    Thank you, so easy to follow your instructions. I found a scarf and hat pattern in fisherman's rib, done by "Very Pink Knits". She is doing the hat in rounds, very nice. I like to make a set, scarf and a hat. A 10 US needle is a 6mm in metric , and a size 4 in UK terms. I found a chart that compares the different confusing sizes......yeah

    Hi I love the scarf and I am going to try making my son one. I do have a question. You say to knit the first row then proceed with the 2 row repeat, when I come to an end does the last row need to be all knit? I love the colors!

    • @PeonyandThyme
      @PeonyandThyme  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Ann! Thanks so much for watching! This is a great question! You don’t need to end with a knit row. The knit row is only for the very first row. After that, you just follow the two row pattern and then bind off when your scarf is as long as you want it to be!😄 I hope you love your scarf! 😍

    The Lion brand wool recommends a size 5.5mm knitting needle. Isn't a size 10 a much smaller needle? I thought the bigger the yarn (and this is a 10 ply) the bigger the needle. Would love to try this stitch as a scarf it really is very pretty.

    • @grandma.p
      @grandma.p 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm using size 8 and 4 ply. It looks good so far.

    • @KittenBowl1
      @KittenBowl1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Size 10 is one size larger needle size, 6mm size in metric than what that particular yarn recommended needle because 5.5m is size 9. It’s a Worsted weight yarn. So you can go anywhere between from 4.5 - 6 mm. If you’re knitting gloves or hats for example, you typically select a smaller needle size so that you can knit tighter knitted fabric. For things like shawls and scarves, you go for bigger size needle for drapes. But it’s up to you. I have a yarn that’s recommending 4-6 mm needle size. I already made a scarf using 6 mm. The fabric is too loose for my liking so this time with different color I will be using 5 mm, which is US size 8. So it’s all up to you which size needles you want to use.

I found this scarf was challenging especially if you dropped a stitch it was very difficult to fix so since then I’ve found another tutorial which knits a one-row repeat, easier to correct a mistake, has neater edges and didn’t take that long to finish. Take a look at this video before you decide to do the brioche scarf. Using this method I’ve done a few scarves and I’ve enjoyed knitting them. Good luck 😊

    I noticed that your one caption said 'switching between right and left-handed knitting', but you were still working with the same needle (the right needle), and just holding the yarn on your other hand. That's not left-handed knitting, it's continental style (easier for those who started out crocheting, usually, like me. haha).

    Very nice video. Thanks for sharing. Instead of pompom(which I am not a fan of it on scarves but I love them on hats), I am going to do tassels which I love. I made lot of scarves with rib stitch. They look awesome. I love cables too. They are easy but you want to pay attention. If you make a mistake, you gotta go back all the way! Do you do sweaters? Can you please make a video of how to make some simple patterns? I am vegan. Its hard to find good sweaters that are not made of wool! Thanks once again.

    Interesting. I learned the other way that you knit 1 and yarn over 1 for Fisherman's Rib.

      That’s not fisherman’s rib, what you’re describing is called Brioche knitting. It looks similar but totally different stitches. Brioche is considered to be a little bit more difficult so fisherman’s rib is called lazy man’s stitch sometimes. Anyways yarn over is not any part of fisherman’s rib but Brioche.
