The dynamic of the Saurfangs and the Wrynns is one of the best things to come from the lore of Warcraft. It shows that perhaps, if all orcs held the honor of Saurfang, and all humans held the honor of Varian and Anduin Wrynn, perhaps both species could truly live in peace together.
Anduin enters Orgrimmar while helping carry Saurfang: The Valley of Honor is under attack! The Valley of Honor is under attack! The Valley of Honor is under attack! The Valley of Honor is under attack! The Valley of Honor is under attack! The Valley of Honor is under attack! The Valley of Honor is under attack!

Saurfang: "You just keep failing!" Sylvanas: "The Horde is NOTHING!" Forsaken flag bearer: "Bruh." Sylvanas: "Whoops, I just failed again, time to 1-shot this guy and Mary Poppins on out of here."
Seeing Anduin's face at the end is absolutely heartwrenching. You can just see his heart shattering because he had to watch Saurfang die in front of him and you can almost tell that he's blaming himself, even though Varok said that they knew where their path could lead. The emotion is intense...
This is why Anduin cant lead a war. His peaceful nature and empathy for everyone make him too weak for war. He wants peace, but, to be honest, no one in the Alliance Council does. He is likely to be thrown off the throne if he offers peace once Sylvanas is done.
@@Mediados I don't know a lot about the lore, but didn't Tyrande and Malfurion say that what they wanted is just to get rid of Sylvanas? Like, they wouldn't mind peace once she is dead?

