Guys the phones are optimized around 8gb of ram. The extra ram literally sits there and just pike a conp extra ram that sits can actually slow things down not speed things up. At the moment the 12gb is having more issues with freezing or locking then the 8gb believe it or not at the moment. Still rare on either device tbh. Its also why on geekbench the 8gb scored higher 200 extra on multi core because again to much ram sitting not being used actually slows thinga down! Dont buy the 12gb just for the extra storage of 512 unless you really reallt meed the extra space. Please dont listen to the sales pitch or anybody on youtube telling you to get something else just for the sake of it. Most dont understand optimization or how ram works and why the extra will never ever do anything for you on these phones. You wont find one thing that it does better with the extra again it can actually hinder its performance. Which is why most are starting to nor even offer 12gb because it doesnt add value. See the thing samsung and others dont tell you is the 12gb is actually a slightly slower speed of ram while the 8gb is faster which is also why you wont see the difference and if anything get lower scores from the 12gb. I mean come on they offer an extra 4gb of ram they arent going to give you faster ram while they are at it for only 150 more lol.
Didn't notice a big difference... specific if you think about the price and that you didn't touch the screens at the same time (that would almost be impossible)...that o.2 millisecond of lag could have been from your touch input in many cases.
I went for the 8GB, it arrived today at my parents. Need to collect it. Couldn't justify the extra cash for 4gb more of Ram that I assumed wouldn't be noticeable, yeah the extra storage is good but I used cloud storage anyways so it's become less important for me to have loads of built in storage.
I just ordered the s23 ultra also. I went for the 256gb, thinking storage is the only difference. Now Iam bummed it has only 8gb. Iam not sure if 8gb is enough in the long run. It should have great performance, but iam not sure.

Well, I would get bunch of apps closed and yes, for basic use 8GB is fine, but when you start using more apps in the background you notice the difference. So, I returned the 8GB version for the 12GB and boy, there is a difference. Also, for the fan boys, ram plus is not actual memory, it is just Linux virtual cache, which runs at the storage speed. It had 12gb of much slower ram lol. It's why the ram tests still won on the s23 ultra. It was optimized around 8gb. Getting 12 does nothing on the s23 as he even showed. If anything it slowed somw things down even the benchmark. Bevause this phone was optimized with super fast 8gb. The 12gb variant is actually slightly slower on its speed I mean did you really expect them to give you 12gb of faster ram and more storage on top of it for only 150 more? For phones the speed of the ram is what matters most. I've never ever seen a full 8gb of ram ever used. So you have 4gb sitting there doing nothing and at a slightly slower speed. It's just slowing things down a little bit. But luckily not enough to really cause any issue in real world performance. It's why both perform almost identically. But again you will actually find the igb version edging things out. You can't make up that there is a noticeable difference when everyone comparing each is showing the opposite of what you are saying. And again the s22 ultra also had a slower 12gb ram then the s23 8gb faster ram. Same thing goes with computers.

