Man, let me give a stab at this - Offroading is often rock crawling, mud, short trail runs, etc. Overlanding is multi-day adventures that move you to places and through places; the further you can get from "main stream" towns and be offgrid the better. Both have their place and the definition is often blurred in social media and such. Hope that helps!

Thats actually pretty impressive for everything you added to the base weight, Tacos have the industry worst actual observed mpg which is significantly worse than EPA numbers, the effects of staying with tried and true tech from the 90s. But in the middle of nowhere that reliability and easy servicing is what anybody would choose over another with better mileage and worse serviceability.
Radio: get a ham radio license and a dual band mobile rig. Most have remote heads, so you mount the radio itself under the seat and use a RAM mount to hold the control unit. As a benefit, you have a much wider range of communication options over longer distances via repeaters, or 50W VHF (instead of 40W UHF GMRS) simplex for longer range. Plus, the license is cheaper (between free and $20), and good for 10 years at a time with no fees to renew.

I realize that ARB makes an air-compressor that can mount under the hood by the engine, and customers want something like that conveniently out of the way ... but anyone who's dealt with industrial air-handling systems will tell you that heat is the #1 enemy of getting compressed air, a reliable CFM (cubic feet per minute), and most importantly reliability. Air expands as its heated, and contracts as its cooled, do you see a problem here with airing your tires with air that's just moved past a hot engine, to an air-compressor that has definitely absorbed more heat in the engine compartment than it would away from the engine? And anyone who wants to tell you that their non twin-screw compressor (like your model, probably a piston reciprocating type) lasts anywhere near as long exposed to heat as not exposed to heat is absolutely full of it.
So with everything added on to it what do you think all the accessories weigh? The Tacoma doesn’t have problems crawling around or getting over stuff with all that extra weight? Asking because I’m looking for a taco but haven’t decided yet.
278hp is not a real lack of power for a mid size. the complaints with the V6 are tuning related. you can OV tune them to customize the power band but in the video they changed the rear gearing which also makes a big difference.
Amateur radio is what you have gone with IMO Putting a Snorkle on without waterproofing everything else in the engine bay is like putting high heels on a Clydesdale, it may look pretty, but you are going to get stuck the first time you try and put it to the test.
Despite the name, a snorkel is not designed to turn your truck into a submarine. It is primarily used to intake air from higher off the ground instead of where your tires are kicking up a to of dust, so you save your air-intake filters.
So for comparison sake a 411 gears that going up to a 488 years it is a 16% increase in torque multiplication there for a 16% increase in highway RPM.. NOW .. Increasing the tire size from a 31 inch tire to say a 35 inch tires is 12-13%% decrease in highway RPM or loss of torque multiplication -because you are effectively altering the final drive ratio with the height of the tires ...therefore increasing tire height beyond a certain “comfortpoint “will always require an increase numerically bigger number to compensate for the lost torque...And in some instances possibly even increase slightly more gearing to offset for extra weight or a high torque peak engine OR a under powered vehicle.
Awesome build! First time watcher....For what it's worth, Expedition Essentials makes a really nice RAM mount compatible bracket that bolts on top of the flat section over the radio. It's a bit of a pain, but it's well worth it as it provides a way to mount 3-4 accessories, plus it has a 2 port usb power source.

Maybe garbage was a bit harsh, but seriously, disc brakes will change your life on steep hills. Can be dangerous when you have to back off a steep slick hill and the front locks up and the rear doesn't.
I watched video a Toyota engineer explain why the don’t do disks on the rear. It was all about cost primarily and reliability second. He was like “there are so many better ways to spend that money than by changing from rest drums”. It knocking disk at all but the bang for the buck just wasn’t there for the Tacoma platform.
There are lots of things done(or not done) for the sake of reducing CPU, definitely doesn't make it the best for actual use. And the bit about reliability is nonsense, if discs were the slightest bit unreliable they wouldn't be on the front(primary stopping wheels) of every passenger car made in the last 25 years. Most new Taco drivers aren't going to put their $40k truck in places where you would see the real weakness in drum brakes(and the first owner is who TNA cares about), but if you're throwing cash at a vehicle to build an offroad rig you may as well upgrade stuff that matters while you're at it( like the mechanism that stops you)

I'll bet he didn't get a Tundra cause 1, Expedition Overland is already doing one, and 2, they are yuge! Most of the MSO local trails are tight.

needs a prinsu roof rack over the cab, it would tuck neat under the camper and give you a smidge of cargo space on top ;)

Changes the amount of times the Driveshaft/ pinion gear must rotate to get 1 rotation of the wheel. 3.55:1, 4.10:1, 5.13:1, etc