There truly is a moment of sadness when the undead flag bearer hears her words, more so than anywhere else in the cinematic. A simple look says more than even Saurfang death does
She miscalculated. She thought the forsaken would be beholden to each other but she didnt take into account everything the horde built together the battles the forsaken fought with the other races.
Patch 8.3 Patch Notes Characters: Forsaken no longer give Honour when killed in PvP New Timewalking Raid: Siege of Orgrimmar Player Vs Player: New Battleground Added: WoW Forums
The Forsaken looking over at Sylvanas is the most moving moment in the trailer because Forsaken have always been kind of the outcasts in the Horde, never truly being accepted, nor truly desiring to be part of the fold. A lot of power captured in a single, wordless action by a Forsaken flag-bearer. Awesome.
@@gumecindos1fan Great take. I always played forsaken, and loved having her as my leader. But am glad they gave us something to move forward on as forsaken players. To finally get our moment of being Horde and not just following Sylv.
Not sure I'd call it *moving* per-se but more of a look of revelation, because she essentially proved that in her eyes she was already superior to them all. Going far enough to call them a bunch of metal bearing pawns. The act of those forsaken flag bearers stomping the ground is akin to a ritual of either a memorial or an initiation to newly engage in war. For example in the first BFA cinematic you hear horns as the typical way of announcing battle (also usually practiced by Taurens if you go far back to the first WoW trailer actually, they use it alot lol). It just happens to be that they have banners, not horns or instruments that can produce sound organically is all. But, here's a small detail many might have overlooked. Remember when she called them all simply (I'm paraphrasing here again) metal wielding pawns? Well, it happens to be ironic that the scene ends with the clattering of metal as its banners being hammered into the ground, growing deeper in treble & bass as the scene comes to a close, which signifies (from a narrative point of view) a sense of greater overall passion being exercised.
The thing that I don't get is why the forsaken thought that it applied to her. As a forsaken player since vanilla I always thought there was an understanding that the forsaken didn't like the horde and wasn't really loyal to them above their own interests. What sylv said, although an outburst, was completely in character and in line with the forsaken imo.
"Many lives will be lost..." "Or perhaps just one." He knows he can't win this duel, he knows he is going to die, but he does it anyways to show not only the warriors behind him but also those in front of him what it means to be Horde. What honor means. What it means to be true to ones nature. He may have died, but he revealed Sylvanas for what she is, and made her lose her temper. Now everyone can see. That is what it means to sacrifice for something greater than yourself. Goodbye, Saurfang, you were one of the best.
Dude dont cry please, i can alrdy see the tears. And you are so wrong. Saurfang WAS one of the best before he went into traitor mode. Honor in the horde means obeying your Warchief. It doesnt matter what your warchief asks, you obey. That is their code of honor since Draenor. 1st he betrayed Garrosh. It doesnt matter if Garrosh went full Old god in the end, he still betrayed and rebelled against him and his brothers. Now he disobeyed Sylvanas. During the battle in darkshore she ordered him to execute Malfurion. It doesnt matter if it was honorable or not, his Warchief commanded it and he should have done it. If he actually did Sylvanas would simply invade Darnassus and conquer it because that was her initial plan or well at least the one she marched the horde for. We all know now that she wanted to burn the tree for the Jailer but back then she marched against Darnassus to conquer the only major dock the alliance had in Kalimdor so she can have all the azerite for the Horde. So long story short if Saurfang killed Malfurion Sylvanas would have no obvious reason to burn the tree, she would simply invade and conquer w/o commiting genocide, so your precious Saurfang is responsible for the burning of Teldrassil. Food for thought.
@@graddeos 1. Nice assumptions captain self sure. 2. I've actually defended the burning of Teldrassil many times. It was to put an end to one of their greatets enemies. I am well aware that war is ugly, and results are what matters. That's very different from wanting to kill untold numbers for an otherworldly entity. 3. The way you describe what honor means in the Horde sounds more like the line of the Horde that tried to conquer Azeroth. "Following orders no matter what" was exactly what got them into trouble to begin with. That's not what Thrall asked of anyone. The new Hode was what it was because it was crystal clear that change was needed. And change can happen again.
@@Luxai Theres no new and old horde dude, thats what your not getting. The horde is one. The savage army that came into Azeroth courting War with every other race. The fact that Thrall managed to establish the horde into a homeland changes nothing. As long as there is a Warchief leading it, it means they are at War. If theres no war then theres no need for a Warchief (like end of BFA). But since there is a Warchief, his/hers commands should be followed. And lets be real Sylvanas never gave Saurfang a very controversial order. She ordered him to kill Malfurion so taht their invasion of Darnassus would be easier. She didnt ask him to commit genocide or fire the catapults. His failure of actually killing Malfurion forced Sylvanas to actually halt the invasion and just burn them instead to avoid losing too many troops. You can say that Sylvanas intended to do that all along so that Jailer could get the souls and i would agree, but if Malfurion was dead she wouldnt hesitate with invading cus her losses would be way fewer. Dont forger that we only know part of the story so far. Sylvanas for all her atrocities is still working towards saving Azeroth and herself from the ultimate evil. Working with the Jailer is just a means to an end for her. She doesnt really seek world domination. She just wants to live, and she will do w/e it takes to achieve that. If u did the loyalist part of the questline, she tells you at the end that you will meet again, and when that happens you will understand all of her motives. So i guess blizzard has some redemption arc in store for her. We just have to hope they dont make it super cheesy and lame.
@@graddeos Lmao tell yourself that. Willfully ignore the entite Warcraft storyline of them actively trying to move away from the ideals that lead to the wars. As for Sylvanas, I gave her the benefit of the doubt but there's no excusing her anymore.
@@Luxai The Horde never tried to move away from the ideals that lead to wars. Thrall did but he left the Horde to become the aspect of Earth and gave the horde to a maniac tyrant that restarted a war that Thrall managed to stop. The Horde's ideal was to always follow the warchiefs command. Whether that is war , peace or farming sunflowers on a rainy day is irrelevant to them.
Wrath was the first time I played as Horde and got to meet Saurfang. I remember him telling Garrosh about the screams of draenei children being slaughtered tormented him still (from the orcs being slaves to the burning legion), and why no one should go looking for war like Garrosh did. I remember feeling so bad for him in ICC, having to kill his son reanimated as a death knight. Saurfang felt like he failed his wife in keeping his son safe. Watching the old soldier cinematics you really could tell that Saurfang felt like he had failed again. He had lost his family, his honor at teldrassil, and now he had felt like he was losing the Horde. In the end, I had hoped that Saurfang would become warchief and lead the Horde. But he made Thrall and everyone else realize something more important-- that Warchiefs are for times of war. It is time for Azeroth to finally have peace. Before his sacrifice, Saurfang was among friends and brothers in arms. And he knew that in challenging Sylvanas to Mak'gora, he had regained his honor. They all watched as he fought. Mortally wounded, Saurfang smirked at Sylvanas' betrayal. As he called out, "For Azeroth!" while charging into battle one final time, he knew that, finally, he had also reclaimed his Horde. Rest in peace Old Soldier. You more than earned it.