Hey Mate Thank you so much for making this video. Had the exact same quandary around which one to buy. In your usage have you had a definite answer to which is better ?
The 12 GB version will be better if you will be gaming (plan to install a lot of games) but overall 8gb will get the job done too.. I have the Lavander S23 that it's in this video. Almost 1 month of usage. So far so good
I've been using the Samsung S23 Ultra with 8GB of RAM for a few months now and when I have several applications open the phone gets hot and slow, causing the battery to wear out. Have I have RAM Plus activated at 8GB and still the applications close when I open the camera, I'm not even a user who uses the phone to play, I only use social networks and applications and even so it heats up and slows down, making it seem like a mid-range...
@@TechthroughToni I don't know, I just wish the phone was fluid, the battery lasted longer, it didn't get hot and the applications didn't close. Yes Honestly, it is a huge headache to deal with this phone that cost me more than 1000 dollars, I don't know what solution to give it.
@@TechthroughToni It is not normal for a high-end phone to work this badly, sometimes it is fluid and other times slow, it frustrates me a little and sometimes I would like to return it but I can't. I'm thinking that my problem is because of the RAM, Samsung is too heavy for them to only put 8GB in a premium range , and although the RAM is faster and better than the previous generation, the quantity does matter and the consequences are performance.I have done some research and I have also seen that the 8GB version of the S22 Ultra was slow compared to its 12GB version, the same goes for the S23 Ultra, the processor is good but the amount of RAM limits it making the phone not able to use all its functions so it works better, it's just my hypothesis, since,I have had other Xiaomi phones where I have never experienced these problems... I have formatted the device and I still have the problem that applications like TH-cam, tiktok or others close drastically when I open the camera to record or take a photo, When I have many applications open, the phone heats up and becomes slow, but low-end type slow, it seems like I am using MediaTek, I don't feel like the processor is using all of its power. If some words are not understood, it is because I am using a translator.
im considering the s23+ as my next phone for atleast the next 4-5 years, will 8gb ram be enough for me with moderate use? lots of picture taking, the occasial heavy games, with my daily social media apps running in the background? all still being smooth and fast?
I did it but it happens anyway, I even activated the RAM Plus. I just want to know if that problem happens in that version or is it just a software bug?@@TechthroughToni

Well yes and no , because if you have a flagship phone like the s23 ultra the 4gb of extra ram doesn’t really matter… in bidget devices ram matters more..
At one point 128GB meant lot of space nowadays people need 512GB like seriously why do we need a hard drive in our phone. We are defeating the basic meaning of a phone.
I feel like the majority of people commenting don't understand what ram is.... its not for storing your photos and videos lol, it will make no difference at all to 99 percent of the samsung community. Its for gaming and running multiple things at once which not many people actually do. Even with 4gb you can still run multiple things at the same time. Wouldn't bother soending the extra money anyway, not many people will fill up the phone by the time they upgrade to the next one anyway.

I don't heavy multitask or use the double app function I never did on older phones.
Just some youtube, mails, whatsapp and spotify on the go in the car (Audi A6 from 2014 so no Apple car play or Google stuff on it yet).
I went with the 512gb 12ram just for the memory. It comes with the 512gb and 1tb. People don't realize how much 4k video and switching to the 200mp camera will eat up space
From this video it looks like the 8GB is doing somewhat better even though the 12gb should have the fast and newer memory
hello so i wish we had some load bearing activities on this. when pulling up a single website both dont need to struggle much and use much ram to do the operations in this video. however if he tried to connect these to dex i would say he would be able to see the difference then or if he pulled up multiple apps on each screen to see which hesitate or run a little better. as well as a very hard to run game. this is why i think you dont see much difference.
this is with my limited knowledge btw
damn, I just bought the s23 ultra 8gb for the same price as the 12gb
I didn't even know that the 8gb version exist, so I didn't notice that
me too :c
I'm gonna go with the 8gb as I feel like 12gb is overkill for a phone plus I currently have 4gb and its fast enough
Thanks for this Video. I have ordered the 8GB Version. Greetings from Germany🙂
Hope you enjoy it! Greetings 🙌
I love the music you picked out for this video. It was very satisfying to watch. I'm just upgraded today to a 256 but I don't know how much GBs it is. He just asked if I wanted the 256 with the tmobile special I didn't realize there was two choices in gbs.
So I just called my store to confirm and I got the 8gb.
@@kristinawiebe6652 you can check that in settings - device care. But still differences are very small
If ram memory is important to you, there is an option in settings where you can add another 8GB of Ram in your phone (virtual ram)
@Tech through Toni is that the ram plus option, If so I have does that mean I have a total of 16gb?
Can you please get me one😢
1:40 how is that possible? Im figuring out what to choose
Differences are very small, go for the 8gb version if the 256gb storage is enough for you..
Hey Mate
Thank you so much for making this video.
So far so good
Quick question, will there be an Difference in type of battery? 8gb or 12 GB better battery?

