The joys of home ownership. My last house in the UK dated from 1715 and my current home in France is at least 200 years old so you can imagine the upkeep and unexpected bills 🙄 Still, It’s worth it to own your own home and not pay someone else’s mortgage. Your home is looking really nice now and it’s nearly finished so just have fun living there and keep sharing it with us.

@@TaylorandJeff Our current is a mess of eras but just like you our roof turns out to be unsupported halfway through - unfortunately it's from the part of the house from 1645... guess dodgy home renovations are nothing new
Back when I thought I was straight and married, we went through the same sort of things with the house we bought. Five layers of shingles on the roof, no driveway, knob and tube wiring on a low amp service, among other things. Don't feel lonely, screwed or anything like that. In a few years, you'll have some great stories to tell , relating to the house. When everything is done you will have a beautiful place. BTW, in the not too distant future, I'll be able to redo my kitchen, and I will have an oven like yours
A lot of us Gays go thru that stage. Now it's becoming easier to be our true selves and accepting ourselves as we are. Kudos to you for becoming the man you were meant to be.
The gardener is the best looking thing in the garden. If you both gardened together, it would be the most beautiful garden for hundreds of miles around! Your doing a great job. Your home will be the jewel of the neighborhood!

Good luck with the "Endless Summer" Hydrangea. We had them and they never bloomed! The landscape store told me they nicknamed them "Endless BUMMER" because so many people complained, they don't bloom!
I really enjoyed this video, the hydrangeas made quite a difference in the landscaping, and I really like the hedges for added privacy. I'm not a pool person but I was curious as to why it is not surrounded by concrete as most pools are for patio furniture and a place for guests to lounge I've never seen one just surrounded by grass. That was more of a major remodeling job than just a fixer upper, a fixer upper the house would have remained much as it was just updated and the necessary repairs made. More construction videos please.
The house looks awesome. And yes, it takes a lot to get it to where you want it. Deep breathes, and hopefully nothing else major....a beautiful yard, nice size and going to look perfect and comfy for you to enjoy...private. Thanks for sharing the build to your future.

you’re doing great I know it’s stressful buying your first home renovation, getting married, the bills etc. just take a big breath and at the end of the day you’re going to enjoy what you’ve accomplished.
So far everything you’ve done is so beautiful I love the blues in the kitchen and the front door one of my favorite colors.
The backyard looks great,
it will all come together soon so you can enjoy the summer. Hopefully years from now you’re going to realize what a great investment it was for both of you when you bought this home, renovated and made it yours.

You are right, that is "home ownership"! Always something. Your video is so timely! I have to replace my soffits and also thinking of installing new windows. You gave me the push to start getting it done. Had a new fence put in the back for privacy and that was a nightmare - still not finished to the way I want. Good luck and have fun, guys!!

When you own a house, there is never an end to things to do, but your property is looking really handsome. And golly you have a handsome gardener. He does great work with those hydrangeas (or however you spell it).

In a home remodel folks hemorrhage money (rich or poor) and once it’s done the hemorrhaging will stop until something breaks. It has nothing to do with their financial status which is none of my business and it shouldn’t be any of your business.
Jealousy won’t get you anywhere.

I know it’s a lot, especially when unexpected situations arise, which means more expense, but I have to say everything is looking beautiful and it will all be worth it when it is finished! Hang in there guys. Homes are never perfect and always full of projects and unwelcome surprises. I built from the ground up and everything that could go wrong did go wrong. I had more problems than a math book! I'm convinced that's what caused my hair loss. ;) It will be worth it. You guys have made some great choices.

Guys, I know that his seems never-ending. I have been there. However, you are just catching the house at the time that these things need to happen. Putting a new roof on an old (ONE) layer of roofing is common practice and legal in most states. You won't have to fool with the soffit, fascia, or roof for many years. It's beautiful. As an aside, I know you have your hands full, but please consider doing a series occasionally about Jeff cooking. Love your channel, and social media. Hang in there. PS I have your Breville Barrista espresso maker, also...love it!

My mom had a similar situation with her roof a few years ago.....very small and simple home and roof style....original estimate was about 5k and after all said and done it was more like 12k....all new roof structure had to be added and decking along with fascia and guttering and of course new shingles...😩

Hope you wired the soffits for lighting or security cameras or speakers or whatever BEFORE enclosing them! Even though you may not have those things in now, the wiring would be there to add them after if you wish.