Visually the movie was of the same quality. Like if you look at everything that wasn't humans it looked just about as good as their cinematics at the time. The problem is that it's a lot harder to make a 2 hour long narrative story good than it is to make an important 5 minute scene good.

Even if their cinematics are absolutely wonderful, the cinematics lack in good storytelling imo. Which is more the authors and directors fault than the animators, I know. Even though she has magic I can hardly imagine it strengthens your muscles that much and ignores all laws of physics. I didn't like that part.
@@Perial51 You didn't pay much attention to the cinematic if you think it lacks in good storytelling. As for the power that her "magic" gives her, it has never been said how powerful she actually is or how strong her physical form is so we can't really get to the bottom of if she could or couldn't do it, in the cinematic she can so that speaks for itself. As for the laws of physics part, it's a fantasy world so laws of physics don't mean much and again, it's a fantasy world so it doesn't have to make scientific sense.

in Mak'Gora you can use only one weapon and magic is allowed, but counts as weapon ... Saurfang used 1 axe and 1 sword (2 weapons), she used set of daggers (1 weapon) and magic (2nd weapon) .... he cheated first .... + dont talk about cheating when Green pickle, the biggest cheater in Mak'Gora is standing there...
-A set of daggers is two weapons lol, it’s daggers, not singular dagger -magic isn’t allowed at all regardless of “weapon counts”, it’s a purely physical fight, hence when Guldan used his sorcery to win Mak’Gora over Durotan, he was called a cheater. In addition, Thrall used his elemental prowess to beat Garrosh, and later mentions that the elements have never responded to him the same way. He lost his honor by cheating, and the elements didn’t like that TLDR: Sylvanas had two weapons because a dagger counts as a singular weapon and she had two, and magic is not allowed at all because Mak’Gora is a purely physical fight.
Toxic911 Animations “...there has never been any rule forbidding the use of magic and spells. Moreover, there is a precedent for the use of magic in mak'gora, as both Shagara and Ashra made extensive use of it during their mak'gora.

The Forsaken looking over at Sylvanas is the most moving moment in the trailer because Forsaken have always been kind of the outcasts in the Horde, never truly being accepted, nor truly desiring to be part of the fold. A lot of power captured in a single, wordless action by a Forsaken flag-bearer. Awesome.
Id say that it was at that moment that the Forsaken Truly joined The Horde.
I guess you look too deep into it
Very similar to Durotan exposing Gul’dan in the movie. At least he has earned his honorable death, and finally returned to his home.
But the Durotan fight was less cringe.
At least the movie's villain Guldan was rational and you could understand the reasons behind his actions
@@Newovar exactly my point

"Many lives will be lost..."
"Or perhaps just one."
He knows he can't win this duel, he knows he is going to die, but he does it anyways to show not only the warriors behind him but also those in front of him what it means to be Horde.
@@graddeos
Sylvanas: dont worry guys, i have a plan.
"Slyvanas has left the game"

If only it was true...
"Let it be finished"
The same last words as from his son against Arthas
That is so true
But his last words were for azeroth ..