Awesome video and first of its kind I see. Bur would like to see more heavy ram rams and multitasking like Dex.
They perform the same , only difference is when you have a lot of heavy games in the background
I got a new one 8/256 because it was way cheaper. Can't wait to see it...
¿what is the difference between 8gb ram and 12gb ram?
12gb ram will handle more apps open at the same time, its slightly better
@@TechthroughToni slightly better justly
Excellent speedtest 👍
I've been using the Samsung S23 Ultra with 8GB of RAM for a few months now and when I have several applications open the phone gets hot and slow, causing the battery to wear out. Have I have RAM Plus activated at 8GB and still the applications close when I open the camera, I'm not even a user who uses the phone to play, I only use social networks and applications and even so it heats up and slows down, making it seem like a mid-range...
Overheating can be caused by bad network connectivity. Happened to me when i was on a remote location
@@TechthroughToni I don't know, I just wish the phone was fluid, the battery lasted longer, it didn't get hot and the applications didn't close. Yes Honestly, it is a huge headache to deal with this phone that cost me more than 1000 dollars, I don't know what solution to give it.
@@controlzq check in settings - device care , what does it say? Any app draining the battery? Turn on auto-optimisation and check features there..
I saw that the ram one the 256 is a 4.0 and the 512 12 ram is only a 3.2 on slot, is this why the 8gb ram looks cleaner as its actually upgraded slot
Maybe this is the reason why the 8gb version feels faster and better
im considering the s23+ as my next phone for atleast the next 4-5 years, will 8gb ram be enough for me with moderate use? lots of picture taking, the occasial heavy games, with my daily social media apps running in the background? all still being smooth and fast?
Yes
Are there any different photo and qualities according to different rams?
No
@@TechthroughToni thanks
Is there any version of the S23U with 12 GB ram?
White one is 12GB
All the S23U sold in Taiwan comes with 12GB ram, no matter is 256/512/1TB.
@Ashley W yup I got a 256gb variant from the Middle East, and it has 12gb ram too, thankfully.
You sure you didn't swap the models around? Makes no sense that the 8gb beats the 12gb
I'm sure
Optimize the phone more often in settings - device care
I did it but it happens anyway, I even activated the RAM Plus. I just want to know if that problem happens in that version or is it just a software bug?@@TechthroughToni

S22 ultra vs s23 please
We must be farsighted with technology, in 4/5 years 8gb of ram we can not know if they will be fine.
A big part of a phone performance is the CPU, if that gets better 12 gb may be fine..
More Ram is only for how apps that can run in the background..not really for the speed, right?
Well yes and no , because if you have a flagship phone like the s23 ultra the 4gb of extra ram doesn’t really matter… in bidget devices ram matters more..
More than the Ram, its the ram management that matters. My OP 6 has 6gb ram but the OS kills app in background for no reason very aggressively
I think you can control this 8n the developer settings.
@@ancientslav4863 don't think so. It's by design
At one point 128GB meant lot of space nowadays people need 512GB like seriously why do we need a hard drive in our phone. We are defeating the basic meaning of a phone.
Because it's a pocket PC and the phone is an iPhone
I feel like the majority of people commenting don't understand what ram is.... its not for storing your photos and videos lol, it will make no difference at all to 99 percent of the samsung community. Its for gaming and running multiple things at once which not many people actually do. Even with 4gb you can still run multiple things at the same time. Wouldn't bother soending the extra money anyway, not many people will fill up the phone by the time they upgrade to the next one anyway.
Lol but who Buy an Samsung For do it? Buy the red Magic pro 8 hahaahah
How is that possible that the 8gb version is faster than 12gb?
Would 8gb suffice for video editing? Like having a few apps opened? The editor, photos, idk maybe a couple of more sites in the background? Thanks!
12gb would be a safer bet, I guess...?
12gb will be safer because it will go up to 20gb ram with the Ram Plus feature..

S23 will definitely beat it, the higher clock speeds can obtain consistent higher frames

I purchased both, and yes, there is a huge difference in day to day use. The applications last longer in the version with more ram, the 8GB version tends to close applications, get stuck and heat up. In fact, I'm surprised no one talks about this and allows themselves to be scammed like that.
