But if a scanner is just another input device, how do we "write" the code we scanned in? I want to know how I can use a barcode scanner to track the members attendance aboard our Headquarters Ship the John Sebastian. Security is a problem these days.What I have in mind is each member has a card with a barcode that will check them in and out.I am sure that this would be of interest to many these days. Thank you Bob. I'm glad you are enjoying my videos. You could certainly print barcodes on some stickers or registration sheets that the members would have to carry around. Then use a scanner to scan the barcode into a database to track their check-in and check-out. It would be faster than asking them for all this info.
Question, how do you add information to in the barcode that when being scanned by a scanner it will pop up on the system telling you what the product or products is ?
You would want to program it to do that. Each code would need to be associated with the item in a table, then when the code is scanned it would trigger a function to find the item in the table.

You would need some 3rd party utility to generate the QR code. I don't believe there are any "fonts" for it. Then you should be able to generate the QR code as an image and then imbed it with a report. goqr.me/
Steve your video was very helpful. I am however experiencing a small issue with adding barcodes to my Access Form. Once I've added and it produces the code correctly and I exit the database and come back in later, upon opening the form again, the barcode is not showing in form 3 of 9 Extended, although the font on the form field correctly reflects this font type. Once I've gone to the design tab and re-selected the font type 3of9 extended once again, it works fine. I save the form again. Thoughts on how to 'keep' the font type saved properly?
Works perfectly, except something is overriding the sort order of my data source query, causing the report to sort in the order of the joined first&last name label field.

I have a series dedicated to teaching you how to figure out all of this on your own. I don't know that doing a video on something that specific would really help everyone. But I'm willing to be convinced otherwise by people.
It's very simple. Think of the barcode scanner as a keyboard. When you scan a barcode it will input whatever characters that are in the barcode to wherever your cursor is on your screen.

Hi Steve, Have you got a tutorial on how to scan a series of barcodes over a time range during the day and then link the scanner to the Access database to download the info into Access namely: DateTime of entry and the BarCode number so as to track the info etc. If you have something like this it would be very useful. Yeah, I haven't written any add-ins, but I do write some C# libraries to do certain tasks like an encryption system or data access library that uses entity framework and returns objects. That can come in handy sometimes.
ok..does writing "COM Add-Ins, Access Add-In OR add ins " require any special programme language knowledge or we can do this in VBA because I'v seen somewhere people use " Dot net" to create this "Add-in"

I've never heard of a tab after scan. Do you mean after you enter in a value you need to hit tab on the keyboard to move to the next line? That's a common practice that can't be subverted with a barcode.
Hello Steve Thanks a lot about all these videos, I need help from you I have a program about stations and i need to create a search on it like ( station name, installation Date, province ) and i need to using checkbox in my search to select TypeOfStation (i have 2 stations) but I'm not so good in VB code about this I mean, A- i need 2 checkbox to name of station 1.Combul 2.Sutron. (only) and i select one of them or two or no one, and i search it. B- i need to search about (province) and all provinces have more than one station (like : LA have 5 station "2 Combul and 3 Sutron, and CA have 3 stations "Sutron" ).

I'm a .NET developer, though I do know PHP. I studied PHP a little bit when trying to chose which direction to go with my career. I don't think I'm qualified enough though and it would take a lot of time out of my day to study. If I get done with all of the .NET courses I want to do, then maybe, but there's so much .NET stuff to cover and it's always changing.

The scanner acts like a keyboard. It will type whatever characters the barcode are where your cursor is on the screen.