Warcraft: Here's a brand new cinematic featuring the death of a famous lore character and the betrayal of another lore character
Twitter: hehe tink tink flag boy
Thats because they killed off a really good character in favor of showing that Sylvanas is the bad guy even though everyone knew it from the beginning since you don't start an xpac by burning down a capital with innocents in it and still be "the good guy". Sylvanas sucks as a character.
@@emeralddreams3319 i agree. Sylvanas was a good character once.. Blizzard just needed a bad guy
@@emeralddreams3319 I think Sylvanas is a great character with questionable framing around her. If nothing else, she's a great Shakespearean tragedy.
@@emeralddreams3319 It's funny how, in war and chaos, where those who are unwilling to do what is needed, are seen as good. And those willing to make a sacrifice, are seen as bad.
Just wanted to point out that she's basically been amassing an army that is undead. And that one threat still remains in the game that is larger than any old god. The Void. They only fear Sylvanas, noone else. Instead of looking at "Good vs Evil". Why not look at the bigger picture? And no. I don't think some video game character is "hot". I go by the lore.
@@ewu1237 you mean when she was still 'alive', because he has been going on a path of revenge after her death.

I don't get this part. Can you explain? Thanks.
@@Chemicalkinetics Voljin made Sylvanas warchief on his deathbed
@@HugoAcapella Sorry. I get this part, but I guess I don't understand why it is a big surprise that Sylvanas always has her own agenda.
Vol'jin was as useless at being a Warchief on his death as he was when alive
I've not really followed the whole thing extensively but I can't remember an actual good warchief for the Horde, well except Thrall maybe, but he then abandoned the whole thing to become a shaman or something lol.
Ummmm there is a priest & a shaman standing right there...
In the lore, ressurection is near impossible. The is no easy way outside of making the given person an undead or tainting him with fel.

Really small detail I haven't seen mentioned by anyone, that I loved. When Saurfang charges he says "Let it be finished!".... just like his son, when his son charged Arthas. Such a small detail (and Varok wasn't even present) but it just shows how close he and his son were.

Sarufang is a genius. He is saying the right words, to keep the hope in the Horde, and in the same time, lowering Sylvanas's reputation - and he knew, that he would die for this in one minute. Biggest hero of the horde ever.
For Saurfang!

This animation quality is superb. So much life in the eyes of the characters.
I just noticed the tiny fine hairs on Sylvanas' upper lip. Insane.
Too bad Sylvanas' character design is so shite.
Anduin’s face and emotional animations are a bit off imo, (makes since the cinematic resources are obv going to lead roles) especially when he walks up and says “I set you on this path” just before he speaks his face goes derp for a few frames 😂
I can’t unsee it lol
Just like I can’t unsee that C’Thun does not sit centre in his room. He is off to the side. And now you can’t unsee it either.

Saurfang: So when we do Mak’Gora, it’s just physical fighting and no magic or that’s cheating, right?
Thrall and Durotan: Well yes, but actually no
in Mak'Gora you can use only one weapon and magic is allowed, but counts as weapon ... Saurfang used 1 axe and 1 sword (2 weapons), she used set of daggers (1 weapon) and magic (2nd weapon) .... he cheated first .... + dont talk about cheating when Green pickle, the biggest cheater in Mak'Gora is standing there...
-A set of daggers is two weapons lol, it’s daggers, not singular dagger
-magic isn’t allowed at all regardless of “weapon counts”, it’s a purely physical fight, hence when Guldan used his sorcery to win Mak’Gora over Durotan, he was called a cheater. In addition, Thrall used his elemental prowess to beat Garrosh, and later mentions that the elements have never responded to him the same way. He lost his honor by cheating, and the elements didn’t like that
TLDR: Sylvanas had two weapons because a dagger counts as a singular weapon and she had two, and magic is not allowed at all because Mak’Gora is a purely physical fight.
Toxic911 Animations “...there has never been any rule forbidding the use of magic and spells. Moreover, there is a precedent for the use of magic in mak'gora, as both Shagara and Ashra made extensive use of it during their mak'gora. Thrall had also already used magic in the first mak'gora between him and Garrosh, by throwing lightning bolts.”
