone would care enough to investigate, that someone would care enough to cover it, that someone would care enough to just simply care etc.....
Anyway that is my soap box rant over......
And despite all that dark - as always, great video Danelle.
Thank you for your research, your care and attention when there are many (not all, but many) that would not care at all....
(I know the majority of the TC community do care, which is why I said many and not all 😉)......
Sending love and appreciation to all from,
    AJ over in AUS 💙💙🕵‍♀🔍🇦🇺🇦🇺
